- Every year the Kiwanis Ski Club host an international ski jumping tournament called the Continental Cup at the Pine Mountain Ski Jump. In 2022 we held our first competition on this newly built ski jump in Iron Mountain, Michigan. This is the process it takes to prepare the ski jump for this weekend event. Our hope is to share this process with volunteers planning to help in any future year, to give them an idea of what to expect or plan for..
In years past it might take us 3 weeks to totally prepare the ski jump using 3,000 gallons of water and tons of snow made on site. This new process can be done in a matter of days, rather than weeks. Once we have the tracks filled with slush, they'll begin to freeze in place. Our ski jump has the ability to keep it frozen using new technology, sort of like your refrigerator.

Dedication to getting the job done right so the best jumpers can compete. Since this is a popular international competition speaks for itself. If the skiers didn't like it they wouldn't come. 👍❄️👍🇺🇲
Great to see this- watching in MN. Lived in Kingsford in early 70's and was at the Olympic tryouts in 1968. I was 8 yrs old. Hope you find volunteers!
Looking forward to your video coverage!👍🇺🇸😀😃❗
I had no idea what it took. Kudos to the volunteers!
Every year I look forward to these videos! Thanks Jason!
Good luck, Jason...
Well that was definitely different it's almost like laying down concrete cool video thanks Jason
Definitely would need a cup of hot chocolate with a pinch of cayenne pepper in it to warm me up. Fascinating !
Looking forward to your coverage of Whealkate bluff this winter.
Big ole steaming hot cup of nope for me. Below 50 and I hibernate.
Interesting to see how it's done, but way too cold for me. Have to wonder if they prep the ski jump in Park City, Ut. the same way.
How long does the process take to get ready for the frozen night?
