Hahaha but for real.. Sinn Fein needs to think about going back to their conservative-left/nationalist-left roots - there is not enough appetite for their very progressive agenda, despite their great relative showing they have far from a majority of support
As a SF no 1 er ;), they do not. They would have done better if they hadn't been slandered left right and center all year. Plus, they did run a few dubious people last time and a couple got in. Big mistake. In their defense, nobody thought they had half a chance. It may take some time but we will see a SF government. Maybe next time.
Sinn Fein will not become the next government in Ireland, remember in Ireland has PR ,its not first past the Post voting, Sinn Fein will not form the 24th Dail .The transfers of second, third, and fourth preference votes between Fianna Fail, and Fine Gael. ..Sinn Fein are not transfer friendly and Greens will be wiped out

1:56 "...If Sinn Fein has won the popular vote again" On the basis of this admittedly early exit poll 78.9% of the electorate have not voted for Sin Fein. Narrowly winning the popular vote is really somewhat hollow, if 4 out of 5 of the voters have NOT voted for your party. And why if the FF/FG parties are winning 40% of the vote, should they not continue to ignore a party only 1 in 5 of the electorate are voting for? Otherwise congrats to anchor newsreader for excellent pronunciation of Irish political party names!
OK, but the way I read it is that Sinn fein and left leaning parties have an 8% lead. I have analysed the independents who will be elected. The vast majority of them, along with Sinn fein, are left leaning. I predict Fine Gael and Fianna fail will form the next government with labour and a few independents. However, the government won't last long. We will then finally have a Sinn fein led government and hopefully some real change.
Winning the popular vote means getting 50% or more of the total vote cast in a FPTP election. We have a PR System in Ireland so getting 21% of the first preferences is no where close to 50 % and it is meaningless When all the the seats are decided we will see what proportion Sinn Fein gets and it will be no where close to 50% because the vast majority of people in Ireland know that they talk populist nonsense.

Oh gawd, is this the start of a conspiracy?? They use pencils because they don't tear paper like a pen. They do better if the ballot gets wet. They don't run out of ink. And, nobody wants big sharpie marks all over the place. Give your head a wobble. We've been using pencils in polling booths since forever.

Sinn fein finished at the top last time out but didn't run enough candidates to secure a higher amount of seats 😢,we will end up with the same rubbish again for the next 5 year's, it is absolutely frustrating when voting in our country 😑
I voted SF and will for the forseeable, but they did run a few lemons last time. Old people in this country come from ride or die FF or FG families. They just vote mindlessly because of nothing more than tradition. I know cause I'm a fairly old person ;) and I came from one such family. If we lowered the voting age to 16 SF would win hands down. Which is why it won't happen.
@@johncahalane7327 We'll wait and see, fingers crossed in my case. So many independents this time around, anything could happen. And, personally, while SF would be my no 1. Lots of people I know gave them 2 or three. Around here lot of people giving the farmers party 1 and SF no 2. People are sick of the wasters and long time ride or die FF or FG are still miffed they got in bed with the perceived arch enemy. They may have fkd up with that move. 🤞🤞But very early days yet

First i've heard that SF had a progressive agenda - if anything, the opposite is true

Why only pencils at voting stations, one lady asked for a pen but was told no pens only pencils 🤔

This is inaccurate. Pens are completely acceptable if that is your preferred writing implement

Anyone know yet how Dublin's crime boss got on?
Sinn Féin are NOT nationalists. Arthur Griffith would be sick.
Yes but we don't know what's going to happen if they take over and get like 22 shouldn't they have a right to a form a coalition
They should have been in government the last time.
FFG again probably would be my guess.
