- The Garden is under Heatwave and Drought attack again. Bring on the bugs and well, it's getting hard to get a decent harvest. However, there is still plenty of food in the garden. Let's go get it.
That is some big ocra.
Yea, this particular strain of okra stays tender up to 8 to 10 inches long and is perfect for frying at that size. When I plan to steam it, I cut it at 3 to 4 inches long.
Fried okra this year?
You bet! Fried - steamed - and sauteed with tomatoes - Okra is delicious.
I'm Hungary now.
I love me some fresh steamed or fried okra!
I have alot of squash beetles 🪲 😕 how do i keep these bugs from killing my squash plants. 2years in a row 😢
I feel your pain. I usually pull my first squash plants at the end of June, and replant in July. I dust the base of the plants with sevin powder but they usually are gone by end of August again. There are many home remedies on the you tube, and most work somewhat, but I've never had squash to last all spring and summer, just too many bugs... You could also spray the leaves with liquid Sevin, but you have to repeat often, and I don't like to do that. I wish I had more to offer, but they always seem to win.
@@TheBackGardenYard double planting I guess next year... I heard it's larvae in the soil..
@@gardeninggirlct I sometimes dust my squash plants BEFORE they start bearing, or spray with liquid sevin before start bearing. I believe that spraying this way is harmless, and will at least give you a couple of nice harvests before the bugs take over. I have been using sevin for many years, and believe it's safe if used this way.
