    I hope I saved my motor on my new 2023 ZX14R, that I just picked up, because a month ago I lost my 2012 ZX14R(#3 rod bearing w/ 36K miles) even though I kept the maintenance up on it and the oil filled to the top of the sight glass. I immediately ordered the oil pump cover the day I took ownership of the 2023 14R, and once it arrived I installed it. Hopefully I'm covered this time around. Kudos for this video because it definitely helped me install the oil cover cover myself, when I would've sent it to the shop to be performed. Money saved and I learned something new...a win win in my book!

    remember to use JIS screwdrivers to locktite the 3 screws behind the clutch basket as they can easily chew out if you're a clutz with hand tools

  • @davidwalters3849
    @davidwalters3849 Год назад +5

    ATTENTION everyone:Please check bearing retainer screws because the factory may not have loctite them they are behind your clutch. Three screws around input shaft also check screw behind shift drum. This should be a RECALL but, KAWASAKI is ignoring it I have found others who have had loose bearing retainer screws on the ZX14R. I'm in Canada by the way. If these screws are loose your gearbox is toast. Please check those screws it may save your life. This is a CLASS ACTION SUIT in the making. Please watch ZX14 transmission fix part 1. go to 9 minutes and then watch. KAWASAKI has ignored this for years. Please contact me here for info.

      @davidwalters3849 9 месяцев назад

      @@jadijada7887 I replaced my 2014 engine with a 2017 and had it inspected. The 2017 engine had a locking agent on the bearing retainer screws. I also had the screws behind the shift drum reapplied with red loctite and had the oil pump cover replaced with a thicker upgrade from SAE racing

    • @davidwalters3849
      @davidwalters3849 9 месяцев назад

      @@jadijada7887 The ZX14R is a good machine but, it's weaknesses must be addressed. When put oil in have the level at the top of the oil window okay. It is most likely that the newer model like what you wanna buy has a locking agent on the threads for the bearing retainer. You only have check one screw to see if there is any but, also check your screws behind the shift drum and loctite those. It is not a expensive endeavor.

I did not use copper washers as Yoshimura recommended and I have a slight leak from the elbow on the first and fourth cylinders, the leak is subtle and rust-colored

    I need to know if i should do the relieft valve gear and plate or just the plate or just the plate and releif valve. Ive seen some people say on forums that the gear causing more circulation had theyre (stock) oil pan dry? Im not sure what to do ive already bought all 3

    • @rockitdorkadventures6094
      @rockitdorkadventures6094  5 дней назад

      I have not had any issues with running out of oil in the pan, the gear will spin faster for more volume means more pressure. The relief valve increases the pressure as well. If you are worried about oil starvation then just replace the plate and relief valve. the plate is main issue and flexing and allowing oil to bypass and starve the rod bearings.

    What did u do for the crank gear on the clutch basket

    • @rockitdorkadventures6094
      @rockitdorkadventures6094  6 месяцев назад

      You don's have to do anything to the clutch basket gear. The pump gear is smaller, this will causes the gear to spin faster. In turn this creates more pressure with the pressure relief value. Hope that helps

      short high rpm cycles you will not need to worry, but as we all know the bike comes alive after 5k rpm and up. Any extended time in the upper rpm range you should change. If you're just touring and driving casually I would not worry about it.

    I’m not buying this whole oil pump mod thing, reason is my dad & i since 2006 have had combined 9 different ZX-14’s & not one suffered any sort of oil psi or bearing issue, combine that with a good friend that has 2 ZX-14R’s that are used for his iron butt association competitions, he has put tremendous miles on each of those bikes & due to the nature of his rides go 10+ thousand mile oil change intervals

  • @karlvanboxel561

    Surely if you’ve changed the gear for a smaller one on the oil pump you’d have to replace the the drive gear for the clutch to oil pump for a larger one? If u did u didn’t cover that !

    • @rockitdorkadventures6094
      @rockitdorkadventures6094  2 года назад

      Hey thanks Karl for the question, you only need to change the oil pump gear. The new oil pump gear and clutch gear mesh to create a gear set. The stock gear has 35 teeth and the upgrade is 32 teeth. The gear will spin faster off of the same clutch gear. Hope this helps.
