It’s not a particularly good idea to give a server at a restaurant a large tip. Tips are taxable and this one is quite public. I would tell the server this is a gift to you it has nothing to do with a tip. I’m tipping you separately so you can claim the tip as income but this money that I’m giving you is a gift. I guarantee you can save her about 20% in taxes 6 1/2% Social Security matched by 6 1/2% by the restaurant. Give a gift not a tip Edit: based on some of the comments that I’ve seen it is apparent to me that people don’t necessarily understand the ramifications of giving a tip like this. As stated before tips are subject to income tax as well as 6 1/2% Social Security for the owner and 6 1/2% for the employer. Additionally if the tip is on a credit card, the proprietor or owner of the restaurant I will be responsible for at least 2% of the total of the check and it could be as much as 3 1/2% of the check. Let’s think a little bit here, $1000 tip would mean that the restaurant would be responsible to pay 6 1/2% of that as matching Social Security and usually 9.9% for unemployment compensation to the state. So if you think the server is going to get the money all of it you are wrong. The restaurant by law is responsible for the above mentioned fees, figure it out you’ll see for yourself. Nice gesture but expensive for others who are involved. Remember the restaurant owner is not going to get the money from a credit card transaction until the next day in his/her account.
@@aronk_ My brudda, (childish language) Not hardly. Chances are you don’t care about much of anything. I don’t care that you don’t care. Chances are you wouldn’t understand it anyway.
@Rufaro Chikovore I don’t know that anyone said that they couldn’t afford it. But by giving the tip as a tip that wastes perhaps 25% for the recipient the waitress and causes the restaurant if it was on a credit card 2% to 2 1/2% for use of the credit card. Additionally the employer would be responsible for over 6% in matching Social Security and probably 9.9% for unemployment compensation, the penalty on the restaurant is overwhelming and they get nothing from this. Laws vary from state to state so it could be more or less but definitely a cost to the restaurant. It has nothing to do with whether or not anyone can afford it. How do you know what financial position the givers are in, the restaurant is in or the server is in?
@@the_bencredible Spoken like a person that does not understand not even 10% of what was written. If it was on a credit card the restaurant is on the hook for 2% of the thousand dollars, 6 1/2% Social Security. Additionally the restaurant on the hook for 9.9% for unemployment compensation to the state. The server is going to pay 20% in income tax plus 6 1/2% Social Security contribution. There is no cost to anyone if it’s given as a gift and not a tip. I am sorry to say that you are probably one of those people who would accept any conditions as long as you got a few bucks without thinking and you obviously don’t care and you certainly don’t understand. Maybe to help you a little the thousand dollars is going to diminish by 20% in taxes, they are going to charge her 6 1/2% Social Security on $1,000. The restaurant gets none of tip but they have to match 6 1/2% Social Security, 9.9% unemployment compensation and at least 2% for using the credit card. Everyone of these calculations is on the original thousand dollars. So you think she’s going to get $800?????
I drive for lyft and uber in miami full time for 4 years,is nice to see people doing nice things for servers even tho the servers here are the cheapest rides because they never tip...😂🤣😅...!
U don't give someone something and have everyone recording to post it somewhere...alot of these nice things that are done these days wouldn't be done at all if it wasn't for the opportunity to post it on Facebook...
Listen Paul, While that's one way to perceive it, think positive! I cant really afford to give $1,000 tip right now, but I would if I had it. Stories like this inspire people and melt their hearts! How else would I or anyone else know if it wasnt recorded! Always think positive and have good thoughts!

So then she gets $800 or so all said and done? What’s the problem exactly? I’d be thrilled to have an additional $800 in my life for no reason 🤷🏻♂️

Why do you have to film your good deed and put it on the internet?
This was unknown in my country..India. Now folks in India have started doing this...worth capturing on film..
To inspire others
So that others can follow the suit and learn to be generous. Acts of kindness are contagious.
