I put it down then come back to it later. Have been smoking a pipe over 30 years. Different pipes for every day. I like medium tobaccos with a good room note. Love all of Sutliff tobaccos and have made plans to attend thier 175rh Anniversary bash. Love that pipe, love my Petersons.
Joe, as for me it has never been about needing another pipe. When I spot one that I want, that's what does it for me. If my wife asks the question 'do you really need another pipe I'm ready for her. "Dear; how many purses are there in that front hall closet"? That generally ends any and all debate.
I love my pub pipe, honestly Ive been looking to get the pub billiard. Every tobacco I put in it smokes and tastes great. Thanks for the content sir and continued success. 😎
Hello, Joe. Just a few lines to let you know that I liked that pipe so much that I purchased one as soon as I could. It is a fantastic pipe, easy to smoke, and easy to hold. However, the only thing against it is the curvature of the mouth piece, so bent that it is almost impossible to slide a pipe cleaner completely through it. Thank you and regards.
Only been married 7 years and I know to not throw stones in a glass house. My favorite tobaccos are strong English blends and ropes. I like to power through the smokes, because there comes a point when my whole body can't move and I love that. It feels like I'm sinking into the floor after a while.
When i've had enough, i usually sit it down and do whatever i'm doing for 30 minutes, an hour, maybe two hours, and then usually i'll come back to it when I'm feeling up to it.
For me it depends on the day as far as what pipe I reach for and what tobacco I load up in it. Most days I only have time for one pipe and it’s usually a medium sized bowl in a Savinelli 320 or something similar in the mornings with haunted bookshop, Epiphany, or Duke Albert; maybe a Virginia in the heat of the summer. On the weekends when I’m off work I like to get up early, early put on a pot of coffee and load up a heavy hitter in a larger pipe to sit on the deck, watch the sunrise, and sip on for a couple of hours before the kids wake up and chaos ensues. My favorite blend for those mornings is usually Peterson’s Irish Flake. I cellar that one deep! Love those pub pipes as well!
Nice looking pipe! Got a pub pipe a couple years ago. Liked it so much I followed it up with a house pipe. Great pipes to settle in with at the end of the day. Not looking for a nic hit, so usually pretty mild blends in my pipes. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing! I love a good Sutliff's War Horse bar or a Mac Baren: HH Bold Kentucky - filling up the bowl in my Joh's bent brandi churchwarden, or cob, spending a handful of hours - leaving it & returning to it on and off - as much as the next guy... just go at your own pace and enjoy... live and let live as they say... currently watching your video while puffing on a rather delicious yet simple Captain Black Original through a Peterson: Aran Rusticated Fishtail bent apple; about to load one of my Neerup bent apples with some Hearth & Home BlackHouse... ; ) life can be good; despite all the bad...
So true. Thanks for sharing. That is what I enjoy about pipe smoking so much. It gives you a chance to step out of the chaos, replax, and enjoy the moment.
I'm like you, i'll do my best to finish the bowl. I've found that eating some granuated sugar helps to counter that quezy stomach feeling I get from a big nic hit. Eating before a strong pipe usually helps, but the sugar is the best antidote for me when when a meal was not enough.
Interesting. Someone else said chocolate so I guess that would be the sugar as well. I’ll have to give that a try the next time my eyes are bigger than my “stomach?”
It depends how far through the bowl I am. If I am 3/4 or more through the bowl Ill either finish it or dump it out. If i am only half way through the bowl Ill put it aside for latter, but then learn from my experience that the blend needs a smaller pipe. I do like my stronger tobaccos like HH Old Dark Fired or Peterson Nightcap. I just need the appropriate pipe for the tobacco choice.
I don’t really have any issues with nicotine strength so I just plow right through. Personally for me it’s more about the flavor, process and the chill factor. Great pipe BTW, I’ve been looking at those for some time as well! 👍
Do you smoke quickly? How do you handle heat in the pipe. I lost a pipe to heat so I’m paranoid about this. Getting anything from Nicotine certainly causes me to slow down which in turn results in a cooler smoke. The pub pipe has been great! I highly recommend picking one up if you’re able.
Gawith Hoggarth Dark Flake and Plug are the only blends that got me. I just set it down for a second and finished later. Seeing that new pipe you got makes me want to get one. I usually like the stronger blends but sometimes I do smoke a milder blend. It all depends on how Im feeling.
Been with my "wife" for 25 years and she don't tell me how to spend my $$ and I don't tell her how to spend hers. It makes for an easier relationship when you take that aspect out of it and just live and let live and enjoy each others company.
I power threw lol. I just ordered a 300$ meerschaum cracked egg eagle pipe along with nicotiana rustica flake and plum pudding limited edition. I've been smoking for 25yrs n have never spent more then 25 on a pipe so I finally went all out😁
I think ive got a natural "leather" tongue, so i lean towards medium to strong blends in a meerschaum to really bring out the flavor. HH Latakia is an absolute go-to for me, its so good!
I’ll have to give that a try. Speaking of trying things, I’ve been eyeing Meerschaum pipes for some time now but don’t own any and have never smoked one. Any advice on picking one out?
Man for sure! They are such a game changer that im surprised that most pipers dont use them regularly. Id avoid a really expensive meer and go with a basic/standard shape to save on cost. I got an AKB smooth billiard for around $120. Id also suggest watching Classical Pipes channel for meer care as they do need just a little more attention to cleaning
A lot of sensitivity to vitamin N is so individual. I dipped snuff before coming to the pipe, so the relatively low level of nicotine in pipe tobacco doesn’t phase me. Not a “manly” thing…just is what it is. My favorite blends are often considered strong in that regard-Black and Brown Irish twists, Bold Kentucky, Haunted Bookshop, Pirate Kake, etc. But I don’t like them for any kick, I just don’t have much sense of smell, so I can taste stronger blends more. If I were to feel buzzy, I’d likely set it aside for a while and try a smaller bowl next time.
Man, I've never been able to finish a bowl of Haunted Bookshop. Even after a big Thanksgiving meal too. I just avoid those blends because I don't get the buzz, I just go from normal to sick. It's like a switch. Sometimes I've thrown up. When I'm stupid and I go back to one of those blends I normally just do half a bowl and if I'm not sick I call it quits and dump the bowl.
Wow. Must be something in it that doesn’t agree with you. There are certain strong tobaccos that don’t affect me like I think they should and then there are other mild tobaccos that kick my butt.
I enjoy the nicotine buzz, but if I smoked Haunted Bookshop in a pub pipe, it would be too much for me. I would have to set it down and finish it the next day.
I’ve certainly set a pipe down for a time, but never a full day. Coming from smoking cigars, I rarely do this because when done with a cigar, it ruins the taste for me. Do you find that same thing with coming back to a pipe?
I guess I don’t smoke for the nicotine aspect of it, so I don’t really regard the nicotine level of a blend. Thankfully, I haven’t felt the impact of the nicotine too much. I don’t really care for it. Depending on the time of day and what I’m doing - that will determine whether I keep smoking or not. I like VaPers with Kentucky in them, and don’t like English blends, so maybe I’m somewhat used to heavier nicotine? However, I don’t feel any side effects on days that I don’t smoke. But, I don’t have any pipes the size of that one you are smoking. Wow. I’m sure that can pack a punch. Most of my bowls are medium sized.
I’ve noticed my choice in pipes is gravitating to ones with larger bowls. Typically, with higher price tags to match. 😒. I’m learning that bigger isn’t always better. I always wince a bit when I have to empty a larger pipe before I’ve smoked the entire thing due to nicotine. It’s like buying a big truck. More expensive with poorer gad mileage. 😏

Thanks for the input. Where is this 175th anniversary being held? That sounds like a wonderful experience.

Haha. Well said.

Love a cup of coffee in the morning and that first bowl can hit hard, cant wait for fall, my favorite season to seat out and smoke.
Only been married 7 years and I know to not throw stones in a glass house.
My favorite tobaccos are strong English blends and ropes. I like to power through the smokes, because there comes a point when my whole body can't move and I love that. It feels like I'm sinking into the floor after a while.
Wow. I’ve never heard it described this way. Very interesting.
Beautiful pipe Joe!!
Thank you kindly. I agree! 😊
Nice pipe, looks like a long smoke. If I get a blend that is strong I just slow down till the dizziness goes away.
Thanks for sharing.
I try to do the same. Not always successfully.
When i've had enough, i usually sit it down and do whatever i'm doing for 30 minutes, an hour, maybe two hours, and then usually i'll come back to it when I'm feeling up to it.
Do you find that doing this alters the flavor of the tobacco?

I’ve been thinking about picking up a house pipe as well!
HH Rustica? may be what you were puffing. It's really strong I have a Peterson System 303 for that blend.
I've always said that some numbers are best left unsummed.
👆🏻 Yes. This right here. 😊

Heavy hitters I love a good nic hit 🤷♂️and that is a nice hunk of briar!!! I’ve been eyeing them too
It’s a great pipe. I’ve enjoyed it, but don’t think I would ever be able to finish it with any heavy hitter.

Nice pipe. That a big’ one, looks like it could drive nails, 🤙
Haha. Thanks. However, I have no plans on testing your theory. 😏

I’ve really been enjoying the Pub pipe. Although, there have been times where it’s a challenge for me to finish an entire bowl.
Thanks for taking a hit for the younger married crowd😂
If I had the means I’d buy you a pipe🫡
Peace & Blessings
Haha. Much appreciated!

Very nice! Congratulations! Let me know what you think of the Meerschaum pipe. I’ve been thinking of picking one up but haven’t just yet.
Power through, no matter the consequences. Try a triple dark recipe. Lovely punch 👊

@@joeandtell yeah I think it’s the flavor
I continue to the end
Powerpuffer! 😊
Prefer a heavily latakia laced English or Balkans style tobacco. I like it very strong.
Big fan of Balkans as well.
I enjoy the nicotine buzz, but if I smoked Haunted Bookshop in a pub pipe, it would be too much for me. I would have to set it down and finish it the next day.

It certainly can be a “struggle” to get through a bowl depending on what I’m smoking. 🥴
Nice of your wife to do the accounting work for you.
Haha. Yes. Isn’t that kind?!
That’s not a pipe, that’s a saxophone 🎷
I have 4 pipes room for one more
Always room for one more. 😏
I’ll either take a break or greatly reduce my cadence. As for strength, depends on the time of day and my mood…
Seems reasonable. I try to slow down but am not always successful. 😏
WHOA...I need one like that...those pipes have become very costly...😢 ... I woild settle for A second/ or used one!!!😅
I’ve noticed my choice in pipes is gravitating to ones with larger bowls. Typically, with higher price tags to match. 😒. I’m learning that bigger isn’t always better. If you get too buzzed from nicotine eat chocolate. Works like a charm. Also works if you get too stoned for you stoners out there
Someone else said sugar! Thanks for the tip.
I prefer smaller pipes and low to medium nic hits most of the time.
I’m with you on the tobacco, but do find that I prefer a larger pipe when I have the time.
42 years of marriage I keep my mouth shut 😊 that is how u get in trouble
Haha. Good advice. 🤫🤐
