Terncote They aren´t a rich airline alike Jetblue or another airlines..... and they could do it ''with intent of increasing seat sales''.... and they also have made many things from years for the city of Puerto Plata, Nuevo Renacer... very near from me, and its great that an airline with no much money have a very good heart!
They didn't focused on their product so they only did a small advertisement in it.
The important part here is that last time they gave gifts to people who already have wealth and it's on their place. Now that's advertisement.
Right now, they are the one who visited the people who are in need and bye using their jets you could go to that place to help and share your gifts to people who are in need. Now they only want to have a good image.

My favorite part of this was actually in the credits: The Hughes family helped make it happen this year, when they were on the receiving end last year. :)
I have a couple of questions for those who are criticizing WestJet's Spirit of Giving initiative in the Dominican Republic:
- What have you done for your fellow man lately (or ever)?
- If you could reach out and help someone (besides yourself, which seems to be your focus), how would you do it better?
I'm Dominican and I couldn't be prouder nor happier to see how West Jet decided to bless one of our many poor communities. What a wonderful token of love. May our God bless each one of you abundantly, especially the person who thought of Dr as a destination for a wonderful miracle!
If you watch the credits, you will see that special thanks are given to those who helped make this possible, but last year "The Hughes Family" were the ones that got the big screen TV. I think it is awesome that they helped out in this years gift giving. Way to go westjet and all the supporters that make these things happen!
Seems to me this is more than marketing that´s the real spirit of this company! That´s what i believe in. It would be a great pleasure and honour to work for WestJet!

And this is the very reason that I only fly on WestJet. Their spirit of giving is simply the true meaning of Christmas. I had one flight from Newfoundland to Toronto and I was in bad shape. The WestJet flight attendants took amazing care of me with blankets and pillows and ginger ale. They checked on me every few minutes and escorted me off the plane in a wheelchair straight to my Dad. I LOVE WESTJET. Merry Christmas to all.
Guys, greetings from Dominican Republic, thanks for all your love, your support,and taking care of the poor people of the north shore of my country when nobody done something like that before; this video touched my heart, thank you guys, keep being like that, God Bless You.

I regret to inform all you admirers of this wonderful project, that Benjamin Cole passed away last night in an airplane accident, on his way from Port au Prince to Puerto Plata. His passing is an irreparable loss, as his shoes will be hard to fill. Lets pray so that the good Lord has dear Cole happy in Heaven looking over us and his beloved needed children here in the DR and Haiti.
I wept as I watched this. Thank you so much to WestJet for this most amazing thing you did for the people of the Dominican Republic. I am the director of Dominican Starfish Foundation. We work in the neighboring community. Knowing so personally the great needs of the people there, this touched my heart more than I can explain. THANK YOU!

As a Dominican living in Canada all I have to say is thank you WestJet. This is beyond incredible!
OK now my mind is made up. Whenever I'm flying anywhere and the options are between Westjet and Air Canada, I will chose Westjet even if it costs a little more. I see how they touch others' lives.

I fly out for this Christmas to see my family and it's on West Jet of course. Once you fly West Jet, you'll never go back. There is no comparison.
evoeightyci I've had to chose Air Canada whenever the prices are the same because I get Aeroplan points, but I think from now, Westjet's initiatives are worth giving up Aeroplan points for.
Just want to let you know that I have switched from Air Canada to Westjet 2 years ago and am very happy. The prices are cheaper and Westjet is more on time on schedules than Air Canada a big + MERRY CHRISTMAS

Ah you fell victim to a marketing campaign. That is exactly what this video is suppose to do. It's suppose to get you to think that the people at West Jet are such great people and actually care about others. Nothing wrong with thinking that, and I agree this video is great, but just know that your are the type of person that companies target these types of videos at.

I couldn't help to break in tears from this act of kindness. I am Dominican and trust me I know the struggle. I didn't had much when I was a kid but I was happy. This makes me very happy that you guys took your time and money to bring a smile to the less fortunate. I don't know those people and whatever the reason behind this I don't care cause you guys made those people very very happy and for that I thank you with all my heart.

I love West Jet. We used to fly via West Jet from Nova Scotia to Hamilton to visit our son and his family. We have since moved to Woodstock to be closer to our family and don't fly as often as we used to. West Jet has blessed us many times... West Jet preformed a miracle for our family...

"Tis better to give, than it is to receive". That is the message here. The fact that Westjet did this, and some of you can't see beyond the company and see it as pure marketing is just sad. Westjet does NOT have to give back. They CHOOSE to. The owner since day one has made it a point to make every employee partial owner - point - not a selfish man. Look beyond the apparent marketing and get the message about giving. The message about caring for other human beings besides yourself. Bravo Westjet - Another Christmas of making someone smile, and you do this all year round. I even see Air Canada this year followed suit by flying some Canadians in a popular gathering place in London home for the holidays. So you inspired the competition! Inspiring all the world to give when you can to brighten someone's day is the point!

Many call this marketing and other names not worth mentioning, but I'd like to meet the person who made this type of marketing something special, something unexplainable, something people call 'Christmas Spirit'. As a Dominican, I thank you for choosing a poor community in my country. I offer you my heartfelt gratitude and invite all the big and small companies to perform such marketing, because if many imitate WestJet, this world would be better. This would bring more joy to our successors and I am sure that the future would be different. It would be brighter.

so, as a person from dominican republic, i feel so happy to see this, because, we dominicans most of the time feel so invinsible,like,nobody never know anything about us, nobody never comes here,nobody never mention us,and the thing is, that this place is so beautiful, full of so many wonderful and talented people, of course we have some problems, but, every country have some problems, i wish more people come here and see all the wonderful and unique things we have here.

I think this just about made my day! Thank-you for the reminder of what Christmas is all about. I should also add that when I purchase a service I feel I'm making a very deliberate choice with my money. I love what you are doing and I will continue to choose your airline time and time again!
Even if this is a marketing strategy, then it should be a lesson for many other companies too. I loved it. I'd fly with them if i could have. See that man run when he saw his horse, i tell you, that's not just christmas, that blessing.
WestJet shows the true spirit of Real Canadians! They've built their business into a huge success, with innovative ideas and hard work - and without treating their employees like some companies do, ie: walmart, home depot, etc!!

I am pretty cynical and critical, yet watching some of these videos nearly brings tears to my eyes. Stories of giving out of a sense of good or advertising makes little difference to me. As long as some one benefits with the generosity, giver or receiver is just fine by me.
There are so many areas of the world that are in crisis and millions of people that need help of one kind or another, even here at home in Canada. To me it is GREAT to see these videos.

I loved the fact that this year, they decided to give to the LESS FORTUNATE rather than some random Canadians who could afford to travel home for the holidays. Also, did you notice they went shopping LOCALLY, which supported their local economy too!

To those who are disagreeing: Yes, it looks like +WestJet decided to give gifts to those who could use a little holiday spirit, instead of lowering your rates. How cruel of them. And, yes, it is a marketing strategy. It's branding. I wish it were a priority for more companies to be seen as caring, compassionate, kind, charitable, and interested in spreading joy to more than just their customer base.
