    A comparison of Metroid Prime on the Nintendo Gamecube VS the Metroid Prime Remaster on Nintendo Switch. Full disclosure: This comparison is a "remaster" of one I previously released on my channel. I went in and corrected the aspect ratio, cleaned up the overlay, and fixed audio problems. Hope you all enjoy!

    Only when put side by side it’s apparent how vast the improvements really are!!

      i found the interview and it sounds like the visual filter is only available on legacy control mode which doesnt make any sense, theres no reason for that. i also dont like it being treated as a n afterthought. the color filter is not the only thing that made mgs3 look like it did.
      since we're talking abt mgsd now there's also the issue with the boss not looking exactly like herself. she's supposed to look like Charlotte Rampling. her model is ok but it could def be better ngl.

    This game looks amazing on the Switch. It also looked great on the GameCube, the GC was basically as powerful as the original Xbox. The gameplay feels very similar to the original, it would have been nice if their was more 'kick' when shooting. Thats one thing Halo always got better in that generation, along with the story. Also, I feel like Nintendo got the graphics so great on this re-make because this is the exact same graphical style/'system' they will be using for Metroid 4. At least that's what it looks like from the preview on the Direct. I hope not because I'd rather them show off what the switch 2 can do. But more than likely not; considering this was always being developed on the OG Switch. Just like BOTW on WiiU and Switch.

    Remaster definitely looks good, but there are subtle design changes I think that still make the gamecube version better (in those aspects). I kind of like the scratchy, static-y appearance and the subtle movements in the original game's title screen. The remaster's menu as a result just looks far less stylized and more static without that. It has less life. Which unfortunately brings me to how some of the lighting works. No doubt the remaster's lighting is superior in terms of baked lighting and texture detail is better, too. But the missing dynamic lights from the arm cannon fire in many scenes is unfortunate and the lack of reflections in spots (even if they were done using heavy tricks back then, who cares, it's the end result that matters) also reduces the dynamism of scenes. That said, at least the water motion and effects aren't missing in this version like in the Wii version. And everything else is just outright better looking than the gamecube iteration. I will say I think fixing the (or keeping the fixed) physics bugs was a mistake. It made subsequent playthroughs far better and more interesting. It's like if someone released Super Metroid Remastered and removed all the speed boost tricks to skip sections of the game. That stuff is part of the game and a huge part of the reason the original was so lauded, since it opened the game up in ways beyond just the original mostly linear pathway through it.

      The game is 22 years old. It really is mind-blowing what Retro pulled off with the original game. People who sleep on what the GameCube was capable of graphically must not have played games like Prime 1 and 2.

    I would love to see someone run the OG Metroid Prime on a CRT through S-Video side by side with Prime Remastered running on a 1080p (NOT 4K) IPS monitor. That is a more accurate comparison.

    • @indominus_B
      @indominus_B  7 месяцев назад +6

      This is a 100% accurate comparison. I'm well aware that consoles from the Gamecube generation and back look better on CRT tvs. They were designed for them. I have a very nice CRT I use for my retro gaming. However, everything here is running in its native resolution on real hardware. If you're advocating for people to play their retro games on CRT, hey, I'm all for it. However, it's completely false to say this is not an accurate comparison. If someone plugs up a Gamecube nowadays on a modern TV, this is exactly what you'll see. In fact, the image here is even better than default. I'm running it through an hdmi adapter via the component port on the Gamecube.

      @@RicochetForce it might be the most raw comparison but not the most fair comparison. the devs made the game being mindful of how the crt would process the image. u can find examples like ff7, silent hill and RE, castlevania, etc. where it looks better (intentionally) because the game was made for crt.
