The previous year, when she was 14, he had paid her the honour of accompanying her on piano as she performed the song "Tomorrow is a Lie" that he had composed for and with Lara Fabian. Her performance was so stunning that after it he bought her an apartment in Moscow so that she could move there and study at an elite music school. In contrast, Lara Fabian's reaction was to buy out Igor's share of the song's copyright, with the result that Diana never performed it again. Igor tried to sign Diana up to a contract but she refused, as she has all such offers. Thank you for thoughtful review, Diana is the worlds greatest female singer to whom I have been addicted for more than 6 years since seeing her on the 'You Are Super' at age 14, which she won, and returned the following year to win again, with performances that are legendary. Alexander Stepin knew how to get the best performance from Diana at that time.
I read that she was not speaking after she was rescued, and the social worker who adopted her decided to get her singing lessons in the hope that she would learn to comminicate vocally that way. She turned out to love singing and performing.
I've been enamored with Diana's vocals for more than half a decade now as a fan in Texas. She's brilliant. In My Huge City, Baikal (for a motion picture, and filmed underwater for most of the video) or Oh Don't Cry are 3 amazing originals...but there are many more plus some more spectacular covers in multiple languages. During 2008 to 2012 Diana sang around 40 songs in over 50 national and international competitions. Her confidence grew, her voice continued to develop ... until one day she was asked to compete in more distant competitions so that other children could have a chance to win.
Her mom, Irina Ponik, turned her whole life inside out and started all over with a new motherhood and many new professions - seamstress, manager, vlogger… admirable.
Diana is a contralto (deep alto), the rarest and lowest female voice type. Her voice has natural polyphonic overtones and sometimes specifically an undertone. (You hear the voice a few notes lower than Diana actually sings. It's not that you hear a clear tone straight away, it's more that you feel like there's something in Diana's voice or the song has been edited. Not everyone can hear that.)

In 2017 Diana went to Moscow, to 'The Voice Kids'. She sang 'Yodel-Time' - ruclips.net/video/25sEDIzVuSU/видео.html but none of the judges turned around but the entire audience gave a standing ovation. What happened? The next day, a huge scandal erupted on social media. A door had closed, but a new door opened...
In 2018 and 2019 Diana entered a competition 'You are Super and won twice. That project is unique in the world, an international TV- competition especially for adopted and orphaned children.
The project producers help the finalists to start her studies and promote her creativity. Diana won a scholarship and Igor Krutoy (Russian music titan, juror and sponsor) gave her a small apartment (37m²/ 398.26 ft²) in Moscow. There she lives with her mother and grandmother and was able to start her vocal training with the best teachers such as Professor Olga Donskoy. (She died of Covid-19 in October 2020).
Her Russian fans helped her and found a new voice coach: Alexandra Pismennaya (Sasha), who was a student of Prof. Donskoy. She and Diana are on the same wavelength and have even become friends.
Diana also plays the piano (with exams) and the ukulele.
2020 Diana graduated from high school with honors as an external student a year earlier as “normal”, applied to music colleges and was rejected (examiners suspected she had a voice defect). But she is normal and healthy. (Shame on them). Now she is a student at the university, at the legendary Russian State Institute for Theater and Variety Arts (Juilliard similar to GITIS).

Diana has received many offers from highly paid music managers also Igor Krutoy but she is a very smart young woman and so far she has maintained her independence from the merciless music industry. In 2024 she began her 5th and final year of study.
In December 2021, Dianas released her first CD with great success. All the songs were written for her. Maestro Krutoy had introduced Diana to the excellent singer, songwriter and producer Brandon Stone. With Maria Tarasenko (songwriter), the trio created the 9 songs of the album and received gold in June 2022.
She now also writes and composes her own songs. Her confidence grew, her voice continued to develop ... until one day she was asked to compete in more distant competitions so that other children could have a chance to win.

One video of Diana's, in my sight, is a total masterpiece the like of which I don't remember ever seeing before in my long life. It's a must see for anyone that loves singing with unending emotion. The background of the song is essential to know. The title of the song is "Ornery (or "Fastidious" or "Finicky") Horses". The song has nothing to do with horses in reality - the horses are being used as a metaphor for life.
