A lot of us pretend to be alright but when we pick up an instrument and play without thinking too hard about writing a personal experience the truth comes out.
Ain't that the flipping truth🤣
I love how you incorporate things that just make me laugh out loud. You get your points across and do it in a way that is so entertaining! Well done, sir
Cheers Kenneth, you're too kind. Really glad you got some value from it 👍
nice timing for this video to turn up as im writing some lyrics so will be very helpful .Its in interesting you mentioned 'inner' in the video as i was deciding should i use that word as had it written in a lyric im working on so it got decided im going to now lolThanks
Cheers mystikrebel, glad it was helpful 👍👍
Your videos are always interesting! And so helpful! Thanks ! 😊
Cheers Yaizacar, I really appreciate that. Glad you're getting some value from them 👍
These videos are really fantastic. Thanks so much for uploading! They give me inspiration and get me unstuck on a regular basis.
cheers john, I really appreciate that. great to hear you're getting value from it.
Thanks for the lesson.
No worries coastercook, hope it's useful 👍
Perfect and broad advice, great examples and visuals, love the cross-over with story narrative.
I also love more abstract lyric writing like Kurt Cobain too
Cheers adarkimpurity, I really appreciate that. Yeah I'm a fan of the abstract stuff myself. But hey, a good tune is a good tune and PS has a ton of them.👍
@@SongWritersChopShop For sure, we used to cover Kodachrome, Still Crazy, and Slip Slidin' Away, always loved Bright Eyes by Art too. So many amazing songs...
I always think every time when listening to Mrs Robinson after the 'Hey Hey Hey' resolve to V it was going to go harmonic minor/phrygian dominant, Egyptian style- just a random funny side-note, haha!
Def fun to add the solo if you give it a try!
@@adarkimpurity haha, slip right into "walk like an Egyptian"! Nice
@@SongWritersChopShop Exactly, but I went too far and went for more Wherever I May Roam; far too far... hehe
Really enjoying this channel
Nice one Alfie, great to hear you're getting some value from it 👍
Great video man. :D
Cheers Matt, I really appreciate that. Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Honestly, your videos are incredibly informative and come from a place of genuine experience. Really appreciate the effort to pour into them. Lyrics are a particular bugbear of mine. I have a reasonably solid vocabulary, but f**k me, writing lyrics has always been a nightmare, even after having been the vocalist in a band for 10 years. I think one of the biggest issues is having the balls to put down real thoughts and feelings, over a vague pastiche of what you really mean. Morrissey is the king of getting to the root of this and delivering the good everytime. Have you considered breaking down why Mozza beats pretty much anyone else on the lyrical front? Michael Gira, Mark Kozelek and Billy Corgan are also incredible.
@@mattboscan yeah lyrics can be a challenge alright. Saying what you mean, meaning what you say and then getting to sound good is like two different skill sets imo. We all have blocks and being honest with yourself and how you really feel can be a big one. My first drafts are always a messy rant on paper, I'll let it sit for a day or two and then come back and sort through the rubble with a different perspective. Sometimes it's like you have to trick yourself into allowing the most honest lines to stay. Practice writing like no one's watching and it will get easier. Yeah Morisey is quite the unique cat, haven't listened to the smiths in ages, I must revisit.
So I've just realised you have us chaining your videos so well that maybe we are not "liking" them enough for you.
I chain them like that for a couple of reasons.1 to break the lessons down into shorter videos, and 2 if people watch a few in a row it sends positive signals to the RUclips algorithm. 👍
0:06 lol, thats funny.
The information in here is very useful. Did you learn all this analysis at Berkely, or some other university?
Hey Tt, good to hear from you. I didn't learn it in Berkeley I'm just a nerd for this stuff.👍
He’s a master
You really have amazing rhythm of speaking , only the pauses between phrases can be little longer and it will feel more relaxing to hear . But Amazing Video , watched it 5 times to properly absorb all that information.
Cheers Abhishek thanks for the feedback, really appreciate it. Glad you got some value from the vid.
@@SongWritersChopShop I just wrote a song in a genre I would never write 😂, feeling so good , got a verse and a chorus . Thanks to you for all that information revolving while writing that idea .
@@AbhishekRajput-zq7xi nice! Let me know if you have questions 👍
5:05 Yeah! Jennifer!
🤣🤣
Good video. I appreciate the lesson. Not gonna credit Dan Harmon? 😉
Cheers Fisch, glad you enjoyed it. I figured that anyone that is aware of the story circle knows it’s Harmons iteration of Joseph Campbell's "Hero’s Journey ". The S.A.D method more a combination of basic story structures I noticed in a lot of different songs, hence me renaming the beats of the circle. But yeah, good on Harmon for using a circle. It's a nice shape.
I’m back MR T. When you visiting me or inviting me round for dinner?
YESSS, good to have you back buddy. I'll put kettle on...Breww?
Can you do a drake video
