My father was a locomotive engineer On a new your central railroad.. And used to go from Conneaut to Buffalo. My mother used to tell me stories when I was younger that She can always tell when he was coming home by the way blew the whistle and could start making dinner.. I still go to the railroad history Museum in Conneaut Ohio. To see the things that he left to them before he passed. Miss you DAD…
You choose my street, Marlowe ave and 2 of my best friends use to live in that white house as NKP 765 passed on by. I was born and raised in Lakewood for going on 27 years. But unfortunately I just started my job as a train railroad conductor on the Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad at Cedar Point amusement park. NKP 765 has a good role by and a good marker.
Dennis Tennant I agree their lives are important but these town folks are being careless. I am moving far away if I am in the town this video was filmed in I still wanna live.
There are some really dumb people there....standing like that around the tracks is just plain ignorant. That is exactly what will bring and end to steam excursions like these.
I’m sure Norfolk Southern noticed and here we are with no more mainline steam excursions on NS. They only allow 765 to deadhead to places like CVSR now where the liability for excursions is CVSR’s responsibility. 765 only had a brief three years of public excursions on NS in recent years, 2013, 2014, 2015. At least I rode behind it twice in PA, the May 2013 Horseshoe Curve excursion and the August 2015 excursions from Bethlehem to Pittston over NS and RBMN.
Yeah exactly not only for the peoples safety, but for the engineers sanity. If they hit someone they would have to live with that grief knowing they couldn’t do anything to stop it
27 crossings in 2 miles. o.O Every few years there is talk to have most of the crossings closed except for the main streets, but the city government argues that it would create a huge traffic nightmare and it wouldn't be worth the cost.
That would be Lakewood for you. Took them until the 1990's to put gates on all those crossings (sometime after I graduated and joined the Navy, they removed a 2nd set of tracks and THEN put guards on each crossing)...
Great video but alot of stupid people standing in the tracks and the two moving at the last moment. Unbelievable. That 404 tons will tear thru u and keep on moving.
That is one reason why class 1 railroads frown on steam excursions. Too much liability. UP is really the only class 1 railroad which never retired steam. 844 has been on their roster since the steam era and 4014 Big Boy they bought from a museum in California and restored it to service. They are also the only class 1 that didn't change their name besides Canadian National, but they bought other railroads like Missouri Pacific, Southern Pacific, etc.

Never mind all the grade crossings. What about all the people standing on the tracks.

Lakewood Ohio- Cleveland inner suburb
MWRRF Video of the week right off the web!
This whistle sounds a little bit different from 2009. When 765 was doubleheading with 1225.
:' )......they do NOT make them like THIS anymore......TOO majestic!!!!!! Even the whistle is MAJESTIC!!! 2:54 just...MAGNIFICENT!!!
It's whistle is epic.

+Felamine I would think this already causes traffic problems lol
Ikr
The people look like they were in a trance at the beginning LOL
Can you blame them??? It is GORGEOUS!!!
Thanks a lot! Yes, that is Marlowe Ave.
jesus christ there are a lot of grade crossings. the engineer got a nice arm workout.
I dont think he was whistling at the crossings. I think he was whistling at all the trespassers
That would be Lakewood for you. Took them until the 1990's to put gates on all those crossings (sometime after I graduated and joined the Navy, they removed a 2nd set of tracks and THEN put guards on each crossing)...
lol
wonder if I can find a route like this on the train simulator
Dang that's a lot of grade crossings!
In the UK the barrier comes down 5 minutes before the train arrives but I quite like your 5 seconds
No, far shorter than 5 minutes, if that was the case some gates would never open.
Great video but alot of stupid people standing in the tracks and the two moving at the last moment. Unbelievable. That 404 tons will tear thru u and keep on moving.
Not them. They're invincible and can do anything. Or so their teachers have always told them.
The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore not like they did back in 1954, now it's just for the cellphone cameras to take pictures.
I was in Ohio last week. Naturally I missed this and the chance to head up to MN to see 261.
Dang! Your at Marlowe Right? Great View and Vid of 765!
SOOOoo Beautiful!! WOW>>>>!!
If that does not get your heart pounding, you're dead
The engineers don't wave from the trains anymore not like they did back in 1954.
....like a rock star's arrival.
Why people are always near the railway stations home shop Etc. Because they are railway employees.
Signal Maintainers hate Lakewood OH, look at all those grade crossings LOL.
Ah yes lets keep standing in the way of a train coming..
Great sight and sound, stupid people dicing with death....
765 passes through Lakewood, Ohio.
Cannot belive the amount of stupid people standing on the tracks.

and people just keep driving in front of it.... smh
the whistle sounds like C&O 614
sounds like the train is having an argument
Linda locomotiva
Simplesmente emocionante , ver as pessoas parando para ver uma locomotiva a vapor passar é de encher os olhos de lágrimas. !
That little kid was right. Get off the damn tracks!!
I hope you got hearing protection.
good video
It is ag
And a heritage unit at 3:09
Sounds like Lord Buckley.
A simpler time :/
Polar express in real life
Perez Mary Clark Dorothy Moore Jose
WOW
Speed
Wow
..
Why chase a steam engine connected to a diesel? So fake!
The railroad makes them do it for added braking power.
+1870Logger DUDE YOU DO NOT I REPEAT YOU DO NOT KNOW THE ELEGANCE OF STEAM VERSUS DIESEL
I though the diesels were used to generate electricity for the coaches
Train Chamber you are correct..They do supply 12V current to run lights air conditioning etc
Ok Cool, I used to think the diesel was a helper/not only for electricity
