- After slowly working on this over the last year, I am finally ready to test out the new skirt clamping system. We've been able to lose more than 5 pounds of hardware over the old design, which works out to be about 20% lighter.
This has restored the handling abilities and is once again a pleasure to throw around. New batteries coming soon, along with some other major design revisions.
Still using the same HP Server Fans, and the skirt material is still made from a shower curtain.

DoogieLabs is a part of Research Reality- A group where hobbyists, artists, and thinkers collaborate to empower and foster intellectual creativity.
Research Reality is a group where people exchange information and ideas surrounding a specific project they are working on. Designed to cater to those who learn on their own through experience, this group attempts to document those learning experiences to share valuable information to those who are wanting to educate themselves on a given subject, which generally surrounds STEM and how it relates to the Computer, Electronics, and Automotive industries. Though, it is not limited to that at all! Research Reality encompasses sharing whatever knowledge will enable someone to achieve a given goal that will help them navigate through life. This could also be things like baking cookies, or even help deciphering legalese.
Please challenge yourself and strive to learn something new everyday! Don't forget to share with us what made your reality!
This is seriously cool as hell man but I still have a warm place in my heart for the server fan prototype. I guess it's just the old computer nerd in me. Great stuff man. We should probably get back in touch. Things that I can't discuss here are happening which you may be interested in. Much love brother.
I love the dust clouds!
Nicely built hovercraft. Has a good carrying capacity. This can also be seen from the dust clouds :-) It does swing very easily. I thought, maybe this can be solved by placing the motors at an angle to the outside.
I'm going to have to try this again at a sharper angle. The original all foam board one did use angled motors, but when I 3D printed I left them perfect straight.
I would really like to try something on the order of 15 degrees or so.
One of the other things coming soon with this project is variable pitch propellers so the motor doesnt have to stop and start the opposite direction anymore.
Thankyou for the feedback!
Cheers!
you need to take this to the water world parking lot. you can hit some high speeds lol
Just curious if you have any opinions on the crash of The Geek Group after you left.
Chris uploaded a video about 6 days ago talking about what happened he mentioned pretty much everybody involved with The Geek Group but didn't mention you, even though you were a part of it.
I certainly have thoughts and opinions about the matter. I'm not surprised I wasn't mentioned and in reality I'm a small footnote in their 20 year history, why should they?
I am one of MANY people that will not be mentioned, there were a lot of folks that put in effort to try and create something amazing. Ego (and perhaps greed?) had a lot to do with things unraveling.
I wanted the same thing then as I fight for still today, people to have a place to exchange ideas, where they learn from each other, and work together towards achieving common goals.
It would have been amazing to create an educational institution that allowed people to achieve some sort of accreditation through self learning.
I standby what I've written on my website, I was tired of seeing both staff and members mistreated, and wasn't going to stand for it myself. I cared about fostering an amazing atmosphere where folks could collaborate, and one of the last in a long line of contributors that decided not to participate after giving much to make it happen, and many gave so much more than I did. This dream is something I would still like to see through to fruition, perhaps one day.
It is time to relegate those days to old stories and create a new future drawing on experiences learned from hindsight.
You were a part of that history, and I'm thankful to have folks like you bearing witness to what actually happened by being in the chat and following the live stream day in and day out. There is no better feeling for me than to be able to teach people how to do things, and we did that all over the world live, and made it entertaining. You helped make that happen, along with everyone else who participated.
At this point my opinion is; It is sad that the whole thing came to an end, one that was completely avoidable, and the same reasons that brought it down were why I ultimately left. The real victims of the ordeal were you folks, and the surrounded community we all created.
Thankyou for your participation. Without people like you I would not have been inspired to try, and to be at the point I am today. You folks had such an extensive influence on my life, so much more than the those I interacted with daily at the lab. I loved being that guy designated to help you solve your problem having all the tools of the lab at my disposal to make it happen. Combined with the heads of everyone in the chatroom, the resulting discussion and banter was next level interpersonal, and fun. It made it easy for anyone following along to learn and ask questions. It made for one of the most fulfilling years of my life, so thank you for that.
