    I think you should of kept the polarity the same as when you had it on 110. Only time you should of changed it is if you switch from Flux core to solid core. Changing between voltage does not require polarity change, it might of welded better. Could be wrong of course.

    You don't need to change polarity with 220 vs 120; both use the same polarity. If you change polarity to DCEP from DCEN while flux-core welding, you'll get more spatter; doesn't matter what voltage you use.

  • @chaserchaserspeedracer
    @chaserchaserspeedracer 5 лет назад +48

    Fluxcore compared to shielded gas is like comparing off road tires vs street slicks. They serve different purposes. do the comparison outside in 15 mph wind.. fluxcore wins regardless of which machine you use. So the first part of the video is more about the wire not the machines. Js and I'm not a professional welder. Use the same wire in both machines and then this video makes more since. Your comparison is almost apples to oranges here.

      Chase Barrett I do agree they should have equipped the machines equally. Either flux core or MiG. This comparison isn’t really as useful as it could have been. If the purpose was to show the difference between flux and MiG, then the same machine should have been used.

    love your channel friend but this was not any kind of test. You had the polarity wrong on 220 and you never used both machines doing the same kind of welds. To make it fair. Fix the polarity, flux core with the miller, then gas weld with both welders and use the same wire. That would be a test set we would like to see. :-)

    If you were going to compare a Harbor Freight welder to the Miller 211, you should have went with the Vulcan Omnipro 220 multiprocessor or even the Titanium 200 multiprocessor. That would have been a better match up.
    Personally, I own both the Vulcan 220 and the Titanium 170 (amongst other welders---primarily Lincoln), but the Vulcan 220 would be a closer match as the Vulcan automatically sets its own settings after you input wire diameter and metal thickness. You can still tweak from the programmed settings, but nonetheless I bet it would be a closer match up.

  • @unclebob4208
    @unclebob4208 5 лет назад +6

    I don't have the Vulcan, but I'm 99% positive all flux-core is welded electrode-negative and ground positive- regardless of input voltage. That could account for your spatter on the 2nd try.

    The weld splater can be reduce by adjusting the voltage. When voltage is to high you will have more weld splatter. I was a high pressure pipeline welder quilified to API 1104, ASME Section 9 pressure vessel code and ASME strutural Welding codes in Arc welding, Gas Metal arc welding, and Flux core.
    When Linchon started developing fluxcore I help them setting pipeline welding procedures with flux core in the feild. The first flux core wire would jump from side to side making it difficult to weld. They made some changes to the chemical make up. We completed the procedure and I became certified for welding high pressure gas pipelines with flux core.

    I have this same welder because I got it last Sunday, and have been trying out the inductance setting. The knob on the right is the output inductance knob. Inductance controls weld puddle wetting area and arc time, which both affect penetration. High inductance increases the individual arc cycle time, improving the weld puddle wetting.
    Low inductance increases the frequency of each short circuit/arc cycle, used for a narrow bead in some joints. High inductance is good on thicker metals where good wetting at the weld's toes is needed. Low inductance works better for thin metal. If you have thin steel (18ga to 1/8"), it works best on 0-3. Thicker steel and rusty steel is better on 5-10. I've welded 3/32 wire successfully with no burn-through by setting the inductance to 0, amps to 13, and wire speed 120. This does way better for controlling welding than my cheap $285 Amazon 250amp welder did.

  • @melgross
    @melgross 4 года назад

    I don’t get the switch of the welding cables. Is this DC flux core? If so that’s DCEN-always. You NEVER use flux core as torch positive. Never. Going torch positive will give a lot more spatter, porosity, and much less wire in the weld, and much more everywhere else.
    I don’t understand why there was such a difference between the welders, flux core, gas, or whatever. I use both. If you’re welding properly, you can get an excellent, good looking weld either way. Yes, the MiG will give a slightly smoother weld surface. But Justin’s settings on the Titanium were likely incorrect, and again, flux core is always torch negative. You can never get a good weld torch positive, no matter the settings. I’ve tried, but you can’t.
    Welding in short sleeves for more than a few seconds is a bad idea because you not only get sunburned, but worse, after some time you can get melanoma, skin cancer. Pro welders are very aware of that. Jimbo, from Jimbo’sGarage, on You Tube, had cancer cut out of his arm’s from this, but still doesn’t seem to understand the danger, though several of us have told him, so he still welds in short sleeves, shorts, and sandals with socks. Very bad. You dad’s correct in talking about gloves and sleeves.

    Try using the miller with flux and the wrong polarity and then hook gas and solid wire to the HF Titantium and see if the results are exactly the opposite. I have a Miiller 525 that cost me thousands of dollars and i have this Titantium 170 that cost me under $600 and when set up exactly the same the results are almost exactly the same on metal less 1/4 inch in thickness. The HF welder is not even rated for metal more than half that thickness but it works. If i thought that you guys were trying to do an actual comparison then I would have never commented. but i have seen both of your previous welding videos so I know that the deception has to be intentional.

    That titanium 170 will actually spit out a bacon sounding, crisp, surprisingly bit hen weld. U gotta break the slag to even se what ur welds look like

    Can anyone here give me their opinion on cold welding? Thinking of buying my first welder . It’s in the same price range .
