- After years in development, ABC's senior citizen spinoff of "The Bachelor" is finally underway -- and Variety has the first interview with the leading man himself since production has begun.
Still weeks away from "The Golden Bachelor" premiere this fall, Gerry Turner, a 71-year-old grandpa from Indiana, is currently filming his season at "The Bachelor" mansion in Los Angeles, Calif., in hopes of finding love later in life.

I have enormous respect for him when he said the ideal age range is 60-70. I'm sure producers will push the envelope on it, but Gerry is the real deal, wholesome, and has his priorities in order. He desires someone with equal amount of wisdom and life experience.
I'll watch when one of those gorgeous ladies is the Bachelorette and has men eleven years younger to four years older vying for HER attentions. That means the 60 year old will be courted by men 49-64 year old, and the 75 year old will be courted by men ages 64-79.

He is the full package. His attitude, articulate manner, and positivity just sparkles. I know he will have a positive impact on, but it looks like to date after 60 and that love and happiness is entirely possible after loss of your long-term spouse. I will be watching for sure.

He's going to be great. You know my grandfather was married to my grandmother for 49 years before died of lung cancer. He loved her and felt so alone after. He was 75 when she died and he remarried a year and half later. He needed the companionship. He still had a picture of my grandmother next to his bed and in his wallet. My grandfather lived to 95 and passed away in 2019. I will say at 11 years old, I was upset when he remarried, but now as adult I understand. Gerry's love for his wife is strong and real, but he still young. He could live another 25 years. Having that person just enjoy life with will be good for him. Hoping he finds love.

Honestly I haven’t been excited for the Bachelor in a really long time,and no bachelor/bachelorette has ever been able to make me tear up or cry no matter how romantic the proposal is (just always seemed phony to me)…but after watching Gerry’s promos and interviews, I am SO incredibly excited for this season!!!! Finally a normal mature man who’s not there to play tonsil hockey with all the women! And not only that, but Gerry’s story about Toni and how he got so emotional regarding his wife’s death made me fucking CRY. Jesus Christ, we need to protect this man at all costs, and I sincerely hope that he finds that special lady❤

Being 61 myself, I'm looking forward to seeing Gerry's love life play out. I hope there'll be a lot less drama than the younger set, and that he'll find a real "down to earth" gal he can find something deep with. I also hope he'll be able to not compare his new love interest to his long time love/marriage. This will definitely be a brand new uncharted path for him. I'm enamored with him already. I do not agree with you! Go back and read what Gerry is lacking and wanting. A woman of 40 is not going to understand the kind of love Gerry is seeking. Especially when a man has lost a wonderful wife of 43 yrs. to a horrible illness! I so wish I was one of the candidates. Problem is - Gerry is not my faith. Most likely! @@janlevine2707 Yes that was a cruel thing to say. Those old women are just there on the show for a little bit of fame and attention they think they’re entitled to. There comes a time when a person must accept that they will never find love because of the choices they made. Besides, who would want to look at those old wrinkled bodies anyway. Cruel enough?
