Such an elegant design, thank you so much for sharing! For anyone using 2mm cords instead, I just completed this project with 6 cords of 2mm. By the end of it, the shortest remaining extra string was about 15cm. So I guess if you're using 2mm cords, you can start with 6 cords of 300 - (2*15) = 270cm.

I've done it with DMC Nova Vita 12 recycled Cotton (~ 6 mm) and my pentagone is 22 cm wide, around 15 cm each side so quite big for a coaster. It really easy to do.
As I wanted to be sure I had enough length, I used 6 meter cord and I can advice you that you will use for the longest at least 4,75 m. You won't use the same length for each cord at the end. I guess you can make the coaster smaller with only 5 strings.
    Hope it will help you.

I used Bobbiny 5mm Cord for a bigger one. So i cutted 6x450cm ropes. Final size ist 13,5cm per Side, 21cm diagonal.

I absolutely love this design but I only had 4mm on hand so I should have lengthened the measurements but I’m still rookie and learning from my own mistakes !! I will try again !!! Thank you for sharing ❤️
I made three part triangle and glue together and made a small bowl because I didn’t have the heart to take apart !

Hi, I made it. It's not perfect, and it's not a coaster size because I only had 5mm cotton not 3. But it was a trial. As I reached the end of the 2nd part, I had to add another length. Some asked about making a plate size, will that's what I ended up with. I reckon on another 1500cm to your orginial length if using 5mm thick cord. Just to be on the safe side. But you could probably give a better measurement if advising on the length required.

Hi, thank you for sharing it♥️ if you use 5mm cord, I always recommend taking at least 1,5 times the length for 3mm cord, that is, the current length should be multiplied by 1.5.

A few questions a questions.. Do you treat them after you’re finished? Or spray them with anything? Do they hold well with hot drinks and cold drinks?
I want to make these for a few friends but I wasn’t sure about heat and getting wet.
    Thanks so much! Love it!

Hi, Michelle! macrame made in this technique is very dense, it holds its shape very well. I do not treat them with anything, they are the same in functionality as cork coasters for example🤗

This pattern is impossible to fit five triangles in this piece. I fit four and tried five but there was no way. I don’t know how you fit five in there

We tried to make per the instructions mentioned, however we ended up with square instead of Pentagon. Can you please suggest what needs to take care while making it so that our end result will be with Pentagon.

Same here, definitely something missing in the tutorial! Ended up with a square trivet, actually 2 of them because I tried the pattern twice with both synthetic and cotton cords and had the same results.

I'm currently working on making one of these. Just completed the second section and it looks like I'm on track to make it a square also. If you look closely at the corners in the tutorial, they are slightly more than 90°, which may be the issue. Mine first corner turned out exactly 90° and 4 corners like that will obviously make a square. I'm going to undo part of it and try to fix that corner issue. As I make the rows, I'm going to make each row just a hair narrower than the one before it, that way as I get down to the point, the edge isn't perfectly straight. It will be on a bit of an angle like this > /

I'm not sure what I did wrong but I could only make a square? There's no space for a 5th triangle...

I keep trying to make this with 4mm cord but I keep making squares haha, is there a way to making this with 4mm - if so do you have any tricks?! I lengthened the measurements and also tried tightening my knots as best as I could but it seems like I will never have enough room for a 5th section.

I had the same problem, but I think I cracked it. Ever row, take one of the middle cords and do a half hitch instead of a double half hitch, that way it angles slightly and you get the pentagon shape :)
