Hello.
I commissioned this piece, so I thought I’d clarify the themes expressed in it.
*1) Wonder:* She sees more than anyone on the planet. So many possible future paths - an endless vista of information. She can even just ask to know the answer to any question and get it. Her perception of reality is just fundamentally different than anyone else’s, due to her unparalleled sixth sense. Her sweeping vision of all the possible futures is the first theme. The synth notes against the ethereal background are the possible future timelines she perceives.
*2) Victory:* Locking onto a specific vision of the future, she *will* make it come about. Struggle and rail against it all you will, everything you will or can do has already been taken into account and a Path around you or *through* you will be realized. Her success is as assured as the sun rising next morning. Inevitable victory, against any odds, is the second theme. The music ramps up from clairvoyance, transitioning into victory as she moves from perceiving the future to making her chosen one come about in reality.
My thanks again to Annexias, who is not only a brilliant and talented musician, she has the patience of a saint as we’ve gone back and forth on this over the last few weeks. I am Contessa’s #1 Fangirl ™, so I wanted this to be *just right*.
And I know Annexias needs a break now. :-)
Happy 10 Year Anniversary of Worm!
I don’t post on RUclips much, but I just wanted to say this also fits her fight against Eden in her interlude AND her chronological character arc through Worm! The background is either Eden or Zion, and the foreground is her Path; emerging, growing, becoming more troubled and imperfect, ending, and then a new Path starting again.
Well you got your own future timeline right it seems!

One of my favourite worm theories:
When a distraught Scion saw Eden in Oliver and lost hope, he asked PtV: “how do I make the pain stop?”
The path being to keep still, and let them kill you.

@@diegorodriguez8006 This isn't quite true, in Ward we see that Dinah's power, for all that she's the least intuitive of the Big Three precogs, knocks out the other two for a while as her Thinking fucks with theirs. I'm assuming it applies to Fortuna, because it applies to Simmy.

@@pladderisawesome Tessa is able to path under the assumption that they are an entity with x power rather than the entity itself which effectively cuts out the clash for her.
Say what you will about Contessa, but don't deny that she's sharply dressed.

You can almost feel the steps along the path as she takes them, moving from a slowly walking start as she acknowledges her new way of living life to the eventually unstoppable run along a path designed for her alone.
Kinda sounds like a theme for a bad ending of a game. Also reminds me of one of the last arcs, when Fortuna talked with Khepri
Well any fight with Scion would never end in a "good" way. Hell, they didn't even know if they could fight Scion and win, Contests was using her power in hopes of it helping her build an army to fight Scion, but never considered if that plan was flawed from the beginning.
In the, they won... At the cost of trillions of lives and several different earth's.

Fortune's Child indeed is the kind of being that, if even she cannot see a way to save the world... why try? Yet she did try. Anything and EVERYTHING for the path. In the end... I think she was as much her Shard as Khepri was.

I’m sad I didn’t know about this soundtrack while I was reading Worm. A shame I can’t path to time travel. I think that Khepri needs a standalone song from Taylor Hebert. Something Cold and unfeeling at first that evolves to show Khepri as a clinical conductor of sorts, that finishes with some kind of haunting broken flute solo, for Annette’s flute and Khepri’s final moments of existence. Dunno how that would all sound though. I’m not good with music.

I would have the flute solo be a reprise of Necessity. A simple broken tune of hope from a broken flute (maybe have it be in a different key or something I don’t know)

To me, this song sounds tragic, and fittingly so. Contessa's story is tragic. A girl torn out of any semblance of normal life by something she couldn't even imagine, given a ridiculous amount of power and the responsibility to use it to avert a catastrophe; but despite her power, she cannot avert that catastrophe without making horrific sacrifices. The power takes over her mind until she is no longer her own person.

Parts of this (mostly the piano, I think? I'm bad with instruments.) really remind me of Necessity which, intentional or seems to stress the numerous parallels between Taylor's journey and Cauldron's. I always love seeing a new post from you, great job, and thanks for continuously providing the community such stellar content.
1:45 is so fucking good, the way the music gives this feeling of speeding up and then slowing down always gives me shivers.
Contessa would be a great main character for a one punch man style story about finding meaning in a world on easy mode

there's an odd melancholy here that fits Contessa's character so well
Stumbled over the webseries by accident a few months ago and finished it very quickly. I've read a lot of books in my live but I've never been able to emphazise so much with a main protagonist and the side characters (including Contessa of course) are all so intruiging and amazingly written. The last Time I couldn't stop thinking about a novel every time of the day was back in my youth when I enjoyed Tolkiens Lord of the Rings. I'm so enthralled by this fandom.

Defiantly has Metroid vibes to it. The lonely path to victory. Much like Samus is constantly moving forward even if there is no one who can follow.
The slow start followed by the frantic pursuit then the steady beat as the song gets its rithym going. You did a great job with this one.

The first minute managed to send chills through my damn ribcage. How one manages that is beyond me, but you managed.
And then the whole track is just... Sad.
I don't have any other way to describe this one! It's just a bass that vibrates my soul through synth and then suddenly I'm crying.

huh, going to admit i think i love your composing style, like i know next to nothing about contessa other than her general existence, my knowledge of world is what ive gathered from reading several fanfics like queen of the swarm. but, this has really hit.
i know the comment said that the theme was meant to show that unstoppable path to victory and without even reading it i could already tell that was the case.
that rhythmic beating gradually speeding up as everything increases around it is just so good and 'feels' like something that wont be stopped.
i know your busy and that you don't upload these often but i do hope that you wont fully stop for a while. checked out a few of these before this with this being my favourite, to be blunt i am amazed, and i do truly hope you are all good.
The destination was so important that the journey there was wrought with tragedy, ruin, and pain. Victory but at great cost.

I think I would have started with something stronger, the moment contessa is here, it's over you death, or saved. And maybe some random dramatic note, to reflect the fact that she do kill people at "random" time on the other side of the planet.

This is probably the best one yet, in my opinion at least. If I may, what character do you plan to do next?
No idea, it'll depend on what I get commissioned on, I think. The first person to get back to me was interested in me making a Worm x Division crossover fanfic theme, so probably that!
I always liked Contessa as a character. She does her best with the situation at hand. Ignore Ward it was a fever dream Contessa had after eating a moldy loaf of bread on accident. It did not exist. Contessa getting captured by an over-glorified power thief? The clash between Parahumans and normal people? Every natural trigger a potential end-bringer? Amy a sympathetic character? Truly demented and unnecessary ideas have no place in the reality of Worm. Best completely reject it.
Our lass is alive and well in the Bahamas with Number Man. Not killed by a dimensional crack and her soul trapped in an Eden Wannabee Endbringer who wants to contact Daddy Abaddon by etching SOS signals in the shard space. No sir!
The only problem I have with Contessa is that she is not real.
How do you defeat someone with PtV?

You have to make it so that their definition of victory is one that lets you see tomorrow. "Make it stop hurting" for example...
