  • So here's a video of a laptop I picked up a few days ago, a Lenovo ThinkPad T410s. I got this on eBay for $100 while I was just browsing for random laptops on eBay to see if there were any good deals, and since I saw this I thought I;d get it since it's not a bad deal in my opinion. I plan on giving this to my mother as a Mother's Day present in May since she's been using my old ThinkPad R61 as her PC, and since that computer is big, heavy, has shit battery life and is generally old, I thought that this will solve all those problems.
    The specs of this machine are an Intel Core i5 520M @ 2.40 GHz, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 250GB 5400RPM 1.8" HDD, Intel HD Graphics and a 14" 1440x900 screen.
    I hope you enjoyed this video and let me know what you thought of it, thanks.

    I'm still using my t410s (I'm writing this on it). My screen had issue (known) got some from ebay ($50) and works like new. I'm using bay battery and I can use it for about 6h :). Great laptop. I have SSD and 8 GB ram. SSD is amazing with this laptop.

      Do you feel your machine is notably faster with 4 vs. eight gb ram??

    Great Video, I'm getting this for programming and i was just wondering if it would be good for Linux (Zorin OS 12)
    Except I'm getting the T410 not the T410s and it has the same specs.
    Would it be good for Linux?

      With thinkpads the answer is always linux

      Well I mean I prefer windows but that's me, Linux cant do what I want, its not developed far enough.

    Lenovo didn't release power management for Win8.1+, sadly win 10 kinda sucks on T410/x201 due to that. Also the GPU drivers aren't really supported. Well, as long as she only uses it on her desk she should be more than fine.
    Nice pickup man.

      +Tomasz Żubertowski She rarely uses her computer on battery power, however I do want to give her the freedom to use it for more than 20 minutes off of the charger once in a while since she does sometimes want to take it somewhere if she's working on something (she loves to cook (that's not sexist by the way, she actually does like cooking), so being able to use it in the kitchen for recopies and stuff like that would be nice.).

    There are actually SSDs that use the 1.8" form factor, but all of the ones that I find are OEM units. If you were to get an SSD for that laptop, you'd most likely be looking at a used drive.

    Thinkpads are my favorite laptops. They are just durable and always stay the same so you dont have to adjust too that many new things. I just got 2 t430's and a t420 for $188 on ebay. I feel almost as if i ripped the sellers off.

      got mine yesterday for $50 on ebay. cause i wanted to use a older thinkpad for my daily driver browsing the web and all. and got a x201 as well for not much $70 which isnt bad. Got the rarer ultra low voltage cpu model for linux use.

    lenovo t410 is the sexiest laptop in my opinion. but you should upgrade the ram and hard drive

    • @EpicStrategyGamer
      @EpicStrategyGamer 7 лет назад

      its hard to upgrade 1.8 inchers as they arent made anymore. You can get either a 320gb HDD or a 512gb ssd for this if you want to spend 200+

    I wanted to ask about T 410s speakers because i just bought it today and i found that there are two speakers designed on both left and right side of speakers but only left speaker is working because sound is not coming from the right one.
    So the question is that if only one speaker is operational in T410s and the other one is just for the design?

    • @anned8634
      @anned8634 3 года назад

      You have to go into the speaker controls and set the balance between the speakers. Someone has set it, so only one speaker is working.

      its been so long since i used a lenovo with windows i had to look it up.
      i run linux 20.1

    your power cord plugs are soo much bigger than the US ones, we have 2 main ones the Type A which is the 2 prong one that is used for i think up to 240 then the 3 prong grounded Type B prong that we use for anything that draws a larger bit of power, then we also have a weird one that is for appliances i think its called type C

    Great video!
    I also have a T410s and I use it as my main machine. I really like it. I have the i5 560M model with 2.67GHz. I'm running Windows 8.1 on it because I had weird issues with Bluetooth in Windows 10. About the hard drive, I'm not very lucky, because the machine has a 120GB hard drive, and I did some research, these are called micro SATA (not mSATA) hard drives and they are not that rare. But they are rare enough so it is hard to find a replacement. By the way, fingerprint reader works out of the box in Windows 8.1 as well...
    UPDATE: www.ebay.com/bhp/micro-sata-ssd Here are some micro SATA SSDs. They are not that expensive.
    Haha, forgot to mention, my machine also has three cracks on the palmrest, nearly in the same places...

      +Jēkabs Krūmiņš Ah ok, well at least it's a standard rather than some proprietary bullshit that I thought it might have been. At least I know there's an upgrade path if I choose to upgrade it an SSD sometime in the future. Thanks for making me aware of this.
      Yeah the fingerprint reader worked out of the box on 8.1 when I had that on my T420, however since Windows 10 has the Windows Hello stuff built in it doesn't require the third party Lenovo software to be installed to use it. 8.1 and previous versions needed that in order to use it, I like how 10 doesn't require such software and embraces extra security measures unlike previous versions which only let you use a simple password or PIN code out of the box.

      +Jack Stavris I've seen these drives in some 12" HP laptops which we took out of service at work. I had been replacing them with mSATA SSDs using a cheap adapter to convert them to this smaller SATA interface. Works well!

      @EpicStrategyGamer 7 лет назад

      ty for the ssd adapter, link. I got a adapter that fits m.2 so i can toss my spare 512gb m.2 into it.
