Interesting place, Mark- often called "The Adults Disneyland". I haven't been back since 1980 but from what I've seen it sure keeps getting bigger. My son & daughter fly to LA from Sydney in late February, where they are meeting up with an American friend & going to Las Vegas to watch their rugby league team, the Brisbane Broncos play in a football double-header at the new Allegiant Stadium. From there they fly to NY for a week - wish I was going too!
We love Vegas for all sorts of reasons. My arithmetic is too good to gamble, but we love the desert, the easy life there and the restaurants and leisure scene are all great. They are really pushing the city now as a sports venue, and hence things like rugby games. I watched a live rugby 7s tourney there a few years ago. Hope they have a great time.
