Yes for sure. We salted the cape back at camp after eyes, ears, lips and nose were turned properly and the rest of the cape was fleshed. Salting prior to any of those steps is the incorrect way and can ruin the cape! It also helped that we had extremely cold weather.

A tip for you guys to is after you guys are done caping it, putting salt on the meat side of the cape helps to keep it from spoiling.
