“Maintaining everything that made them jungle boots” they’re missing pretty much everything that made them jungle boots, they’re missing the insole, pump system, they’re missing the lightweight canvas upper with leather where necessary, they’re just green and black nicks at this point
The canvas and drain holes are what made the jungle boots what they are. Also since this technically is a tactical boot shouldn’t the weather shield leather be used?
I wore jungle boots in the service, I get them used and new wear around 10 to 25 bucks have 4 pairs. This thing is so stupid. Rose anvil has said and made a lot of garbage.
damn i was hoping this would be my first pair of NDs. unfortunately they are completely dissimilar to the jungle boots. you should've kept the canvas, water vents, and the super deep aggressive treads.
Agreed. It should have canvas panels and drain holes to actually pay homage to the jungle boot and add a boot for warmer climates to the ND series. Also, the black leather should be weathershield for the sake of resilience when wet.
for the ND5 you should do a community design competition, given its a special anniversary and this would be a way to thank both fans+supporters of Rose Anvil and Nicks Boots
I think what makes the jungle boot special is the innovations for using it in wet, hot and humid environments. There's nothing very visually appealing about the boot, so to just make it sort of look like the jungle boot without any of the features that make it a jungle boot, it kind of defeats the purpose.
I would not call it a jungle boot. Buy the amount of leather surrounding the boot, with no Nylon or Vent holes. you are making the same mistake designers did on ww2.
I'm sorry buddy but these just ain't right...go back to the drawing board, use canvas instead of leather, add drain holes and maybe swap the sole for an early Vietnam pattern or late war Panama sole....I prefer the early version myself. Listen to your fans man, thats all I can say.
A pair of OD green jungles, once broken in, some of the most comfortable boots I ever had. Easy to stitch up, easy to redo the leather in the barracks, cheap to get re-soled, and the drain holes exist for a reason.
You should give the tie-down strap the classic Jungle boot stitch pattern with stitches on the sides and down the middle, and keep the leather tiedown straight instead of curved. What you really should do is use canvas but I'm pretty sure nicks doesn't do mixed media.
When the title states it's the "ultimate jungle boot", you would expect the features of what makes a jungle boot a jungle boot, or better alternative to it. But it is only colored like a jungle boot, on an All leather boot and the people getting it are only getting for a fashion statement. (Even tho a pair of mcraes are a 3/4's cheaper and ARE the original Jungle boots.) But I see now why he did the title like that. It's a simple rage bait, to get people "interested" to buy some overpriced boots.
I think the boots would look significantly better without the lineman's patch. The lines of them are fantastic and the difference in the color and texture reflect the difference between the canvas and leather of the originals. Would be super cool without.
As a Police Officer, I would love these in all black (all patrol boots must be black at my department). Heck, id probably buy a few to last me the rest of my career!
Nd 6 should go for a jump boot inspired boots Should go for a modern panama like sole Go for a double layer cordura fabric instead of that leather Put a drain hole in it.
Definitely keep the green on the lineman patch! These are sick. I understand why people think a full leather jungle boot without vents might not be true to the original, but to me these are amazing and over the long haul will last longer than any jungle boot built to "spec".
Black patch! And please go for the VIBRAM PANAMA II Multigrip outsole in black (as mentioned see JCB by Belleville), surely Vibram would supply Nicks with them right?!
In the box the green patch looked sick, but I think the black patch looks better while wearing them. I've been breaking in my smugs. They get more comfortable with each wear.
Used Angelus black to dye some old, used, new-to-me brown Redwing logger boots. Prep is key. Several applications to make it deep/rich, let dry, then liquid mink oil until it won;t take any more. Oh, sweet "jungle" boots. You may not know, being in the northwest, but the jungle boots have the nylon/cordura bits to help dissipate heat. Replacing the nylon with leather kinda defeats the purpose.
Here's my idea. Black or brown captoe vamp with a green full canvas double buckle shaft. (Search Okinawa boot for reference) Then either a deep lug sole OR a smooth half sole like on the jump boots. It would (in my opinion) mix very well three different boots from 30 years of military history.
I love the look, but as I hike in swamps.....you need the drain holes and Panama soles are VERY useful. What happens to the inside of this boot when water gets in - and in a jungle, it would? I see a bad case of trench foot waiting to happen. I hate it, because you got the look down and Nicks makes great boots.
I don’t care what some people are saying, I’m in. I just purchased a pair of HotShot’s in Bison but I haven’t worn jungle boots since we phased them out of the Marine Corps in the early 2000’s - looking forward to picking up a pair of these monsters too.
As a retired combat veteran, I can say that is in no way, shape or form a "jungle boot" the whole purpose of jungle boots was so the solider would not get foot rot in high humidity, like the kind you would find in Vietnam. Wheres the canvas or breathers?. Secondly, it was supposed to be lighter in weight for a reason, hence the limited use of leather. There is no way in hell a person could do a 15 mile ruck march in those feet yachts.
RETURN THE ND'S TO THEIR ORIGINAL GLORY. KEEP EVERYTHING EXACTLY THE SAME ABOUT THE ND1, JUST ADD THE GREEN JUNGLE BOOT CANVAS (NOT LEATHER), BOOM A MASTERPIECE ND"5"! A thousand brush strokes can create a masterpiece, and only one can destroy it.
So ... this is a style piece. Styled after a Jungle boot while being made like a Nicks Tactical Boot. Not gonna lie, Happy to have been fortunate enough to get a pair of ND3s last year. I hope others enjoy this one.
As a Marine who wore jungle boots pretty much every day for 5 years in the Marines. These look cool, but not a jungle boot. I bought the ND3, and they are extremely comfortable. But, I think these would be much better with a high quality canvas or Kevlar upper to be light like a jungle boot. So, I think this ND boot is a pass for me. If it was a lighter material for the upper and more like a jungle boot I would probably buy a pair.
I can't afford a pair of ND series either way even though I have a pair of jungle boots, but I love how the V3 looks! The patch really does make it special, and maybe a darker shade of green will look good as well. I agree with the others that it probably shouldn't be straight up called a jungle boot tho. A "jungle boot-style" boot will be a much better description.
I really like your boots. I just wish you used the NATO speed hook or USGI speedlace loop (same thing) that are seen on a lot of military boots. They make lacing your boots very quick. More than traditional speed hooks.
these look like they will fall apart sooner than previous versions. seeing the bends/creases in the leather along with the big gap in elevation between the green leather and black leather strap makes those straps lool like a huge stress point for wear and catching brush/debris. these will undoubtedly show to need repairs sooner than the nd3s which makes me wonder why they are the newer gen in the same line of boots.
I love those V2s with the black window. If those came out I think I might have had to try and pick them up. That green I just don't think is for me though
I really wanted a pair of nicks or jk's. I ended up getting a pair of iron rangers and origin boots in 1/20th of the time. I might order a pair now so I can jave them by the time the other two pairs wear out.
I was not expecting this design at all, it ended up looking fantastic! I love the spin on the classic jungle boot and I'm looking forward to the final product/video!
Previous comments says it all: no drain holes, no canvas (linen or cotton or nylon), no panama sole... These are not jungle boots. These boots will cause "trench foot" syndrom if you wear them in jungle-like environment. These boots are just a gimmick.
Id kill for a 1968 spike black/green jungle boot made today in a size 12R. Addison brand would be my go to reference. I've worn 4 pairs out in the 15 years i've had them. Contact me if its at all possible as its a real thing id love to see made close to the original as possible but a bit more modren.
I dont know why but in certain shots of the video, the green looks brown. I think that looks 100 times better than green. Definitely go with black patch and soles. I miss the nd1 and 3.
Like the look, but must agree the areas with color would be nice to be in canvas and breather holes . Question does it have a wide toe box , for a yeti like me
Weston, long time viewer here. I wanted to say I think you are making a mistake with this one. I agree with what other people are saying, and to pay a true tribute to the jungle boots you should make some changes. Replace all of the green leather section with a condura canvas type material, include drainage holes of some type, and have the black leather treated with weather shield or some sort of weather resistance application. Otherwise I think it will be difficult to sell these boots as they currently are. Wishing you the best 👍👍 Also, please start the Japanese WW2 Boot collaboration as soon as you can, thanks! 😂
I'm so confused, is the purpose of this boot just easy break-in while only looking like a jungle boot??? I thought the ND series was supposed to be "the ultimate apocalypse boot" like the ND1 was? Speaking of which, please bring back the ND1
Or the ND2, it achieved the same goal, after that he’s pretty much just been trying to take the indestructible out of his indestructible boots to make them easy break in or whatever, exact same reason I don’t like the bearslayers (aka JK OT) because they’re taking out the heavy duty, thats the whole point of PNW boots
