      @@ScotlandHistoryTours Hi Bruce. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to my every comment. I would love to see you live; in fact I danced on stage at the Sunderland Empire Theatre in the 60’s to Jimmy Shand and his band when someone toured with, would you believe, a slide show entitled ‘This is Scotland’. I may actually have a little cartoon booklet which accompanied it hidden away somewhere. It’s a bit of a cheek to ask but, if I travel the 434 round trip could I buy you lunch or a at least a drink? Regards Ray 🌞

    Nothing's changed after all this time, Scottish Tories still do what their English overlords tell them.
    My ancestors were Flemish merchants who held out to the last man (obviously great, great, great.... Grandaddy Yan was out collecting fleeces that day).
    Still handed down in the family's oral tradition, there are only a few hundred family members in the UK, may be more in Australia, Canada and USA.
    1296 is a date that is wedded to our family in infamy 🤔

      Hi George
      Just found this , according to my daughter in law their are 189 adults registered in Great Britain by the name of Futers and my lot make up 25 of them
      Hope your well and staying safe
      Dave Futers

    • @georgefuters7411
      @georgefuters7411 3 года назад

      @@davidfuters7152 interesting, I wonder if there's any De Futes left in Belgium and Netherlands. There's also Futters and Footers in Scotland who may be related and possibly Fettes.
      Our branch also has offshoots in Australia and Canada, probably needs someone younger with a lively curiosity to track it all down.
      Keep well

    • @scotttait2197
      @scotttait2197 3 года назад

      Interesting ... not trying to be funny but the term Futer (stop futering about) comes from where most entomology of words comes from family names

    • @georgefuters7411
      @georgefuters7411 3 года назад

      @@scotttait2197 Perhaps, but then again usage and meanings of words change over time, in the early 1500's the term was used in Scottish royal circles relating to the monarch's (James IV) interactions with one Marion De Futes.
      Yes I've suffered all the conceivable jibes for years, and had to spell out and respell my name virtually every time I'm on the phone, One advantage though is Hogmanay: I'm always the first Futers. (It's actally pronounced fewters, not footers!)

    I thought the accepted number was twenty thousand dead, and the high casuaties were caused by the bonus that Edward had promised. A penny a hand . The modern day metal detectors call these pennies 'Eddies'. A tiny silver penny that cost someone a hand , but most people were worth tuppence young or old. m

    Futile and brutal...doesn't seem much has changed over the centuries Bruce, just a new found way these days to belay the agony with government rather than sythes and pitch forks...not really a good way ether but I suppose aye?
