  • This CSX train in Nashville really threw me for a loop. I swore up and down it was a unit autorack train when I saw it, but then...it revealed it was two trains in one consist with a very nice lead power combo as well, as CSX 19, a low-numbered YN2 scheme leads CSX 4569 EMD SD70MACe northbound, traveling from Nashville, TN to Evansville, IN.

Today's catch from Nashville was an interesting one. A low-numbered YN2 CSX scheme leads EMD SD70MACe 4569 on a double unit train that we don't often see, headed to Evansville, IN. Take a look and let me know your thoughts here in the comments section.

Nice catch of the YN2 leader! The most interesting train I got to see was a double coal train that was going west on the Union Pacific Sedalia Subdivision back in 2021 prior to the Polar Vortex happening.

Liked the YN2s & MACe featured! NS 4005 is the lowest numbered C6M I’ve encountered, not to mention an ex BNSF Mac trailed with it.
    Greetings from Tennessee.

Hello, also from Tennessee. Middle Tennessee to be exact. You must be in Eastern TN to see that much NS AND BNSF power.

@DannyBTrainz Yes, East TN. I Railfan at the crossings in Powell. it’s mostly NS 278 & 279 I see, and sometimes RJ Corman. Usually UP, BNSF or any other foreign power is rare for me. I hope to Railfan other parts of the east one day.

@@AlikStansberry very nice. Since starting this channel, I’ve caught just one NS train. That was out at Emory Gap. In a few weeks, I’m going to go to the Tennessee-Chattanooga football game and then go down to Chattanooga to film the NS/CSX lines there.

That area was a lot more fun in the 1950s when Amqui was a manned tower, part of the depot, with it's own control machine. After I could drive a car, I used to go out there when I could but alas, I was using a 8mm Brownie movie camera. Still have the film but I converted it to a group of DVDs some time ago. There was a small yard just south of Amqui and if memory serves me good after nearly 70 years, Amqui also control The junction where the line to Radnor swung off. When my uncle was still running freight (he was all passenger from 1946 on) my dad would take me to Shelby Park where we could see him cross the big viaduct headed to Louisville. And in those days the engine was real, a J-4, 2-8-2 most times. Bah diesels no fun in that. I have run them on the Southern during the numerous wildcat strikes they had in the long ago and you have to know the road, but the diesel will do all the rest if it is fed and maintained right.

Very cool to hear about this area’s past.
If you don’t mind, I’d be curious to know if there’s any way to showcase some of your old school footage on DVD in a “How it was” video about Amqui.
I think a lot of Nashville railfans could find it useful to see how things were then compared to now.

Lowest unit I’ve seen is 74. And it wasn’t even on csx, it was on NS 38G, and 74 wasn’t leading, NS 4004 (1 of 4 sonic bonnets) was.
