Because of you I’ve spent the last 2 years slaving away in my garden installing 3 tall raised beds and 4 short, planting in containers, starting my own seeds, AND I’VE LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT! Thank you!
Thanks for responding I have what is called muck decomposing material and needs to keep from holding too much water and when drying turns rock hard
@@steveharris795 maybe something like perlite or vermiculite? I’m not sure about the muck. I have found when growing in containers, adding about a quarter native soil helps with preventing deficiencies. It’ll have most of the micronutrients they need.
I love watching Mark garden when its winter where i live ...
Fulfilled a dream to collab with you officially Mark! Cheers and appreciate you to EPIC levels - Kevin
Thanks Kevin! One day mate, we'll get this done in person and that will be even more fun! Cheers :)
When to of your favourite ‘tubers get together? Epic ! Now let’s get int it !
All the best Jules 👍
Love this between your crew Eric and mark. My two favourite gardening channels. I actually have a question. I’m located in Scarborough Ontario Canada and I was wondering if on my raised beds if I do the pvc hoop and 6 mill plastic will I be able to do a winter garden and what would be the best plants for that type of situation.
@@colettephilcox231 hi Colette, I’m from Quebec and was wondering the same. 👀👀 Hope we can
@@colettephilcox231 I planted a bunch of stuff out back that the packet said was frost resistant- you might wanna try extra hardy varieties like that for your cold frames! Lots of greens, carrots, detroit beets, snow peas, radishes, onions, chives, etc. you could probably do lots of good stuff! You should definitely try and experiment 🥰 I saw a reel recently where someone had gorgeous veg growing under cold frames and there was lots of snow! Just remember that for some things like the peas you might have to hand pollinate since it’s out of season for our friends.
Self Sufficient Me and Epic Gardening. Two of the best gardening channels in existence!!
They are the only ones I watch. They know their gardening.
We let our lettuce and potato go to seed two years back - haven't had to plant any since - sprouting like weeds all over the lawn and every random part of the garden. Is awesome.
How cool! 🥬🥔
@A R he he he - that would be superb. Turn the town 'green'
My potatoes started themselves this year. I had planned to relocate the bed, but they had other plans, haha! It's great! But, now the potato grow bags I purchased for this year are sitting empty. I might need to add another type of potato to them anyway. Just for fun!
I never get tired watching videos of your amazing garden.
Thank you Helen! Cheers :)
@@Selfsufficientme Hi Mark, just chasing up on a question I've asked. I've googled but no answers to find. Is bottle brush ok to use for fill in raised garden beds? Is there any tree branches or other organics that shouldnt be used as fill?
Thanks
Mark. Started watching your vids during 2020 lockdowns. Actively started growing veggies at the time. After almost 2years, my family is not buying any veggies anymore. Planting 2X 500m2 shade cloth tunnels, chickens, eggs and sheep. Added some cattle three months ago, also plowed 10ha for corn to be planted by Xmas. Great channel, great content. Greetings from a hot Namibia🤙
I was born & raised on a farm, thus gardening for about 30 yrs. Now I'm a frequent visitor to Farmers Markets~ But I just LOVE to watch your videos & I do get inspired! Thanks for ALL the SHARING you do; you're quite the "Positive Inspiration" guru as well as gardener~ Keep on being Mark, the Self Sufficient Me guru~ Thanks & Many Blessings to you & everyone who watches your videos~
Thanks Team! I really appreciate the time and effort all of you put into these collaboration videos and passing on the subtle truth (amongst many more) that maximizing your harvest begins with getting off your gluteus maximus. Cheers!
don't tell kevin but i'll always love your channel more
You've inspired me to get a raised bed and plant some veggies! Everything is starting to come up, I've ordered a bunch of fruit trees and I'm ready to.. get into it!
That’s amazing!
My daughter msg’d me earlier. “We’ve got beans!! And they taste like beans” Lol. Our first birdies raised bed adventure.
Awesome seeing your over at Marty’s Garden!
He's a good guy - Marty - we had a great time working on our video and in his garden. Cheers :)
I really enjoy watching your videos, coming from Minnesota US
G'day Everyone, go here to check out the sales shop.epicgardening.com/ and use SSME2020 for a 5% discount. To see Kevin's video for more tips go here ruclips.net/video/HKqNCjNAU6I/видео.html Thanks for your support! Cheers :)
Awesome having guest included!
Ohhhh I LOVE when you guys do collabs, my 2 garden heroes 😍😍😍😍
Thanks for the tip about cutting back damaged plants and letting them revive for a harvest later in the season.
Excellent advice! Love the pvc hoop over raised beds idea and swapping winter covering for shade cloth in the summer. Also, loved the pollinating with a toothbrush…I remember my dad doing that 40 years ago in our family garden :)
Love the toothbrush trick. We had "Mr Stacky" hydroponic systems that aren't that aaing for growing veg for the family in huge quantities so we're swapping them out for raised beds (which is what I wanted all along) and getting growing with veg for the family. I have leeks going to seed as we speak and the bees were dancing around them so probably won't need to use the toothbrush but I like it - it's good one!
Thanks Mark, Kevin and the whole team great video!
You are amazing! I learn so much from you! Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Finally built my 500 sq ft (46.5 sq meters )raised garden. More to come I hope. Thank you for showing me that I can do this and grow what I want. Thanks for your encouragement
Mark, your intros! LOL! You're the boss. Never miss an ep.
Late to the video but another great, thank you guys/gals. I've been maximizing all my lettuces, spinach, rocket, kales, pak Choi for weeks even when too much for my house to eat. I've invited close friends/neighbors to come help themselves for salads as they are helping me to prune, which is keeping us a much longer grow season. Not to mention they always contribute to my compost bins, wood ash, etc. Wins all around
Staggered planting lettuce extends harvest time the most for me. Easier than starting lettuce starts.
Hi Mark. I would like to thank you for inspiring me to start on my self sufficiency journey. Your videos have been instrumental in success with my vegetable garden. Mentally it has also helped me cope with the stresses of work, by experimenting with my plants. Keep up the wonderful work.
In summer I use the "All Year" lettuce in the Country Value brand bought from bunnings. It's a robust dark green lettuce that can be picked as leaves or as a heart lettuce. It grows in the Queensland summer but might need some shade cloth over it or a bit of a shady spot. I plant the seeds straight on the ground where they grow.
Thankyou for another wonderful vlog. You are doing a brilliant job.
The start to your videos is absolutely excellent you just get on with it! Too many people are having long introductions.
I was proper tripping out once I heard kevin jump in from epic gardening 😂😂 I’ve been watching both channels separately for a few months and then once I heard mark say “let’s head over to Kevin” I lost it, that’s a mad little collab boys ❤😂
Greetings from WA mate. Glad I finally found an Aussie grower worth watching.
Growers Love BU
I'm very curious as to how you create so many informative videos for so long without running out of material! Grateful of your constant effort!
The delightful women's hoop trick is certainly something I'll give a try
As a disabled Marine vet I've learned so much from both of your channels. Growing up as a city boy, I've noticed a my thumbs are turning a slight shade of green... Thanks for your inspiration and knowledge... Howdy from Texas... 🤠
Semper Fi my brother. Gardening for me is a stress reliever and help me cope.
@@BugRod64 Same here bro. "Idle hands find the devil's work" I'm the type of person that believes if there ain't something wrong, there's something wrong... 😆 Keeping focused and busy keeps the mind from wandering... Semper Fi 🇺🇲
Fantastic tip for harvesting hearting lettuce. They always rot in my garden. So, I'll be doing this. Thanks.
I live in Florida, USA which is the epicenter of difficult vegetable gardening, you are my favorite by far. The enthusiasm you display got me back into veg gardening after years of naught, Thank you Mark.
Great tips, thank you! Also, it's so nice to see my favourite gardening content creators, Self Sufficient Mark and Epic Kevin (and Chris and Jacques), working together like this. Love it.
I love this team up! Thanks Mark!
You are such an inspiration. I grew up on a farm, and I still learn so much from you. God bless and keep you.
Love it when two of my favourite RUclipsrs collaborate! Thanks for both this and the video on Epic Gardening.
great video, I never thought about manually pollinating, that blew my mind.
Me too. I never knew you could. This is good stuff.
I grow tomatoes in my south facing window in the winter and I have to use a toothbrush for pollination. My daughter teases me about getting it on with my tomatoes. What a hoot.
I don't get any cucs in the greenhouse if I don't!. That's how I learned. You have to get them the same day they open, so it's a daily task. My squash are a problem though, never got male and female flowers at the same time. Frustrating.
Love the collab with the epic team 😍 more more moooore
Mark, I understand why it's good to collaborate, but I love your solo videos! The more dad jokes the better! ;)
You have inspired me to grow more veg and enjoy gardening again! THANK YOU! 👍🏻
Great video keep it coming, love the collaboration!!! Love from NZ
Gardening never ends ❤️ Greetings from the East Texas Piney Woods 🤠🖐️👍❤️
Very good
I learned something new today. Thank you.
I follow both of your channels and this collaboration was awesome. Thank you all for your content ❤️
Loved the video. Was wondering how the Kitchen up grade is going? Hope well.
Thanks Mark. Your the greatest.
Thank you mark for inspiring people through out the year.
ive only just found your channel and ive watched so many of your videos and i giggle everytime you say lets get into it ... its such a good catch phrase
Jeez. Wish we were neighbors
Thank you both for all the wonderful information.
Thank you for your encouragement.
Thanks! Keep the info coming. I’m in zone 5.
Hello from sLOVEnia. I suport your work and vision.
Thank you for the video! Made my day so much better.
Thank you Wendy! All the best :)
Thanks guys...you're a Dynamic Duo
Looove the epic collab with Kevin😁
Great tips! Thanks 😊 Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your family. 😃

Great video again Mark.
Have a ripper mate!
I'll be sending you a letter this week!
That collab was epic love your work mark
Awesome 👍
Thanks Mark 👍
Thank you for your tips. Heading over to Kevin's site.
Great vid as always. Love it mate.
Love watching your videos when it's too cold to be outside here in Virginia. Thanks for the inspiration to rebuild my garden over the past few years.
Thank you Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. God bless you showing all your wisdom.
great tips about the lettuce..great tips about the beans too! I have tried2 find those big pegs for clamping plastic, but havent been able2 find them.🤔
Thank you ! 🙏👍
Thank you for being so informative. I’ve never done gardening. I believe we all should start before we starve. Hope and pray I develop green thumb.
Yay! My some of favorite gardeners in one video. I love these collabs!
Me too!
I live in a mediteranean climate, I grow , so far, stuff at any time rite though the year. Not a lot of tips out for this type of climate, but I have had a good harvest and a fairly consistent harvest for a starter garden. I over winter a lot of my veggies. Love your tips, thanks.
Mark, you're a contributing factor to saving my sanity and my life.
Nearly 2 years ago, I started with "PTSI Potatoes".
And then, the Algorithm was suggesting your vids.
It was/is good to hear the Aussie POV.
Hadn't realised how a humble vege patch would save my life.
Thanks 🙂🇦🇺
I never comment but you two are my favourite gardeners and i’ve learnt so much! ❤thanks for all the awesome content
Great video! Thanks!
I liked that Maximus joke at the end Russell, I mean Mark. 😉
One person showed how to regrow leeks with cutting off the root portion and replanting - but just cut off the leek and leave the rooted portion in the ground, and it will regrow an entire mature leek again !
Always love them videos…..
Glad you and Epic teamed up! Another good channel to check out would be Garden Like A Viking. Nate gives information on how to make your own fertilizers etc. We are about being self sufficient after all. Making our own plant food is always wise.
Anyhow, really appreciate you Mark. Love all the help we get from each of these channels for the different things you all offer.
Wow. Great info again. Learning lots here. 👏👏👏👍
Have a good one from Paulo & Kath GB
p.s. we watched this twice tonight. We do already just remove the outside leaves of the lettuce and found it just carries on growing more.
Actually found when we cut the lettuce stem, just below the leafage, it would could back pretty quickly but grew a longer stem before sprouting out!
G'day Mark, two weeks seems to go slow when I'm waiting for a catch up lol, great as always buddy, thanks for sharing 👍
Do you use seaweed in your garden? If so how? And if not, why?
Thanks for having a great channel
Great tips, as always. Than you Mark.
Thanks Mark, you’re tops 👏
Great video!! Thanks
i would love to see you do a video on how you store your produce after harvest.
I did the lettuce thing this year. Maybe 3 sq feet gave us more than we wanted to eat for weeks and weeks,
I cut them off at the root ball when they bolted, thinking they had finished and they sent new leafs up...
Great video, thanks mate
RUclips GARDENING CHANNEL CROSSOVERS!? I am officially hyped for 2023
I love the gardeners collaboration! Just ordered from Epic and thanks for the discount code too (every bit helps) 😊👍🏻
Here from the USA and Epic Gardening!
Yay! new video!
Great video!
Mate, I give your video a thumbs up before I watch the video, the content is always great, consistent, reliable!👍🏼love it! Keep up the good work 👍🏼
Good to see you, Mark! We have missed you. Now...Lettuce. 😏😏I have had no issues growing it, this fall. The issue I am having is it's bitter and no one will eat it...Tips? Tricks? HELP, that stuff is up to 4 bucks a head- and it's usually brown on the inside. 😛
I've only ever grown lettuce once back in high school and I fertilized (urea) my lettuce way more than everyone else and my lettuce looked great but were completely unedable and everyone else's lettuce were ok.. possibility over fertilizing is the problem
I had no idea you could cut and come again with head lettuce. Thanks for the tip!
