Amongst their weaponry are such diverse elements as Potence, Dominate, ruthless efficiency, and almost fanatical devotion for power! And nice, black uniforms
I would argue some Lasombra must have been more than delighted when they were ordered to stake their sires and bring their undead bodies in front of local Camarilla prince. Considering the standard policy for choosing potential child, there must be some bad blood between some sires and their child.
yeah, and all those sires who knew perfectly well their childs and always been 2 times more ruthless than they just got stake because of "reasons"... the first sniff of betray in the sabbat and specially in the lasombra and most of those child would get the final death before even open their mouths to explain themself..
@@allebas8705 Oh yeah, because convincing arguably the most territorial clan to leave it's territory is likely to happen. I'm saying lore wise, it doesn't make sense. Why would they abandon the Black Cathedral of Montreal? One of only three Black Cathedrals in existence, just as a single example. Nevermind how the removal of Auspex destroys the exploration for Kuldonic Sorcery as a clan art, and don't even get me started on fusing the old and new clans together. They butchered the lore because they didn't want to put content in the core book. Instead they wasted pages on drawings of fashion show rejects. The later supplements drip feeding the new stuff with a mix of repeated content from previous V5 books (check the lore sheets if you doubt me). It's a lazy cash grab, and I'm disgusted how far it's fallen since V20.
@@Abyssal86 well lore wise, you have a point and im not arguing that. I'm just saying that there are ways to go against the weakness. however, we have some news about the v5 sabbat book and not all sabbat went off to the middle east. many did, yes, but that is not the only way to "fight against the antedeluvians" as Justin achilli said in regards to the book. they're much smaller now, in part because so many went to the middle east, but also because of the SI. so they probably could stay in place. but eh whatever. I get that v5, especially the sabbat, are super controversial so eh. in regards to the v5 books LOL you're right on point. the corebook especially is a fucking mess and the anarch/camarilla books say a lot without actually saying anything at all. not to mention, like you said, the reused and repeated lore sheets. It has some cool concepts but it would have been nice if we got more content in the core itself over dangling small lore bits from other overpriced books.
I'm just amazed how in every clans video you look like a totally different person. Not only style but your whole demeanor changes. I cant even imagine how well you play your own characters. Kudos, Outstar, thanks for the guides!!
Please let any freakin' clan appear cause the game actually gets released. Looking like yet another Duke Nukem Forever/Vaporware situation. FFS I'm missing VTMB cause I don't have a PC that can run it anymore. If only I could get it to work on a raspberry pi.
And so we got to the Clan of Shadows. It will be very interesting to learn more about one of the darkest, in all respects, clans. We will look forward to more videos on the remaining clans. Especially I look forward to the analysis of the Tzimisce and Salubri. In the meantime, thank you very much for all the interesting information that you have already given us.
@@CosmicG777 I hope so. For example, it would also be incredibly interesting to hear about such a rarely mentioned, but no less interesting bloodline like the Children of Osiris.
@@CCgivemeawedgy Well, technically they can now be considered a lesser Clan. At least in terms of numbers. After the events of the Week of Nightmares, they are essentially an endangered species. But no matter what, they are still a very interesting Clan about which a lot can be told.
How tech-obsessed prince vampire finds lasombra: -Prince: Hey sherrif come here -Sherrif: yes boss? -P: I got blue screens of death every few minutes on my consoles and PC -S: So ? -P: LASOMBRA IS NEAR!
I fell in love with Lasombra the first time I came across them in the Sabbat book. Obtenebration is such a fun power and their interactions with technology have a lot of great opportunities for interesting gameplay.
Finally, my clan is given its chance in the limelight. Embraced after our dealings with the Sabbat had largely ended, I still have a lot to learn if I am to make sense of the vampire world of today, as well as Clan Lasombra's plans towards it. Edit: Outstar's cat is the most powerful Lasombra entity to walk the planet. Some say Lasombra himself saw the truth of Oblivion and chose this very form in response. As for "unusual" Lasombra? My character is a very odd one, normally he smiles a lot and has quite a joyous tone, but when the shadows begin forming to his will, although the smile persists, the aura and tone change to that of a monster so cold-hearted he gives the Tzimisce a run for their money.
I have a Lasombra Prince in a Private Story I'm running between me and my SO. She was picked because her mentality is *very* close to that of a Ventrue, or sometimes even Toreador-like, but underneath is a cruel darkness that contrasts her otherwise kind and seemingly sophisticated nature, having communed with Dark Spirits of the Abyss to make her seem of a Higher Generation (She is, infact, a Methuselah from just before the Fall of Rome, but pretends to be of a higher generation, in exchange for said dark dealings above.) She is surprisingly caring towards her Ghouls, Revenants, and Subordinates, but is also a bit corrupt, in that she acts outside of the Primogen council's orders by hiring Independents, and even Mages or Garou (though, only in the case of my SO's Character, for the last one.)
I love that classic "Vampires cast no reflection" lore with the Lasombra. Also hey, love to see you're uploading to RUclips again! What about a new let's play? Bloodrayne or Vampyr, etc?
@@rueisblue It's a bit overpriced for a text-based game but hey, there's nothing better to do with my money since Bloodlines 2 itself went into torpor lol. Also, I checked out some gameplay and heard the background music from Vampire Prelude: We eat blood and all our friends are dead (That's a long title) which I absolutely love!
I'm delighted to see another Outstar video! I hope the community remembers that we aren't owed content from creators and it is their own free choice whether they decide to make content or not. Also Outstar has put all the information she can share about Bloodlines 2 in her last video. She can't share any more so there's no point asking! No particular reason I'm putting this here... Just think it might become relevant...
A relationship with the content creator is a strange one because it's like a promise going two ways, but without clear rules. In that sense, Patreon is the most honest way to deal with it, where patrons can vote with the wallet and the creator must respond, but at the same time, it's the way for a creator to survive.
I’m really glad you keep doing these videos after the harsh times in the bloodlines development, and i thank you for the effort you put making them and also for making me and my friends interested in the world of darkness and inspiring us to learn to play the TRPG since last year until now.Keep on with the great work and thank you once more!
Playing V5 Lasombra can be very fun. My Lasombra girl is a mercenary for the Camarilla, and after she destroys some of her clan mates, she'll have the position of primogen in the domain. Thanks for the new video, great as always! Kitty Lasombra must be proud😄
As a Lasombra Kindred (a film noir detective from the 1940s), I appreciate the deep dive into the clan history. Regarding your bit about getting an insight into a different playstyle for the clan, I play my Lasombra as a grumpy old man who manages to feel his way across these new-fangled technology things using older technology which he'll know will work (flip phone with physical buttons vs touch screen, stripping out unnecessary tech from his car and only having one good CD that works, namely The Rat Pack: Live At The Sands since he loves Sinatra and was at that show when it originally happened) and relying on the younger members of the coterie - a Nosferatu and a Gangrel neonate - to do the more fancy tech stuff. Morte Ascendo.
A concept of Lasombra is: a dectective who recently lost his wife in a car crash was on a cold case, which he was getting close to discover the existence of kindred society. he was suddenly shut out of this case and demoted to a beatcop by his superior. he was embraced during a confession by a priest. his touchstone is his daughter, who is in froster care.
I'm so glad you finally got this one out! I was just picking up V5 when I found your clan videos, and you've been through so much (Good and bad) since then, it's crazy. I'm glad you're doing well, and finally got around to getting us the La Sombra video! It can be so hard to find a compilation of lore for the clans when you're new, and don't have the old books and knowledge.
I've been really looking forward to this. Even though I primarily see myself as Malkavian or Tremere, I very much identify with the Lasombra's Nietzschean philosophy. "That which does not kill you makes you stronger". My Lasombra characters are typically people who have survived the worst that life has to offer and they came out the otherside stronger for it. Victims of sexual assault, an abusive relationship, childhood abuse, or people who had a near-death experience, such as OD survivors, vehicular accident sole survivors, or veterans of violent wars. While these could be the backstory for any character, what makes them uniquely Lasombra is how they responded to these hardships; becoming more pragmatic and cold, rather than melancholy and traumatized. Becoming a stalwart individualist, rather than relying on others for emotional support and comfort. That's the main difference I see between Lasombra and, say, Malkavian characters. While potential Malkavians might react to trauma by escaping inward into their own psyches, Lasombra candidates harden themselves to the outside world, often developing that streak of Ruthlessness, but not always. Some may simply develop a renewed lust for life, living their life honestly and to the fullest, and may even be angered by receiving the Embrace, as it snuffed out the life they had, making them bitter and resentful of their sires. Long story short, I see Lasombra primarily as pragmatic, Darwinian, but above all Nietzschean. They have a lust for life, or unlife as it were, and any hardship that presents itself merely strengthens their resolve to come out the otherside stronger, wiser, and overall better.
Yes. For example, my Lasombra was a soldier that had lost his squad, his ability to walk, his sight, and soon his life but he was determined to hold the line no matter how many enemies he faced. He was made a Lasombra and his outlook on life was that God had saved him from destruction and has plans for him. Faith can be a powerful motivation. He's played like a paladin.
Outstar i have a question, if you dont mind. have you ever considered making videos about specific important people or concepts in Vampire? like, just for example, the story of Caine and how vampirism started? hope this doesnt seem pushy or anything I just like how you present the world
@@Outstarwalker That'd be cool. It'd be nice to have some vids that focuses on some focal VTM characters like Talley or Rafael de Corazon. And their shenanigans that affected the Vampire world in some way.
With the Lasombra and the Toreadors in the Camarilla, it reminds me of a land where different predators meet. If a mountain lion happens into an area where there are wolves (or vice versa) there is always a power struggle. Thank you for another excellent overview!
My favourite depiction was a Lasombra masquerading as a child of Haqim. The character was retired when he finally was adopted as a warrior cast. The story was filled with assassination plots, intrigue, infaltration, and mysteries to uncover. He was ruthless, used his discplines to ensure there were no traces of him ever existing in the area. The exceptions were rare rumours from local Nos or Tremere. Mostly because there were coterie members in those clans to help achieve the overall story arc. When domiate wasn't effective, it got really messy without evidence on how those incidents could occur. Man.. I wish I could replay that campain. That character was the most fun I ever had in an RPG.
@@NightshadeTS Yes and no. A secret is never forever. I was contracted out by the Tremere and the Nos most of the time. They only knew that I was effective and expensive. I ended up getting investigatted by the Tremere's sire early on but, the sire ended up getting found as an unsactioned diaberist. So.. the coterie member ended up as the advisor in magical stuff for the area as his sire was contracted for death by blood hunt. There were lots of stories like that for kindred who got too curious on my background. If you control the information that is going out, it takes more time to discover the rouse. I was really careful on my jobs until I felt poweful enough to try and win over a house of Hakim. The Banu Hakim only learned about me because of a contract that I took that they sent someone for. I befriended her and her sires by paying the price they set. Over years,.. I got adopted after I made lots of Nos, Tremere and Assamite allies. :D Many problems disappeared for them in that setting. I even took a couple jobs for the local Prince. It was a great fit.
I was an independant Lasombra who was thought to be dead after the sabbat were defeated in the city I was in. This was before they were defecting into the Camarilla.
My favorite Lasombra is being played by one of my players. His name is Asconti Vincenzio Viverti, a gay Catholic priest who for the most part is a helpful, friendly, wise, patient and very polite old man. He built a cult with his pack, in which they were perceived as being Archangels but did not abuse them, he was very attentive to their needs and safety (goes as far as to attack an Inquisition outpost to rescue a cultist). When dealing with someone he always listens and assists, a thing that has earned him the respect and favour of many. He does not abuse his powers and is very spiritual, clinging to it both as a last vestige of his humanity and as a meaningful lesson to pass on. When not studying, offering counsel or playing politics he either translates texts relating to Kindred lore or meets up with his lover Serghei (a ghoul masseur working at the hotel of the Archbishop). Though seemingly a saint, he is every bit or even more ruthless than his kin. From a figure of inspiration and virtue to a devil most wicked that would do anything to achieve his goals, my Asconti would give the Holy Inquisition a run for their money. The most epic moment that comes to mind was when his pack defected to the Camarilla (we were playing before the Lasombra joined). Under the cover of a smokescreen, he slowly walked while smiling towards four armed combatants (when they saw him they were really confused) he stopped for a moment saying a quote from the Bible, quickly drew his sword from his cane and slashed the neck of the one in his front. After that, he killed the rest in a masterful display, cleaned and sheated his blade. Then he proceed to torture and interrogate one of the survivors. Also, for a guy that was sworn to celibacy he was pretty active. Hell, he was more of a seducer and a lover than our Toreador fuckboy :)) For a guy that faced the horrors of World War II, the countless machinations of his sire (whom killed his brother among many) a setup by the Archbishop, a Blood Hunt and many other things, he was a pretty optimistic and hopeful man. In regards to humans he would treat them with respect and kindness, even donating money to charities. He still performed his duty at a church he built himself and was later on, recruited by a Tzimisce Inconnu (along his pack). When he was recruited by one of the Inconnu elders, he burned his church in order to stage his death. At his funeral, many members of the clergy, the local community, TV stations and people who received his help came to walk him to the grave. A very sweet, kind, respectful, polite and lovable old man that despite his Embrace tries his best to fulfill his duty as a priest even if in a darker and more of a twisted setting. Despite his demeanour, if one were to look deeper, one would see the scarred soul of a man tormented by his unending obsession in trying to understand his condition and the things he must do. An inner battle, waged between a faithful cleric and a devious vampire coming off as the very embodiment of a fallen saint. Despite all this dichotomy, he is the very definition of a Lasombra - a ruthless, power-hungry vampire whose primary concern is his own twisted "salvation". As time passed, I saw him turn from a sincere and saintly vampire to only a facade meant to deceive and attract the unwary. His subtle descent into darkness, coupled with his ever-growing desire for forbidden knowledge was one of the most interesting things I've witnessed as a ST. Mind you, this was the first time he ever played a pen&paper game, came with him on the spot. I am very proud of him. He gave our group many laughs, such as when he organised a romantic dinner with Serghei - he was more romantic than one would take him for but would quickly get embarrassed or when he saved books by summoning a shadow to carry them with him down the stairs - the building was burning (while an airstrike was in course) and he grabbed the books with his shadow and run, he almost died but even then, he did not give up. When the shadow disappeared, his Malkavian pack member came and he desperately convinced him to help him carry (much to the dismay of the Malkavian). He ultimately lost the books but did not lament the effort but the loss of the books. His whining about his burned church and lost cult was very amusing to watch. We had a blast! If I ever sought an ally among the Lasombra he would be my prime choice but I would never betray him for I have seen his cruel executions and wish not to experience it. I must say, I became more weary of priests after him :))) Love his character and execution. I only wish I do him justice of how a great a character he is. PS: Wish everyone a great week and happy pen&paper gaming.
I love these videos so much! I've never seen or understood clan Lasombra so well, and now I definitely would like to play it! Be it in Bloodlines2 or tabletop, nice. Thank you so much for your time and dedication for these videos!! ♡
Remarkable. Thank you for your thoughts on my favorite clan. I have been portraying a Lasombra since 1999, of the very conflict you have mentioned at the end of your video; one who is trying to retain his humanity despite the darkness within him that once was pertinent in his mortal life.
As of 5th edition they can have no reflection or be glitchy/misty/just "off". The effect is enough so that someone looking at a reflection will notice it, but a casual bystander will likely not.
@@jeffsblima The Obfuscate is psychological in nature thats why you can see them clearly on cameras. if they are more advanced you wont spot them either but you will notice a glitch effect on rewatch if you look close enough
This was fantastic! Sebastian, my Lasombre, was patterned loosely after Raymond Reddington from The Blacklist. He was ruthless when targeting someone and unapologetic about it. "Did you kill my family?" one target asked him. "Yes, now ask me WHY I did it" was his answer.
One of the first character ideas i had for a lasombra is a ruthless vampire vigilante. Think the punisher or red hood with shadow magic. I think it fits dark, ruthless and terrifying aesthetic of the lasombra without just making them straight up evil.
they were in the bloodlines unofficial patch plus - one with (okay) voice acting as part of a hidden quest from your emails, and one who was hanging out at the santa monica junkyard until you interrupt them
Thanks! This helps me a lot. I'm trying to play a Lasombra but ruthlessness isn't not in my wheelhouse as an player but I'm trying. It's good to push yourself into new areas of gaming!
Thank you for making these videos! I just came back to Vampire after a 19 year break, and it's a little much to get my head around all the lore and changes. Your videos do a lot to make the whole thing less daunting =D
Concept: Old style Angels Ater of the medieval Road of Night - a Catholic redeemer, torturing sinners in to forgiveness, in a perceived celestial war against Satan.
I had an idea for a lasombra that's part of the camarilla in which he turned his back on the sabbat due to their methods being short sighted in which he believes that they need to treat their unlife like a game of chess rather than outright rebellion/war, despite being a turn coat the sabbat are after them yet clan lasombra are still willing to meet and talk to him in a civilised setting to talk of him being a potential spy/agent specifying this isn't about the sabbat this is about your family/clan in which he's conflicted trying to play both sides to assure his own survival but even then he acts proficiently throughout his assigned tasks he's respected or feared it matters not but he's never trusted due to his clan however the camarilla finds his insight in sabbat tactics invaluable
I like V5, but I kept all the classic clan banes (if it ain't broke, don't fix it) and since I have a Lasombra character in my game, we kept classic Obtenebration. Obtenebration is only very powerful if you're not worried about humans seeing you conjure abyssal darkness. Any time you're trying to keep the masquerade intact Obtenebration is reduced to only a couple of more circumspect uses. In my experience Obtenebration can seem overpowered if the PC's are free to have an obviously supernatural fight. If they aren't fighting or aren't free to display powers, suddenly Obtenebration is usable for stealth and maybe a couple of other things, but most of the powers just aren't appropriate.
honestly, I only made it 6.5 mins into the video and so many things sound so completely wrong... I really loved the Lasombra Clan, their lore and their connection to the Abyss... but now I'm truly afraid to look up what V5 did to them.
I have been playing the BNS version of VtM as Lasombra Anarch. His ruthlessness is to continue preserving freedom by any means necessary. He also and old pirate veteran who yells at the younger anarchs like a grumpy grandpa.
What an amazing start for the video! I loved it! I definitely like the comparison of discipline layout between Lasombra and Ventrue. Indeed, it really shows the contrast of how Ventrue are more concerned with Embracing people who are already in positions of power and empowering them to be immovable from those small thrones, while Lasombra value the ability to climb up to that throne with sheer tenacity to begin with. Very different mentalities at play, and I simply adore it. I believe that back in V20 there were also some differences in how Ventrue and Lasombra implemented Dominate at higher levels. For example, a Ventrue might settle for making their Dominate commands almost impossible to overwrite with someone else's use of the discipline, while a Lasombra will instead impose a compulsion on a mortal servant that causes extreme pain whenever they try to disobey a certain directive. Don't quote me on this, I don't quite remember where I heard it. I have no sources, this is a rudderless ship we're sailing in. And finally, I LOVE the outfit for the video, and the color correction really helped enhance the bleak and spooky feeling of being close to the Abyss. Also, abyssal kitty is king, he's the ultimate servant of the Antediluvian and deserves all the pets. (Might actually be the Antediluvian themself in disguise, who knows?)
In my chronicle I made a lasombra npc who is clanless because his sire disowned him after he left the sabbat! Before he was embraced he was a ghoul that worked for his eventual sire for decades. Now that he’s on his own he works hard to earn back the humanity he feels like was stolen from him. It’s really interesting to have gentle and caring lasombras!
I played a lasombra posing as a ventrue in a camarilla game and had the whole city believing I was a elder ventrue and was a seneschal to a malkavian Prince 2nd time I played a lasombra was when I was a hitman/enforcer/ for the clan and went around making sure that all is well And there was many other times I have played la som bra
As a Lasombra Dark Knight i have destroyed many supernaturals, as a Lasombra Sage i have explored many realities and through all of it I have realised that the great beyond is coming to consume everything, the Abyss. What is the Abyss? All I can say is... It is the shadow out of time, It is the darkness of the unknown, It is the night encasing nightmares, It is the void of oblivion, It is the truth incomprehensible, It simply is. Who are the Lasombra? My clan bears many burdens, the burden of loneliness, failure, depression, suffering, horror and most of all emptiness. Kindred or kine humanity eventually dies in the wake of these burdens, thus it is difficult to find anything humane within clan Lasombra. But, To be Lasombra means to fight, strive, thrive and survive against all odds. To be Lasombra means to cultivate patience and an indomitable will even in despair. To be Lasombra means to achieve perfection in all things, for we are the worthiest of all kindred. To be Lasombra means to honor our word, for it is a testament to our loyalty. To be Lasombra means to gain power for power's sake, because the strong survive and the weak perish. To be Lasombra means to gaze into the Abyss and reemerge stronger, for the Abyss gazes back. To be Lasombra means to accept darkness, for we are the night.
I once played a Malkavian that diablerized a Lasombra. I got Obtenebration (it was way before V5) but my reflection in mirrors and image on cameras turned to black and white. Diablerie is a scary business.
Been having great fun playing my Lasombra Alastor Samuel Prior. Shovelheaded by the Sabbat, sparred by the Camarilla for his spy skills, he's worked his way up and earned a begrudging acceptance by working on the frontline for the Camarilla. Now onwards and upwards to the Justiciarate...
People laugh when they are told to be afraid of the Dark...Unless it's a Lasombra telling them to be afraid. Great Lasombra quote 'We are the things that go bump in the night"
I had a Lasombra character, named him Alexander, and had quite the fun time- the. I watched Shadow and Bone on Netflix and realized I had accidentally created a reflection less general kirregan who couldn’t stand bright lights. 😆 still playing him, and am enjoying it immensely, easily my favorite clan.
It's so cool now that I finally better understand the difference between your average Ventrue and Lasombra :O Imagine a chronicle on youtube/twitch where one coterie member is a Lasombra and another is a Ventrue and everyone is trying to improve their status... I'd need gigantic reserves of popcorn to watch that Thanks for sharing! :D
I must be stalked by a lasombra because technology really has it out for me. Really doesn't help that I work around complicated machinery in my day job.
can you active the auto-subtitles to this video to ? it's not perfect but i'am french and it helps me for some word or part of you're vidéo :) I don't understand everything but i love you're way to explain.
@@Outstarwalker For some reason this particular video of yours is kinda (more) difficult to hear/understand (at least for non-native English speaker like me) - there's some reverb I think. Lack of auto-subtitles is of no help ;-)
@@cthulpiss I have no idea why there are no automatically generated subtitles under this video yet, they're added usually within the first day after video's upload. I have no control over it, it's all YT robot :
@@Outstarwalker Sure thing. There's google's support article named "Use automatic captioning" What about manually adding those you're reading (?) from? I think it would help you reach more people.
I kind of like what you said around the end of the video about being a kind of unique Lasombra, not wanting to be so cold and ruthless and inhuman. My character I think would be focused on the yinyang symbol, she'd have a very strict belief about humanity and balance and she would fight really hard to remain gentle. There isn't light or dark without the other, she'd be constantly saying that either to herself or to people confused about why she is the way she is. (:
Kiasyd is my favorite bloodline in VTM. If I'm not playing a Kiasyd; I'm playing a Follower of Set, classic Lasombra, Malkavian (Ananke), Ravnos, Baali, or Samedi if possible. As you can probably tell, I'm heavily drawn to the magical/psuedo-magical clans. Although I'm not a fan of the Tremere. I also like the Healer Salubri, Tzimisce, and True Brujah. But they tend to be lesser personal picks for me.
I have myself been embrassed and was reborn within the clan Lasombra some time at the end of the 13th century. I survived, so far, the First and Second Inquisition, I was acquainted with Gratiano de Veronese and the Anarchs of old albeit, I did not take part in the somber events that went down in Sicily. I was present in Majorca and the Abbey of the Sacred Crown although my presence and the one of many others was never recorded. My memory of those events might be flawed, but the path I choose then helped me survive the _"Elder's Hunt"_ Mr. Jackson started within the Sabbat, an idea that ultimately reached the Old Continent. My decision to be what fledgling and thin-blooded would call an _"Antitribu"_ made me a prominent asset within the French Camarilla. I am now cloistered within the walls of my domain, I can hear it, calling me, reaching out almost as a command. The Beckoning. Resistance I am affraid is, for once on my part, futile.... Quentin, Duke of Rambouillet
so... Lasombra are the unstoppable force and Ventrue are the immovable object? loved the video, I found out after 16 years that I was actually Lasombra (thought I was Toreador until a few months ago) so how's that for an identity crisis
Lasombra's bane probably comes from being the personification of shadow, the absence of light and, more generally, electromagnetism. So their very presence fuck up anything having to do with electromagnetic waves.
Outstar, if it isn't too pushy, in the Tzimisce video could you talk about their spirituality? I love their view of self improvement and the concept of Azhi Dahaka. Love your work.
Outstar I hope you know I love your cat. Thanks for all the lore! Really curious about the Tzimisce video since I have a few issues with them in v5 (Vicissitude becoming an amalgam and losing the lore behind it, getting Dominate, losing Auspex, lack of focus on hospitality, stuff like that), and it'll be interesting to see your take on it!
One of my players was a child before turning into a lasombra.... So he played it as a lost soul within its coven. As he used his disciplines it was more on the loose side as he needed to survive or help the other survive.
I'm trying out a lasombra character who fought her death by cystic fibrosis until her last breaths, even searching for occult solutions. The chaplain of the hospital became my sire!
I never really got Lasombra, didn't understand why having no reflection was a bad thing, the few times that I had a Lasombra in a game I ran, she was more "Goth Venture" and not even that much of a Goth... So thank you so much for explaining it so well. I finally get it!
Hey Outstar, my friends and I are trying to play Vampire for the first time ever and your videos have been such a big help! Do you think you could do a video explaining Ghouls; what they are and how they work mechanically in V5?
So I've been thinking, in my home brew games I wanna give the lasombra back their original clan weakness, how before v20 cameras wouldn't see lasombra at all or in mirrors they are invisible. Because the way I see it (I have this conspiracy that the lasombra antediluvian deabirized a primordial/Malfean that had control over shadows) and autochthon/weaver also being a primordial either refuses to see his brother or is hiding his brother. Because autochthon/weaver is the god/primordial of technology the lasombra blood causes technology to refuse them or not recognize their existence. The only tech in my game that could see them (on occasion)would be that of hunter organizations influenced by the technocracy. Because the technocracy are mages that worship autochthon/weaver, and their tech would be specifically created for the task, and I'm pretty sure at that point the tech would have a weaver spirit in it to help with targeting, attacks against wyrm banes ect
And some evidence that their once was a primordial of darkness is in beast the primordial. Their is a line that describes what the primordials purpose was in the beginning of humanity. That line says that primordials are to tech lessons to humanity. fire is dangerous so their is a fire primordial that would reak havoc on humanity. That disease brings death another primordial would kill to prove that point, another lesson that early humans knew was to fear the darkness. and I think the lasombra antediluvian either filled their role after deablerizeing them, or what has been the case for deableri all too often is that the stronger sole survived and took control of the host. Meaning the leader of clan lasombra was possessed by a primordial god of darkness. And has been sent back to their domain were they are the strongest...oblivion
Lasombra are such a powerful symbol for being able to overcome hardship and unapologetically be yourself. In a dark, lonely way.
They ran away from their failure and accepted decimation to hide in the ivory tower. They're total losers.
Nobody expects the lasombra inquisition.
Amongst their weaponry are such diverse elements as Potence, Dominate, ruthless efficiency, and almost fanatical devotion for power! And nice, black uniforms
Lasombra? Never heard of them
Outstar holding her demon cat and talking in a Dracula accent are my own personal goals for when I'm 30/am a mom, whichever comes first
Omg, am I finally in the "auntie that is goals" phase, because I waited my whole life for this :')
@@darkcloud93 Just like how all the Sabbat Tzimisce went to the middle east, despite their clan weakness making a trip like that next to impossible.
@@Abyssal86 actually there are a lot of ways around that, both with the v5 bane and previous edition weaknesses

Please let the LaSombra clan appear as a playable clan in the Bloodlines 2 game as a dlc.
Let it be buggy due to their clan bane : ^)
Please let Bloodlines 2 come out first.

Bloodlines 2 will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever be released
Please let any freakin' clan appear cause the game actually gets released. Looking like yet another Duke Nukem Forever/Vaporware situation. FFS I'm missing VTMB cause I don't have a PC that can run it anymore. If only I could get it to work on a raspberry pi.
And so we got to the Clan of Shadows. It will be very interesting to learn more about one of the darkest, in all respects, clans.
We will look forward to more videos on the remaining clans. Especially I look forward to the analysis of the Tzimisce and Salubri.

How tech-obsessed prince vampire finds lasombra:
-Prince: Hey sherrif come here
-Sherrif: yes boss?
-P: I got blue screens of death every few minutes on my consoles and PC
-S: So ?
-P: LASOMBRA IS NEAR!
That looks like a script for a comic strip
I've been looking forward to this.
I fell in love with Lasombra the first time I came across them in the Sabbat book. Obtenebration is such a fun power and their interactions with technology have a lot of great opportunities for interesting gameplay.
Tzimisce soon I hope.
Also I'm charmed by the matching hair color/eye shadow
I'm a simple man : I see a Lasombra video so I press Like.
She was picked because her mentality is *very* close to that of a Ventrue, or sometimes even Toreador-like, but underneath is a cruel darkness that contrasts her otherwise kind and seemingly sophisticated nature, having communed with Dark Spirits of the Abyss to make her seem of a Higher Generation (She is, infact, a Methuselah from just before the Fall of Rome, but pretends to be of a higher generation, in exchange for said dark dealings above.)
She is surprisingly caring towards her Ghouls, Revenants, and Subordinates, but is also a bit corrupt, in that she acts outside of the Primogen council's orders by hiring Independents, and even Mages or Garou (though, only in the case of my SO's Character, for the last one.)
I love that classic "Vampires cast no reflection" lore with the Lasombra. Also hey, love to see you're uploading to RUclips again! What about a new let's play? Bloodrayne or Vampyr, etc?
Still have Shadows of NY to finish, then maybe Night Road? We'll see! :)

19:47 if Bloodlines 2 crashes it might not be a bug or feature, but Lasombra 😁
I'm so glad you finally got this one out! I was just picking up V5 when I found your clan videos, and you've been through so much (Good and bad) since then, it's crazy. I'm glad you're doing well, and finally got around to getting us the La Sombra video! It can be so hard to find a compilation of lore for the clans when you're new, and don't have the old books and knowledge.
Lasombra is def the most unique, itriguing and badass Clans in the Workd of Darkness
I can really relate with what you said! I often build my own Lasombra characters having in mind this perspective.
great to see this series back! your videos are what really sparked my interest in WoD, feels so long ago now lol
Outstar i have a question, if you dont mind. have you ever considered making videos about specific important people or concepts in Vampire? like, just for example, the story of Caine and how vampirism started? hope this doesnt seem pushy or anything I just like how you present the world
I will think about it next after Clans are done, thank you!
@@Outstarwalker just happy there's more videos coming! 🥰
@@Outstarwalker :)
@@Outstarwalker That'd be cool. It'd be nice to have some vids that focuses on some focal VTM characters like Talley or Rafael de Corazon. And their shenanigans that affected the Vampire world in some way.
Cain has been rehashed for hundreds of times already, lore key persons are more interesting/important for sessions.
With the Lasombra and the Toreadors in the Camarilla, it reminds me of a land where different predators meet. If a mountain lion happens into an area where there are wolves (or vice versa) there is always a power struggle.
Thank you for another excellent overview!
You have the besties clan vídeos. The way you express the core of all clans is incredible. And thanks for that so good video about my favorite clan.
No one knew he was secretly Lasombra?
Yes I been waiting for this you rock can't wait to see you pull off a Tzimisce or Ravnos next
Best priest I've ever met :)))))
So the visual effects in Shadows of New York while the Lasombra character is looking at a camera is canon?
They don't have to look exactly the same as they looked in Shadows or in my intro - but they're always "glitchy" and off!
@@Outstarwalker and how is the effect when they look at mirrors? Do they get glitchy the same way they get in front of cameras or is it different?
@@jeffsblima They have no reflection whatsoever, so they cannot be seen in mirrors, water etc.
They have been my favorite clan since I found out about them :) Great video outstar, also, your makeup is really great!
Nice character idea, and Raymond would be indeed a TERRIFYING Lasombra.
One of the first character ideas i had for a lasombra is a ruthless vampire vigilante. Think the punisher or red hood with shadow magic. I think it fits dark, ruthless and terrifying aesthetic of the lasombra without just making them straight up evil.
they were in the bloodlines unofficial patch plus -

OMG finally my main favourite clan love you thank you for making this! 🖤
Outstar looks great as a Lasombra.
Finally the clan video of my favorite Clan. Not disappointed! Thanks a lot!
Ah, my clan... how badly did they nerf Obtenebration in the new edition? Oblivion? What's that... *looks things up* ...WTF.
my oblivion is my least favorite aspect in v5
@@swissarmyknight4306 Same here. Although our game started in medieval times so being seen is a lot less of an issue than it is in more modern times.
honestly, I only made it 6.5 mins into the video and so many things sound so completely wrong... I really loved the Lasombra Clan, their lore and their connection to the Abyss... but now I'm truly afraid to look up what V5 did to them.
Wow, so glad you're back! And with awesome new content! Hope you're doing well. Love your vids
Glad to see you do these type of videos again young lady!! 😊
production on this is awesome.
I played a lasombra posing as a ventrue in a camarilla game and had the whole city believing I was a elder ventrue and was a seneschal to a malkavian Prince
2nd time I played a lasombra was when I was a hitman/enforcer/ for the clan and went around making sure that all is well
And there was many other times I have played la som bra
I really always enjoy these descriptive vids! Awesome work with this. Well played.
Where has this channel been my whole life?
I missed those videos formats ^w^
glad to see one on the Lasombras !
i like this. from hearding about vampire the masquarade in D&D sessions from my friends then discovering the game made me diehard fan of the lore.
As a Lasombra Dark Knight i have destroyed many supernaturals, as a Lasombra Sage i have explored many realities and through all of it I have realised that the great beyond is coming to consume everything, the Abyss.
What is the Abyss?
All I can say is...
It is the shadow out of time,
It is the darkness of the unknown,
It is the night encasing nightmares,
It is the void of oblivion,
It is the truth incomprehensible,
It simply is.
Who are the Lasombra?
My clan bears many burdens, the burden of loneliness, failure, depression, suffering, horror and most of all emptiness. Kindred or kine humanity eventually dies in the wake of these burdens, thus it is difficult to find anything humane within clan Lasombra.
But,
To be Lasombra means to fight, strive, thrive and survive against all odds.
I know it´s off topic. But your style is criminal cool!
I'd need gigantic reserves of popcorn to watch that

5 out of 7 so far videos by you messing up yet you have the best description videos of all RUclips videos on Vampire the Masquerade
Woah, the blue and black hair looks awesome on you!
Do a clan Tzimisce video about there Koldunic Sorcery with Vicissitude please.
my fave Clan that has never made it to a game that we can play
I survived, so far, the First and Second Inquisition,
I was acquainted with Gratiano de Veronese and the Anarchs of old albeit, I did not take part in the somber events that went down in Sicily.
I think they survive not for survival itself but for something beyound. Something incomprehensible by mortal mind.
Man the Ost that plays for VV from masquerade gets me every time
To be the last guttering cinders upon the corpse of creation before they themselves are snuffed out. My kind of clan!
Looking gorgeous as ever, Greetings from Brazil!
so... Lasombra are the unstoppable force and Ventrue are the immovable object?
loved the video, I found out after 16 years that I was actually Lasombra (thought I was Toreador until a few months ago) so how's that for an identity crisis
I feel you man
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Lasombra's bane probably comes from being the personification of shadow, the absence of light and, more generally, electromagnetism. So their very presence fuck up anything having to do with electromagnetic waves.
The Lasombra clan seem's interesting, but Tremere will always be my favourite clan
Both playing as one of them in Bloodlines and getting to know their Primogen in that game gave me a lot of respect for them
@@buckmoonmedia5113 cool
I love yours makeups. Want so much see the next clans.
I’m just waiting for Clan Gangrel. I know I have much to learn about them, but based on Bloodline’s description I feel a connection to them.
I have a Gangrel video available already if you're looking for it! ruclips.net/video/w0S40PBn4P0/видео.html
This is delightful. Thank you
Hey Outstar, my friends and I are trying to play Vampire for the first time ever and your videos have been such a big help! Do you think you could do a video explaining Ghouls; what they are and how they work mechanically in V5?
Good idea, I'll do it in the future!
