- There are many ways to enjoy the Kruger National Park. In this video we share the Nkuhlu Tented Camp with you, and how it stacks up against general SANparks bungalows.
Awesome video Ben!!! So helpful and so fun to watch!
Thanks Cam, so much to explore out there
Planning a trip to Kruger later this year and Nkhulu looks like a perfect spot to stay (already have several campsites lined up at some of the other SANParks as well). Really good advice and loved how you edited this as well.
I think a really good value for money options is some of the satellite camps like Tamboti tented camps. As you say, some of the facilities are a bit dated 100% agreed but you get a ready set up tent with a private deck for around R850 a night for a couple, Nice option if you don't want to buy a ton of camping gear or spend R6k a night while still being relatively private.
Yup, Tamboti is a great little camp!
Subscribed.
Also love the Kruger but prefer the basic camping sites like Tsendze.
Now camping is where the big money spenders are 😃. Just so many ways to enjoy the place, and I do love when people share their experiences as it just makes me want to do more here.
Loving the travel videos! Like this tented camp option. Is leaning towards pricey, but with sightings like that coupled with a great bed it does lean towards being worth it!
For sure, and if you are deal savy you can pick up 'better value' at different stages of the year in other places. But I reckon Nkuhlu just gets so much right in one offering that makes it worthwhile. And they do a great job in providing a unique Kruger experience in the southern section.
awesome!! cool video Ben!! We are an hour and a half away from the Phalaborwa gate ,we love the park ,dont go there enough tho! Cheers okes
Start with a quarterly plan I reckon, and from that gate you have a nice triangle of staying options between Mopani, Letaba and Olifants. 👍
Nkuhlu is nice and all but it's R6k per person per night, and it's aimed at couples so R12k a night is really not worth it imo! Headline is a bit misleading, considering sanparks accom is per unit not person. Cheers for the video, bring back good memories!
Not misleading at all. Unit prices stated, not per person.
Hey this is such an amazing video… i just want to know what is the difference between night drive and external night drive…. Your comment gonna help me alot to plan my trip
A night drive is essentially something you can arrange at the SANparks camp you stay at. Gates for personal drives close late afternoon, so only way to get out there after dark is with this service supplied. Hope that helps
The prices are criminal ..we as locals cannot visit.
Foreign millionaires are enjoying our land
R6k a night for those facilities is a rip off. In my opinion over priced by at least 30%.
Such a pity the international tourists makes it workable to charge this.
What would you say is a comparison then Leslie with the same elements at play?
Without the international tourists the locals would have to pay a lot more for a lot less to keep many places running, so be careful what you wish for!!
@@followthebounce As I said, 30% less, so about R4000 per couple.
This is not really luxury accommodation and it's SELF CATERING!
The same level of accommodation most places outside the Kruger is R2500, or less, outside of school holidays. So even with a premium for being in the park, I feel it is over priced at R6000.
@@pauljansen6650 Then charge the foreigners more and give a substantial local discount.
Although I don't think this is really relevant. With the type of occupation rates they can achieve in the Kruger, a facility like this should be able to run profitable at R4k per unit.
@LeslieBergh they do charge foreigners more, do you even know that you are arguing against yourself. Everything you are saying is already being done, so what point are you trying to make?
Nice for the city slickers. I prefer camping & the old bungalows are a luxury for me.
I know Nkuhlu is not under KNP, so when I go to KNP, I support Kruger National Park.
I don't think comparing KNP to Nkuhlu is fair. Rather compare their own units (bungalows, guest houses etc)
What makes you say it isn’t part of Kruger? Point of the video is that I encounter city slickers who often don’t go to the park because of reputation of rest camps. Nice that you have found your happy place though, many happy trips ahead 👍🏻
@followthebounce Nkuhlu is part of the "aha" hotel group. They don't fall under KNP, but are maintaining the picnic area on KNP behalf.
You can't book through SANParks.
I live an hour from KNP, so every opportunity to go camping, I take. SANParks is busy with upgrades & renovation at present. Mopani, Letaba & a few other camps have awesome facilities.
I enjoy watching your content.
Yup, and I reckon more private companies like them working with Kruger National Park will absolutely improve overall offering. Noticed upgrades at Letaba on this trip, very keen to go there soon !
