My favorite game of all time!! I spent so many hours powering up my characters. The story, the music. Luv each character. Yes you're right. This game is very underrated. I'm so happy to have played such an amazing game. This game is hidden treasure.
Incredible moments, bro. Impossible to explain. The sense of adventure, of danger, of combat, of darkness. I feel lucky for having played this in the 90' s as a teenager. Very lucky. It was explosive. I think something from this game remained into me from then... The Dragon?????
I agree. BOF I is a real gem for me. Like a badass old anime or something like that. Serious, challenging, cryptic, deep, dark, dramatic... BOF I is part of my teenagehood, part of me. And the music is superior. Gloomy, obscure, sad... A masterpiece for me. Just for very contemplative and refined public.
Probably not as much goosebumps as when you heard the theme in BoF2 (assuming you played BoF1 before BoF2). Such a shame Capcom didn't carry this theme over to the sequels.
@@synthonaplinth5980 Yes, the first overworld theme in BoF1 is the SECOND overworld theme in BoF2. And the name of the song is, appropriately called "Breath of Fire." It was intended to be the main theme of the BoF franchise until BoF3 screwed everything over.
Had this as a kid, couldn’t get into it. Forgot all about it. Bought a switch for my kids, randomly one night gave it shot. Hooked lol.. a great game. Wish I had of played through as a kid
I do like how Nina was more of a warrior in the 1st game rather than a damsel in distress in the 3rd game. Another disappointing factor in BoF3 is the fact Deis (AKA Bleu) is not a playable character in 3. However, the ''master'' system is pretty good in the 3rd and 4th games. BoF4 has a pretty solid battle system, cast of characters, and plot as well but still doesn't compare to 3 IMO. To each's own I suppose but I do give you props for liking such a great game and series! Cheers!
The game never actually tells you this but you can actually use the E-key in battle through items and it's mad strong for the early part of the game, you can coast on using it until around level 25! I remember my first playthrough I only discovered this near the point where it stops being useful. I could've saved hours in battletime if I knew earlier.
I was also shouting at playback to use the e-key. 30 damage that hits all enemies. Have nina use it, she is usually the first person to strike in most battles and it finishes everyone quickly
That is definitely one long play! I still need to beat that, and about 60+ other PS1 games in my collection haha! I got to the final boss and Ryu just did not have enough MP to stay in an ultimate dragon form for more than a few turns and I did not feel like grinding for hours to get the team to stupid levels, so I deleted the data.
I have been playing this game on Nintendo Switch Online. In my case, I have found it best to stock up on herbs for health and gradually level up with random battles before heading to the first castle. It made more sense for me to do it that way instead of just going in as a "Level 1."
my control freak brain is in hyper mode b/c select is a short cut out of menu so u dont have to hit B a dozen times and also the E key is great for early game control when you handle more than 1 mob
@ValisHD Did you ever play 3 or 4? I think BoF got better and better with each one, meaning I thought 4 was the best. Graphics wise it looks far ahead of its time and the story, as with all BoF, was still epic and gameplay was addicting as always.
Man I had this for an emulator back in 99 lol. This game is the reason I got a b on a book report in 5th grade. I barely tried because I was hooked on this. My mom would come in and I used to pause it and hide it lol
+YoungDrizzle215 Haha, I know what you mean; I love the BoF series! 1-4 was great but I never had a chance to play BoF 5 though I heard a lot of fans didn't really like it since its so drastically different from the first four games so I won't expect too much out of BoF 6. Capcom would be so much better off doing a remake of BoF 1 and 2.
Or making a BOF VII in decent conditions!! You know, like the first ones, in a new rpg-pokemon current visual style, I guess. BOF is dynamite. Is something serious. Capcom doesn' t realize thst.
My brother in law hack my snes classic and I gave him a list of games I wanted on the snes classic. Then for the rest I said put in any game you recommend me that you think I would like and so he put so much snes games that this and part 2 were in it... never looked since then :)
I do love the entire series (except dragon quarter) but I would tend to think that Breath of Fire 3 is by far the best of the series. I mean it's superior in almost every aspect. Sheer game-play, insanely good plot, (IMHO the best in the series) faerie village, revolutionary in-game gear switching, graphics, respectable sound-track, battle system, and the fishing game. OMG I HATE fishing in real life but for whatever reason I am addicted to it! I could fish for HOURS at a time! Continued>
Master Sander, Emily Mason can voice Bleu (Baby Bop the Strongest Magical sorceress) that can join Ryu (Leopold the Brood hero)'s party group in "AGK of Fire".
Square published the game here. Capcom was actually the developer, as they followed up with the sequel too. I mean hell the music and sound effects are straight up unmistakably SNES Capcom.
I do give Breath of Fire the original a lot of props though. It does have the superior sound-track IMO and a better cast of characters. There were more characters to choose from and they seemed to be more useful than the weak variety in Breath of Fire 3. That is probably the biggest disappointment and downfall of Breath of Fire 3 is the cast of characters and battle-usage. Really, one would only use Ryu, Rei, and either Peco or Garr...hardly ever Momo or Nina. :/ Continued>
the story seems pretty good but the lack of information kills it no label for citys what items do is separated from the use of them you cant check your gears stats while they are equipped besides the story some basic elements for general gameplay are missing making this a bad game overall
Megan Carvalho FF7 came out 4 years after this game and on the new generation of consoles at the time. A more fair comparison would be Breath Of Fire III which also came out the same year 1997. In that case I'd pick BOF3 over FF7 only because It hasn't been rammed down my throat.

So-damn-TRUE.
It's coming to switch for free 2morrow how do u feel about that?
The BGM in this game is some of the best in gaming, imo. Watching this brings back a lot of memories of hours spent playing it back in the mid 90s!
Incredible moments, bro. Impossible to explain. The sense of adventure, of danger, of combat, of darkness.

One of the few games that I had as a kid that remains unbeaten. One day BofF, one day...... Thank God for Emulators and ROMS!
probably the most under rated game series :c
jc troncoso definitely the most underrated RPG series.

@@sdlock83 Wow, thanks for the info. I will have to check that out.
@@synthonaplinth5980 Also "You Must Live," the sad song from BoF2 is also an arrangement of BoF1's sad theme.
The soundtrack oozes nostalgia!
Eeww! that sounds gross
I am looking to buy the whole set of this series. Honestly a classic in my opinion and brings back some of my early gaming experiences!
There' s also a great Artbook and two Manga titles at least. I collect BOF stuff too. Gems.
2:02 RPGs asking the fuckin' hard questions when you're like 9 years old.

I’m playing this game for the first time on SNES Nintendo Switch Online! The game is good so far!
Glad to hear it's being enjoyed anew in this day and age!
I am in love with this game and have been from the first time I played it!
Who came here after Switch Online announcement?
Strahd von Zarovich me
Same
Is anyone else having trouble getting past the start screen? Once I put in my keybindings nothing happens
I definitely did. It's taking a little getting use to tho since they don't really explain what everything is. Is AB just auto battle?
@@Saved___ literally just watch what he does in the video
1 hour in and can’t stop playing it

I would be lost in this game if it wasn't for you. Thank you
This was the first RPG I ever played and beat. Followed by Super Mario RPG and then FFVII.
Keiji Inafune was the/a character designer for this game.
I'd pay money for a legit sequel of this game that takes place in this world.

It's on SNES Switch online collection now.
After defeating frog, I go to the next castle but the guards won't let me in. Can't figure out what to do..
Google is your friend, not RUclips comments.
I think you have to do it at night when they are asleep

When you get to play as Nina you have the E-key lolz
I like 1, 2 and 3. 4 is where it went wrong for me, and the fifth was the final derailment of the series.
My childhood game
One of the last classic rpg of nineties.
This is a ridiculous statement. There were so many good RPGs after 1993.
this game uses the same sound
effects as street fighter 2.
if you like breath of fire try shining force by sega
Shining force is pretty different, it is mostly a strategy game. Maybe try phantasy star 2.
Not surprising, it’s a Capcom SNES title using their specific sound setup.
i play actualy !!! i like the rpg of snes !!! it's best of rpg serie with seiken 3 chrono bahamut lagoon + guest
wow i thought game faqs was amazing when i was a kid. Great Job btw..

Hey guys.
Do you always notice that Nina and Ryu are always part of the game? Except like.... Different faces?
WHAT?! REALLY?! how could i have missed that?! -_-
What does petrify mean on this game? I don't think the player it trying to scare or turn his characters to stone
coinchirop I think it increased defense.
crazy, I could not give this game away 5 years ago lol glad I still have it with the box

ok I'll try
the knight is really hard to defeat.
My favorite rpg till this day

Like Super Mario RPG, but with anime style characters.
