- Hallo!!! In this ASMR video, I tried to whisper several simple Dutch expressions. A lot of people from the Netherlands have been asking me to do an ASMR video in Dutch but as I don't speak this language, that's the best I can do. I hope that my pronunciation wasn't too bad and that you can listen to this video, relax and fall asleep! I might do a full asmr video in Dutch if people enjoy this ^^

I speak Afrikaans which is an offshoot language of Dutch and it's strange and amazing how I understand you. Language is an amazing thing
As I understand dutch and Afrikaans is the same except for some geological differences.
@@defacto4540 they're same-ish enough that if you know one learning the other is easy but if you know one it's no guarantee that you will understand the other. They're about as similar as Portuguese is to Spanish. A lot of the words are the same and they share a 'same-ish' grammar structure, but pronunciation varies wildly and Afrikaans idioms make no sense (coming from a native Afrikaans speaker) 😂. All that being said poets like Ingrid Jonker's poetry are used to teach schoolkids in the Netherlands and Belgium - her use of words and language is so good that it crosses a lot of the difficulties between the languages that kids can read it with basically a glossary.

@@DBZgeek "pleased to meet you" - angename literally means 'pleasant/nice' and kennis literally means 'knowledge' but in this case 'to know'.
You really nailed it as a non-native dutch speaker! People often tend to find the pronounciation hard, but this was very well done!

As a german I always feel trolled by this language XD
It seems to be the same with just a few letters and words changed, like someone took german and mixed it up a bit with a pinch of english... -I often understand what dutch people say but I'm certainly not fully able to understand it.

I Travelled to the Netherlands when I was 9 for about 10 Months and could speak Fluently but as soon as I traveled back to America I lost so much that I had learned but I could understand much of what you were saying!

Uitspraak is zo goed als perfect!! Only the word “U” is a very formal version of “jij”/“je”, you mostly say “U” to people that you don’t know and are older than yourself. Also keep it up! Im proud of you!
