As native German speaker who used to study English linguistics at uni this was FASCINATING!! So much overlap between German, English and Dutch! Thanks for this!! ☺️
As a german and english speaker, I can understand dutch somehow, even though I can’t understand a whole sentence. Its like this: I understand a few words and i can figure out what it could mean. I love dutch
This was such a fun video! And still very calming. I liked you pointing at the words while we were supposed to repeat them. That was relaxing somehow. Us Germans love compound words as well and this section made me so happy. We have a lot of similar words like Ja and Bürger. And lots of compound words that are made up out of the same words like Staubsauger, Nilpferd (This is actually the first time that I realised that the Nil in Nilpferd comes frome the river.), Eisbär (the dutch word is pronounced almost exactly the same) and many more that you've shown. We also have "animal garden" (or animal park), the Tierpark, but we also have the word Zoo and there is a difference between them. I'd be happy about another video. Dankjewel for this one. Schöne Festtage! (Or Feiertage, we use that word more often.)
😭 Goedenacht!! Doei doei doei! 👋
I know you arms were dying at the end of the video, thanks for your sacrifice hahaha. It was so informative ! I love learning new languages and I have a friend who is dutch, so it makes it even funnier. Sweet dreams everyone ⭐️
(25:51) i wanna say to anyone reading this that in some of these words, fleur uses y (with the line above it) as the "eye" sound, when (in my experience) it's usually written as "ij" as in "jij," "zij," or "hij" (you, she, or he.)
Teehee that’s my handwriting 🫢 good tip!! It’s ij but linked together and one stripe instead of dots (we get taught to link them this way in elementary school)
fleur- i loved this video so much. you’re such a great teacher im very impressed. my mom is from the netherlands but we live in the us (i was born here) and ive grown up hearing dutch, but not learning very much. i’ve always wanted to be fluent or at least just learn a lot more and i greatly appreciate this video. definitely incorporate more dutch in your vids ALSJEBLIEFT !!
I've been in Amsterdam this weekend, watched this video in the hotel last night, and because of it, I got the joke in the "brouwerij'tij" brewery name. I understood my first word play in Dutch!
love hearing you talk in your own lamguage, makes us be even more relaxed cause we don’t know what you’re saying so we focus on the sounds only! but it was amazing to learn new words 🥹🩷 also the way you explain is so easy to understand
I was waiting for something like this Fleur! Always found the Dutch language interesting. My dad worked in Venlo when I was a teenager so I used to holiday there all the time. I picked up a few words but never got deep into it because everyone speaks such perfect English.
dutch is such a beautiful language for ASMR - goedenavond is a new favourite trigger word! 💖 i think you did an amazing job explaining everything, thank you! x also in the UK we sometimes use ‘toadstool’ interchangeably with mushroom so the word at 33:26 must be from the same root! 🍄
Haai👋🏼 as a native german, dutch always felt like a dialect of german and this video proved it to me once again…or german is a dialect of dutch🤷🏻♂️. Nearly every word had a similarity or like in the word „Ei“ it‘s just completely the same😂. Also your personality and the vibe in every video is just insanely wholesome and perfect. Your inner circle in your real life is really blessed to have such an uplifting person around. Dankjewel for everything you are doing! Doei doei!
this was so fun!! as a swedish person this was so odd seeing similarities but it either is spelled or pronounced completely different, loved it though! i love “nile horse”, it’s so much more fun than our general “river horse”
I’m not even kidding, I dreamt last night about being in Netherlands, and I couldn’t communicate properly because I don’t know the language (I’m Brazilian), I swear my algorithm must have been reading my mind because I didn’t say it out loud. Your video popped out of nowhere and I’m blown away by how weird this is 😂but I’m glad I got to learn some Dutch and relax before sleep! Thank you ❤
I’ve just started learning Dutch on DuoLingo and I’m finding it’s not too difficult so far. I learned German for 5 years at school but I’m not too good at that language because I’ve been there three times in the 40 years since I left school. However, I am ok at French and find DuoLingo great for throwing lots of vocabulary at you. Much of Dutch is really similar to English because of the same root language involved in old English. I can even get DuoLngo to recognise my pronunciation of Dutch words. I’ve not tried Babbel but I enjoyed your lesson. Thank you. The way you pronounced EU dipthong sounded simial tomthe OA in Oak in English. I think it sounds different in Fleur because that comes from French.
OMG IVE BEEN WAITING AND PRAYINGGG FOR THIS VIDEO🙏🙏 im so thankful and grateful for you taking the time out your day to do this video Fleur, i appreciate it and you so so much🫶🏼🫶🏼 Dankjewel
It can be a pretty harsh language but it depends on the accent, Fleur has a sweet voice so you don't really notice. I would say it's like German but a bit softer, espacially the southern and Belgian variants. The Germans say it's like when their drunk and trying to speak English, so something like that.
I love this so much! Thank you! I adore learning about languages! You also (maybe by accident) incorporated some anticipatory ASMR, and it was amazing!!
I did some Dutch Dulingo and some of there words reminded me of it a lot. many of there words are also close to French which is a language I speak and they make me laugh 😂
Wat een leuke video! Wat grappig om zo naar mijn eigen moedertaal te kijken. En is Noors een beetje te leren? Echt ons favoriete vakantieland, maar de taal... Ik ben heel blij dat daar echt iedereen Engels spreekt 🙄
In primary school, I once wrote 'handshoe' when I couldn't remember 'glove' during an English exam (I'm from the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium). I got marks for being silly lol. I think English should have more compound words. They are fun!
So im half dutch and i tried learning Dutch in 2019, this is such a beautiful way to teach Dutch! Also yes you should be a dutch teacher, just saying 😂❤
omg girl my boyfriend is dutch so i’m trying to learn how to speak it so i can talk to his family but i am american and chilean so only speak english and spanish and dutch pronunciation has been so hard for me 😭😭 but this was actually super helpful!!
Thanks for the video. I started learning Dutch in early September and I feel like a failure because I suck at it. I wouldn't have a problem with it but I study it as my university minor and everything is so very fast and I need to learn it by the end of the year (may). I think I should change minors but I am interested in Dutch and I don't want to fail or do more of university. I try everything and I still don't remember anything (except for a few words and phrases). My pronounciation is also terrible. I know this is lots of work but the teachers really expect a lot from me and I also have my major where I need to do lots of stuff too.
Wonderful video, thank you! I can't think of a more relaxing way to learn some Dutch. Please make more of these Dutch language videos, they're great! I speak a bunch of languages and absolutely love learning new ones. But I also happen to have many Dutch friends (including my bestie). Btw, I just wanted to mention that there is an inedible mushroom called a 'toadstool' in English. Cheers!
The ONLY Dutch words that I remember that somebody taught was: stroopwafel (?), ik hou von jou, ik mis je, lekkerding... 🤔🤣 Don't they speak French in the Netherlands too? 🤔 I'm having fun repeating you while I'm browsing and scrolling through My Samsung Themes on rainbows! 🤔😁👍🏻🥰🤗💖🌈

Yes Maastricht has the softest G by far, sounds almost like a J (Y in English). The soft G is way more spread in regional accents in the Netherlands than some think, about one third of the native speakers have a soft G variant. Everything below the river Rhine, so Brabant, Limburg and the Arnhem/Nijmegen area. The Zeeland G sounds almost like a H. The famous hard G is from de Randstad where most people live, the media, universities and tourists are (so Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht etc.) and most of the East and North. Except in Friesland, if their native tongue is Frisian they have an English/German sounding G sometimes. The Dutch (Flamish) speaking Belgians also have a soft G.
The letters just keep vanishing in alsjeblieft. In the 18th century it was als 't je belieft (if it you pleases being the literal word for word translation). In a hundred years we'll probably be spelling it without the first l, too. Without the t at the end is already an accepted spelling right now

Im German too. My parents used to tell me that Dutch is a mixture of German and English and a bit too much alcohol 🙃
@@Kim-2006 haha yeah in my peer group it‘s called the same but I didn’t want to say that because maybe somebody who speaks dutch is offended by that😬

Currently learning Dutch myself & I’d love more of these! Cause I also love asmr ❤
