      I don't like epoxy either, but tables need to be wiped down thoroughly and often, and this one can't. I would just use this piece of wood for something else, and cut off everything from the gap to the edge.

      It’s really expensive, but when all your tools are designed to just click together and they work extremely well for a long time then it is totally worth the investment. It’s just like Snap On wrenches, you buy them just one time instead of having to replace them over the years, and they also work better than the competition. I would pay double the price for tools if they work just a little better and also do not break

      @evanhughes3027 Месяц назад

      I think it looks good for the following reason. (Not trying to be crappy, just a different perspective). I know that isn't what wood usually looks like. Wood is usually a tree. So any polished look is already human touch and intervention. To me, the human touch has exposed a natural flaw, a large crack. Another, correcting touch makes it fast, except it reads as mechanical instead of natural grain pattern. It's almost a tip of the hand, like a modern art piece.

    • @Monkycrasure-gk4fz
      @Monkycrasure-gk4fz Месяц назад

      @@findout1990 Stop, they purposely leave in those big cracks when making the tabletop so they can put in bowties. It's more of a look than anything else. If not then every single one of these youtube woodworkers wouldn't use them on every table they make.

    • @AceIndiana
      @AceIndiana 20 дней назад

      @@evanhughes3027 I have to disagree. It doesn’t make it look better or like a tip of the hand. And it seems to serve no purpose than… honestly I can’t think of one as even saying it’s for reinforcement purposes but even that falls apart when epoxy resin is injected into the hole. I don’t think this should be done similar to a modern art piece. At least not in this way. Let the beauty of the wood speak for itself rather than having human hands changing that natural beauty and marring it

    So, legit question, when you’re making the jig and all the bow ties, why not round the corners of the bow ties so the jig can perfectly cut their shape instead of requiring a chisel for four corners for every insert?

    You can also make this amazing table top / door all you need is the festool equipment and the deep pockets to buy it . Very good equipment but very expensive and their are so many budget alternatives that work just as good for cutting bow ties in but If money isn’t an issue for you then festool all the way

    Is the bow tie jig slightly larger than the bowtie itself to account for the guide bushing or not needed?

    It was a nice piece of wood before if you just stained it and put a piece of glass on top or some epoxy, but now there’s just weird tiny gaps, what was the point of that??
