I don't like epoxy either, but tables need to be wiped down thoroughly and often, and this one can't. I would just use this piece of wood for something else, and cut off everything from the gap to the edge.

For everyone who hates the appearance of this, the video is about the tools he’s using. This could be on the underside of the table as there are no legs yet. It is impossible to know, but it was an opportunity for him to try out this tool, and it seems to work. I must admit I don’t care for it cosmetically and my kids would call it the Franken-table.
I think I prefer epoxy. I like being able to see the whole gash running down the wood, and it’d be much easier to clean. But the tool shown to cut the wood seems super handy!
It’s really expensive, but when all your tools are designed to just click together and they work extremely well for a long time then it is totally worth the investment. It’s just like Snap On wrenches, you buy them just one time instead of having to replace them over the years, and they also work better than the competition. I would pay double the price for tools if they work just a little better and also do not break

I think it looks good for the following reason. (Not trying to be crappy, just a different perspective). I know that isn't what wood usually looks like. Wood is usually a tree. So any polished look is already human touch and intervention. To me, the human touch has exposed a natural flaw, a large crack. Another, correcting touch makes it fast, except it reads as mechanical instead of natural grain pattern. It's almost a tip of the hand, like a modern art piece.
@@findout1990 Stop, they purposely leave in those big cracks when making the tabletop so they can put in bowties. It's more of a look than anything else. If not then every single one of these youtube woodworkers wouldn't use them on every table they make.

En plus c'est la facilité, qu'on m'explique s'ils vous plaît ce que de la résine vient faire dans la réparation ou de la réfection dans les règles de l'art de meubles en menuiserie ou en ébénisterie sur des bois massifs. @@stephanelintz2804 you need to watch the stress test video Blacktail studios did. The epoxy table held over 3000Lbs and never broke. To break it, it took them dropping a sharpened full log, and even still, the epoxy OR the epoxy wood bond never broke. It was only the wood that broke

I have been using the 700 for a few years now as well. The one downside of the tool is the limited view of the bit one has. And, of course, all accessories cost a bit more than regular brands. 😉 But still a worth while tool.
You could decorate it so it looks like stitches and it could possibly be the next zombie/ apocalyptic genre for people who like that kind of thing. Rock stars, wealthy bad boys/girls. It could be turned into a hundred different things. Tim Burton nightmare stuff or “Vampire” shit. Could be lucrative for the right person with the right marketing. Shaq got a fkn shark tank and Ozzie has had coffins ⚰️ for tables. Best of luck. It’s pretty cool

So, legit question, when you’re making the jig and all the bow ties, why not round the corners of the bow ties so the jig can perfectly cut their shape instead of requiring a chisel for four corners for every insert?
You can also make this amazing table top / door all you need is the festool equipment and the deep pockets to buy it . Very good equipment but very expensive and their are so many budget alternatives that work just as good for cutting bow ties in but If money isn’t an issue for you then festool all the way
It was a nice piece of wood before if you just stained it and put a piece of glass on top or some epoxy, but now there’s just weird tiny gaps, what was the point of that??

Round corner bowties do exist, but overly smooth geometric features often look a bit tacky.

It’s not for looks. It’s to secure and reinforce the gap. This is the underside. Topside probably looks nice enough to warrant this extra effort.

Make the edges of inserts same with radius of the router bit. This will save your time chipping the holes edge since it is not necessary.
