This is such an amazing insight into this family. Her Majesty clearly really loved her family. It is lovely hearing both her and the late Duke of Edinburgh discussing one another’s parents.
'Keeping Up With the Windsors'; their early version of reality TV haha. This is quite an eye opener, seeing them at a glimpse in their 'normal' family life. They actually don't come off that bad, and seem almost natural. I'm not much of a royalist but Queen Elizabeth was a charismatic and good looking woman in her way, and seemed to genuinely dote on her children and grandchildren.
So glad they have this documented so the world can see the Queen and her family are also human like us. Only difference is they have titles and unbelievable responsibilities that resembles being a celebrity.

When I was growing up, I thought I'd like to be queen. Then, I saw a documentary like "a day in the life of qe2" and changed my mind. Every minute of her day was scheduled. What's the point of being queen if you can't just do what you want? Most humongous respect and admiration for her. Also, now, the King.

I was listening to Tina Brown's book "The Palace Papers" and it's so interesting, because she talks about how The Queen understood that stuff like this and the overwhelming popularity of Princess Diana - one person in BRF standing out from the the others - was like letting the press get a glimpse of something that they would just want more and more of and could threaten The Monarchy's survival.

Its alleged that the Royal family later regretted allowing this documentary to be made. Princess Anne said that she hated the experience of cameras following them around for a whole year as she dislijed the scrutiny of it. I think it's a wonderful gem to be able to see the Royal family living their daily lives. The public had never before seen the family so up close and personal as they are here. The Queen seems like a lovely Mother, doting on her family. Philip appears rather stand offish towards the children and rather distant bit that was due to his upbringing. Winston Churchill firmly believed that once the mystic of the Royal Family has gone, and they are seen up close, then the allure of them dissapears. I suspect he would have hated this documentary as it goes against everything he believed the Royal family should be viewed as by the public. Nevertheless, its a wonderful historical document into the family life of the late Queen and her family.

I have a younger brother 9 years younger than me as well as two sisters. I remember when he was born my teacher marvelling that I now would have a brother to I assume play and hang out with but even back then in 1968 I could do the maths and quickly concluded that was unlikely to ever happen. I was proved right. He is just a different generation than me and we have no common interests and do or never did much together. I often envy guys who have brothers around their own age who are more in tune with each other and do so much stuff together. Its something I always have regretted and felt a little bitter about.

I can understand why they felt uncomfortable about this. Princess Anne has since said that she hated having the cameras around. If I was having a BBQ with my family I wouldn’t want a TV crew filming me. It was an unnecessary intrusion of their privacy.

This documentary did do a lot of damage at the time. The Queen never allowed it to be shown ever again.
