A7x back in 2003: Wow dude that‘s sick!
Guitarists the last 18 years: It‘s free real estate
Not anymore. That’s Architects that’s getting ripped off now
First band to do it (to my knowledge) was Avenger in 1985
@@BobRocksGuitar and i'm so sick of it. Metalcore is sooooo boring nowadays 🙄
@@getscared_x3 it literally isn’t.
@@getscared_x3 I don't think you've listened to metalcore made in the past 5 years.
Zacky vengeance been feeding the metalcore community for 20 years with that riff
Thrice and other metal/punk bands were doing this before a7x
@@DeffoZappo Chuck Schudiner was playing 5-7-8 riffs on Death albums lol
@@BKF0and then 578 before chuck too like avenger which in turn inspired that riff in spirit crusher. Its all connected
As I lay dying made an entire album with this riff lmao
their whole discography is basically variations of this riff
@@xezmakorewarriahnewer stuff a lot less so or at least different intervals albeit same scale/key
@@xezmakorewarriah their first 2 maybe 3 albums for sure
And its the best metalcore album known to mankind
@@gagearmijo4150what's the album title? I haven't listened to As I Lay Dying and wanna check it out
They all sound like variations of the unholy confessions riff
I love it
The unholy confessions riff was itself a variation of an Avenger riff from 1985 which had already been done multiple times before A7X. They just have the most well known example.
@@jamrhein2 we know it as the SOTS riff
Another similar riff is trespass by the haunted
Even lamb of God threw in their 2 cents with it
@@jamrhein2which was very similar to a Judas priest riff, Electric Eye
5-7-8 guitar riff is pinnacle of Metal 🤘
Minor babyyyyy!
I'm pretty sure the pinnacle of metal is actually 0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0. Slayer comes.to mind...
Depends on the tuning, it could be 7-9-10 too :)
Y E A H.
@@James.99slayer does this as well lol
5-7-8, the holy trinity of metalcore riffs.
Ilia Topuria fucking shreds, who knew
Bro "the riff" has been a staple since the 80's and I love it
That 5-7-8 riff
Sound so similar i could barely recognize the difference between the 3 of them
It looks like "Through Struggle" from As I lay dying too 👀
Every melodic metalcore riff with the 5, 7, 8, 10 looks like another one
and also "One Good reason Why" from Bullet For My Valentine and "Don't Mess With Ouija Boards" from Falling In Reverse
Nah am pretty sure this is knives and pens by black veil brides
Shot in the dark by A DAY TO REMEMBER
For the soul of the savior by Darkest hour is a song that sounds like this back even before AILD and A7X
"Breeeeaaaathingggg and graaahhhhhspiiing ALLLL LEEEAADS TOOOO another messy endiiiiing."
They all just sound like Spirit Crusher from Death. In fact metalcore riffs were inspired by melodic death metal
Basically, especially this bands in the late 90s Avenged Sevenfold pioneered the metalcore sound with Waking the fallen, thus creating the sun genre
@@justanothermando8834 False, Avenged Sevenfold didn't invent Metalcore. It was created by Hardcore Bands that experimented a fusion between Beatdown Hardcore, Groove Metal, Heavy Metal and Death Metal. Bands like Earth Crisis, Merauder, Shai Hulud, Strife, Hatebreed and Integrity are early examples.
Then during the 2000s Bands like A7X, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Bullet for My Valentine and Parkway Drive pioneered MELODIC Metalcore, that took the Metalcore sound and fused it with the guitar melodies found in Melodic Death Metal, and adding a bit of post-hardcore to the formula
this is why i never understood metal elitists that like death but not metalcore/deathcore cos its "not metal". reason why i personally like death is cos its basically just metalcore/deathcore without the cleans and the last time i said that i had bunch of elitists said i was wrong and they're nothing alike
@@perro7391 Metal fans arguing over metal genre and who created this or that ....All I see right now are a bunch of little school girls arguing at the playground "yea" "no" "uh huhh" "nu uhhh"
@@brandonduet7771 whatever bruh
As soon as I hear unholy confessions I knew knives and pens was about to be played
First time I ever heard that song I started cracking tf up. Were they trying to rip off that song?
@@cherryfroggodoubt it, it's just an easy combination. If you played guitar you'd know
@@cherryfroggo there's only so many notes in the minor scale
That Padge guitar in the back is sick man.
burning low by too late for roses
knives and pen amazing riffs
5-7-8
7-8-10-12
Nothing else exists on the fretboard.
3-1-0 if you're feeling adventurous and wanna get srs
Nah the real scale is 0-1-3-5-7-8-12 in CGCFAD or AEADGBE
@@thedarkwinds2022i be throwin 10 in there if im feelin silly
7-9-10-11 if you feeling a little exotic
Nah mate 7 5 3 1 2..... and of course 3 again.
You just made me realise why I like all three of these tracks! 😂
Ok, where are the other 2 riffs?
yeah thats what i wanna know
Not The American Average by Asking and Knives and Pens by BVB
Assuming this was sarcasm, but each drum fill separates transitions to completely different songs by different artists.
As I lay dying. Middle school flashbacks.
Black Veil Brides - Knives and Pens. For those that are wondering.
''As I Lay dying - Reinvention has entered the chat''
I never realize that asking Alexandria and black veil brides Sounds similar. Thx. Good perf
Ikr i heard a BVB song the other day and I thought it was AA for a sec 😂
What ? That is Amazing!
Dam that's crazy I never noticed that lol
Love the tank top
Every band was 5 7 8. Once I started learning the guitar I realized how much riffs sound almost identical
I feel good because I had these 3 songs on my playlist before I seeing this video :D
Bro knives and pens is so unbelievably easy when you get into the "intermediate" stage
You couldn't be more correct , the intro riff is piss easy , but the one thing that I keep having a small hiccup over is the before the chorus 20th fret shit
FERK YEE DUDE 🤘 I'm always a sucker for dat 050708 jank lmao
0578 in drop d will never die!
A7x made that riff sound the best too
in the intro im thought was "spirit crusher"
Rip Jimmy the rev Sullivan!! Love you man!!
Human at sight, monster at heart...
With knife and pens i will make a latte..!!
Love those guitars my friend. That Rhoads pro is super sweet! Also that BFMV LTD.. MMMhmmm! \,,/
写着柔声细语弹着高增益RIFF😂
There are two riffs that although aren't metal core, they are similar: in the song Parasite Eve of BMTH after the first chorus most of all you can hear a badass riff, and in 2022 Muse released the song Won't Stand Down and a very similar riff can be heard before and after the choruses
I just knew it was gonna include Unholy Confessions
Revenge Attack! by Avenger is the first use of this riff to my knowledge.
This is the metalcore counterpart to Smoke on the Water, except I don’t know more than one song that starts with 0-3-5.
That Flying V is dope as fuck
its a jackson Randy Rhoads.
Don't forget early bullet for my valentine
A7x, asking alexandria, black veil brides
whats the BVB song (the 3rd one)?
@@summondarknesssim
@@summondarknessknives and pens
@@enzobauzasoriano1267 daaaaamn his version is better than the original xD
Sweet guitar 👍
Say goodbye - i killed the prom queen
Ah the 578
Not gonna live knives and pens rips 🤟🏻🤟🏻
I like knives and pens one the best (im not biased at all I swear 😂)
That third riff sounded like “confessions of an unholy trooper”
It should be 1,000,000 similar metalcore riffs.
Hmm guitarist from her last sight 🤔
Yes that is me 🫡
Love your guys music can't wait to watch you guys be the next bfmv
Knives and pens BVB riff mixed in 😍
Only 50 year olds say 50 year olds shouldnt play video games lol. The younger generations will be playing video games until they die
Thank God this guy is gay
Sounds a lot like 90s and early 2000s Swedish Göteborgian Melodeath too haha.
So... Death were the fathers of death and technical death metal... And the fathers of metalcore... Interesting
This is like burning low - too late for roses
When people realise that it's always just been Electric Eye by Judas Priest...
Man, that Bc Rich behind you looks freaking sick!
Matt tuck's signature i'm assuming.
Spirit crusher
Sorry you’re not a Winner
The last it's the black veil brides?
Asking alexandria, avendged sevenfold and black veil brides .... old stuff
unholy & the american😍
1: UNHOLY CONFESSIONS.
2: Not The American Average.
3: ?
You forgot "Crawling through Knives" by in flames. Very very similar. Suppose you could write a book naming all the 5-7-8 riffs. My favourite to play is "empty inside" by all that remains
When you listen to in flames or at the gates once
And they all sound like Death
Yep, specially "Spirit crusher"
1. Unholy confessions
2. Not the american average (maybe?)
3. Knifes and pens
Name of second and third riff? First I know it Avenged Sevenfold - The unholy. maybe😅
Doesn’t impress me.continue your musical journey brother
Scream Air Fire
WOW
I thought it one or them kinda sounded like blackend
The annoying thing about old school metalcore. The drop c 5-7-8 riffs that all sound similar
Good job but melodic is a simple follow. Explore other other options with other opportunities. I appreciate the the video though in Advance
So you picked a genre that generally sounds the same (miss me with y’all’s bullshit) and act surprised when the riffs are similar.
All of them are the same, aside from lead guitarist and vocalists you literally can't tell one metalcore band from another. Just like most of the "core" genres they all use the same song structure/themes/lyrics, the same cords just in a different order and thr same breakdowns. Metalcore is not bad but it's one of the most boring metal genres behind deathcore in my opinion, deathcore is just metalcore with 7 to 9 string guitars and vocalists that are trying to sound like the offspring of an grizzly bear and a crocodile that has it's nuts in a bear trap.
If the riff is creatuve and enjoyable itw not metalcore
Frail words Collapse is one of the best metal albums hands down and As I Lay Dying used this entire riff and variations of it for the whole album lol
Sounds like that black veil brides song.
glad someone else also realised they sound similar.
lmk when u play the next riff
Suffocating under words of sorrow, aswell
If the riff doesn’t have an open strum between every note is it even a metalcore riff?
Es lo que me aburrio del metalcore cuando tocaba guitarra la similitud de los riff de la epoca
What's the 3rd riff? apparently is from BVB but what song?
How this Song is Called?
Avenged Sevenfold - Unholy Confessions
Asking Alexandria - Not The American Average
Black Veil Brides - Knives and Pens
Plagio's to chuck form death
hey, anybody know the guitar on the left? love the headstock
Bvb wins this one. Tho As I lay dying is still the best.
no one in this comment section knows they both got it from at the gates
A7x vs black vail brides 😅😅😅 real
Knives in pens was always my favorite of the metal core riffs
Same!! It was the first BVB song I could ever play on guitar
Bullet for my valentine - The poison also has a riff that sound similar with these
Not poison, suffocating under words of sorrow pretty similar
Pumped-up dudes are kind of a staple in metalcore. I see that's still the case. For some reason, the genre just stimulates insane muscle gainz.
Attack Attack has entered the chat
What happens if I can’t check my MySpace when we get there? 🤣🤘🏼
originates from avenger - revenge attack
You can actually go back farther. It's just Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones with distortion and palm muted.
