  • From crypto entrepreneurs in North Korea to major banks in the City of London, money laundering is everywhere.
Money laundering is about making illicitly earned cash look like it came from a legitimate source. It’s hard to say exactly, but the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime estimates that anywhere between $800 billion to $2 trillion of dirty cash is ‘washed’ through the global economy every year.
This is the Business of Crime, a new series looking at how different parts of the criminal economy function. In this episode, we’re looking at money laundering - how it's done and why it’s so important for criminals around the world to clean their dirty cash.

Walk in. Buy in at a table game. Roll dice a few times cash out. Place chips in a bag. Go to another game. Buy in with new dirty cash. Play a few hands. Color up. Place chips in bag. Do the same over and over and over. Go to the teller. Cash out and pay the win-loss tax form. Easy peasy.

The fact that banks and other monetary systems will not be held accountable tells you the governments in power cannot hold them accountable. Why? Either the government is weaker than the bank or the government is profiting from the bank.

@@mickym.6711 A death sentence is proven to be an ineffective deterrent for "blue collar" crime. People committing those kinda crimes just fundamentally don't weigh up such penalties before doing their dastardly deeds.
But I bet ya $20, introduce an effective death penalty to bank CEOs - a group that literally sociopathically calculates whether it is worth violating the law, regardless of the harm it causes to society, and all of a sudden you'll give those maniacs an incentive to reevaluate their little "cost to benefit" analysis.
