- From crypto entrepreneurs in North Korea to major banks in the City of London, money laundering is everywhere.
Money laundering is about making illicitly earned cash look like it came from a legitimate source. It’s hard to say exactly, but the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime estimates that anywhere between $800 billion to $2 trillion of dirty cash is ‘washed’ through the global economy every year.
This is the Business of Crime, a new series looking at how different parts of the criminal economy function. In this episode, we’re looking at money laundering - how it's done and why it’s so important for criminals around the world to clean their dirty cash.

Their needs to be an investigation into how churches and charities are used to launder proceeds of crime. I would think cash donations and tax-free status would make this an irresistible money laundry for criminals.

also nothing an estate agent does is more skilled than a market trader combined with an office administrator.. it isn't a job that should make ordinary people less able to afford a house - and we dont need millions of estate agent companies that cause millions more hours of checking that they aren't laundering money or dodging tax - We over-reward people for doing basic sh*t like making an advert and a logo and call it "innovating" - while technical literacy is absolute dogsh*t and treated as a niche in countries like the uk and gets f*ck all investment or allowance that doesn't have to go through big business or finance systems that already get a lot of allowances from the government

Imagine what the US government officials does.
Here we can see VICE in it's true form: giving interesting information on cool topics... but wrapping it in a politically correct and biased hull. What is a few billions or trillions per YEAR in comparison with almost 100 trillions (worth of the global economy); let's not talk about complex financial structure to dodge taxes; let's not talk about fake art galeries to launder billions; let's not talk about the money-printing-machines of our countries....
And what exactly will you do about it!?
US government has invaded many countries, ocuupied a dessert nation for 2 decades, with $billions thrown for financing the military operations.
Doing what it pleases without any backlash.
You won't do anything about it, even if you possessed adequate evidence linking corruption to the US government!

It's easy up to a certain amount. Millions is much more difficult. The IRS agents aren't a buncha dummies. They know approx how much your restaurant/laundromat/car wash is raking in.

The fact that banks and other monetary systems will not be held accountable tells you the governments in power cannot hold them accountable. Why? Either the government is weaker than the bank or the government is profiting from the bank.

I bet the folk in the comments here could think of a more literal death penalty to levy on those banks and their banksters.
I mean, just a little bit of jail time would be nice.
@@jacobedward2401 I mean, you do know the number of crime lord's that continue to operate inside prisons isn't exactly non-negligible, right? The way you or I think of a prison sentence, or the prospect of one, is completely different from the paradigm through which they view the world.
@@somecuriosities I can assure you that bank executives would not enjoy prison...but they'll never go so what difference does it make?
@@mickym.6711 A death sentence is proven to be an ineffective deterrent for "blue collar" crime. People committing those kinda crimes just fundamentally don't weigh up such penalties before doing their dastardly deeds.
But I bet ya $20, introduce an effective death penalty to bank CEOs - a group that literally sociopathically calculates whether it is worth violating the law, regardless of the harm it causes to society, and all of a sudden you'll give those maniacs an incentive to reevaluate their little "cost to benefit" analysis.
