      @alecsmith5300 Ummmm😂everything points to them doing exactly that! The reporter said it in this video🤦🏽‍♀️ and it's been verified that the ship sent a mayday call, which gave officers enough time to stop traffic. Rewatch and research for yourself. And in the live footage, as the ship was approaching the bridge, you can clearly see when traffic had stopped. 😒It doesn't hurt to double-check before commenting.

      @RicardoMartinez-oh9sq It's the transit police, MTA. They are stationed at the bridge, the tolls, and other forms of transportation throughout the state. I live in the area and have taken this bridge countless times since moving to Maryland in 2001. The Maryland Transit Authority has a building literally at the bridge. So, yes, the officers could respond very quickly because they are already there.

    • @kyrilascully7828
      @kyrilascully7828 Месяц назад +3

      Yes, they have indeed been using sonar, but they can't get to those cars because--#1 darkness of the water (no lights), current conditions; #2 they are pancaked under tons of debris from the bridge. It's like when those condos collapsed in Miami Beach--do you remember? They spent days looking for victims, and that was in excellent weather conditions on dry land. Also when the Twin Towers collapsed. Same thing. So this is what is happening regarding the sonar technology. We just need to be patient.

      @milepost4846 Месяц назад +3

      @@phunk8607 I would think they could just build them around the current structures before yet another disaster happens. A bridge over Tampa Bay in Florida, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, went down in May, 1980 in a similar accident with a huge inbound bulk ship to Tampa, FL during a storm, 35 lives were lost. The Skyway's replacement bridge had numerous "dolphins" constructed around it for protection. After the Florida collapse, you would think many other states would look at themselves and their ports with bridges over major shipping lanes and question if they could be next and add these "dolphin" barriers or at least boulders or something to ground a out of control vessel before hitting major piers/supports, but obviously not, money will overule safety. Now here we are with Baltimore and others involving barges in that 44 year time frame.

    If the US President has ordered the Feds to "move heaven and earth" to open the port, I imagine once they verify there are no bodies in the shipping channel section, they will have the Army Corp of Engineers or some federal contractor come in and blow the truss sections into manageable pieces and will haul them away and clear the shipping channel. The rest then can be done at what ever pace it takes. Traffic will be bad for quite a while, but they are going to want to clear that shipping channel ASAP.

      The crew were in the middle area, to the inside area at the opposite support that wasnt hit. With nowhere to run. Traffic was quickly cut off at each end to keep any more traffic from entering the bridge. All this happened less than 6 to 8 minutes from the first may-day call. The bridge was like 1.6 miles long. 185 feet high. The ship was well over 900 ft long, traveling at 8 knots, weighing 95,000,000 tons.

      @@KAT-dg6el. I agree. Portions on both ends were intact. There should have been enough general vehicles for them to get off. 1.6 mi can easily be covered in 5 minutes. Was there some protocol requiring them to try to get all vehicles off? There is a whole lot more to this story.

    • @jimbobeire
      @jimbobeire Месяц назад +2

      @@KAT-dg6el No, they didn't have time to drive up there. If a squad car tried to drive up there, it would have ended up in the water too. The reason they could stop traffic is because there's always cop cars at ends of the bridge cos of toll plaza, inspection area, speed traps... so they just rolled into the lane with the flashing lights.
      If the mayday call came a minute or two earlier, maybe someone who had the radio frequency of the construction crew would have gotten in touch with them and given them a heads up.
      So many people had to be called from the pilot to the port, to the cops, and then the crew, that time just ran out for the construction crew. They probably had no idea they were in danger until the bridge shook from impact.

    The Lord is always a part of the before, during and after. Knowing what we should pray for even before we ask. Pray in sincerity and truth.
    Dundalk, Maryland was my home town, where I witnessed the building of the original bridge and experienced or know of it's positive outcome. Now am finding grief; shared with others, for the tragedy. Know of the extended effect this tragic event will cause in many aspects and people.

    Why hasn’t the captain told what happened from the inside of the ship?

      The Captain is going to be talking to the Coast Guard and the NTSB, not the media.

      Probably he's being interviewed by authorities and has been instructed by the authorities and his legal represtation not to talk to the media yet!

      Well maybe he can pause sending our resources overseas for a while, when there is an apparent need for them right here right now in our own country. We can't have our bridges crumbling with them still sitting in the waters below while dealing with arguments in congress about how much money we should be sending to other countries.

    I dont wanna poke holes in anything but seems like the ship would have had a generator how about if this happened in the middle of the Atlantic among other ships…

      It does happen in the middle of the Atlantic, pacific, Indian Ocean, Red Sea, Adriatic Sea, etc… losing propulsion and maneuverability is a fact of life, when at sea.
