As a painter for 35 years I can tell you that cleaning anything with WD40 that will eventually need to be repainted will cause latex paint to fish eye and fail to bond requiring either a degreaser or oil based primer before painting a time consuming and potentially expensive repair.

I was advised by a guy at a local hardware store to never spray WD40 onto door locks (that what I was after) because is will eventually clog the lock. You should only use graphite powder.

All of these are great tips. The only thing I would add is to use a dry lubricant on door hinges and locks instead of the WD-40. Dust is automatically attracted to anything wet so after a while the dust will collect in the door hinges and locks which will make it harder to use. You can find the dry lubricants right next to the WD-40 any place that sells WD-40

WD40 contains petroleum oil! Do not ever use on home surfaces that are not supposed to be oiled! Do not use it on things that are in touch with food. It is just like putting motor oil on them! If you do, then afterwards you have to clean it very well with a soap, which usually does the work itself without the wd40. It contains a hydrocarbon (something like propane) that can clean stuff and is anticorrosive, hence the mixture of oil and propane makes the "magic". In fact it is very simple explanation what it does and how it does it. But do not "clean" with it as it leaves oil.

Most of your suggestions are not a hacks it's what wd-40 is intended for, BTW if your dead bolt sticks turn the lock so the shaft is sticking out, spray the shaft then retract the shaft into the lock so it could lubricate the inside parts, the way you spray really did nothing for the lock.

Wasps hate WD40. Spray area with WD40 for a wasp repellent.

How to properly clean a toilet take and mix a 50/50 solution of vinegar and oil free acne wash with 2% salicylic acid. Wash all surfaces of the toilet this makes a toilet perfectly clean and better than other cleansers I have tried. It makes a toilet actually feel good to use.

I do all of these but use mobile 1. It’s difficult to pour but the results are good.
