    RV Survey
    mikeandlauren....
In the last 2 months we've been working on three projects:
    1. Finding new real estate investments.
    2. Finishing our used car buying guide the "Paid Off Car Club."
    3. Getting our dealers license.
We're going to start traveling in an RV full time-ish in 2019, but we wanted to find a way to pay our fuel costs along the way. We considered the transport business but found the insurance was too expensive.
On a whim we decided to see how much it would cost to start an RV dealership and to our surprise it was extremely affordable. So we did it. The hope is we can buy an RV, drive it for a few weeks or months to make sure all the systems work, and then sell it at a great price to a viewer. We would then deliver it to somewhere we wouldn't normally travel and see the USA through a different lens.

Glad to see Lauren in a few videos again and glad to see that you've got the used car buying course put together; I remember you talking about that several years ago when you were doing financial videos. You guys should change your banner for your channel. I can't remember the last time you had regular Friday financial videos and its been a while since you've been regular on weekly videos at all. I really enjoyed the financial videos and that's why I originally subscribed and I also bought the Udemy course you did for Personal Finance Masterclass. I understood when you moved more toward the diy that it generated more RUclips income, but, since you are financially independent now, have you thought about going back to the less profitable finance videos?

Remember that time you where going to be makers... then full time youtubers... then makers on the move... then... then... then... how pissed is the company that gave you a brand new trailer for your "show" that you used like 3 times? It is like every video you make you have a different path, it makes it very hard for anyone to take you seriously. Your making a car buyers guide? How many cars have you bought and sold in the last 10 years... like 5 to 10? is that really enough to charge people your your expert advise? I only watch your channel when I need comic relief.

Here's the cool thing a lot of the haters are missing: If you hadn't obsessed about woodworking back at the church property, you wouldn't have had the idea to build a mobile-workshop-trailer-conversion-RV. And without that trailer, you wouldn't have found the warehouse to park the trailer at. And without finding the parking spot, you never would have met the owner who subsequently sold the whole warehouse to you. So yea, y'all like to start and quit a lot of projects. But all creative people are like that. And all things happen for a reason. And all things are connected. Cheers bud! Happy for you guys! :)

I'm tired of this channel. You are going in too many directions, never seems to finish what you begin. I remember subscribing to this channel because I was interested in the trailer conversion. Now it's gone, you bought a warehouse, retired, unretired, lived in a RV and now you become a car/boat/rv dealer. Way too ecclectic for me. I'm sorry. I'm out. Unsubscribing.

Eric Gauthier that’s kind of how I felt at first too. Like I always wanted to see that wood shop get finished. What about the junk removal company he started and scrapped in one day? (Hurricane damage removal)... I think they’ve always been like this. I remember them saying awhile back how they had a cleaning company for a little bit. Mike and Lauren just have business ADD or even RUclips channel ADD and I’m ok with that. The original reason I subscribed to this channel was because I was into the woodworking side of things. I feel like they are steering away from that but again, I’m ok with that. I have always found myself coming back to watch and being pleasantly surprised with how much I liked the video. Their interests always line up with mine. I’ve had a fascination with RVs for years now and I’m really into their new idea. I think their RUclips channel is built on the idea that you don’t have to stick to one thing and you can move on to the next idea if you’re not happy.

Awesome! I love that you're thinking outside of the normal areas for additional potential income streams.
You're getting some flak for your references to "retirement" in this and your last video and that is understandable since you are neither in nor out of retirement in any conventional way. I get why you put that word in the titles, though, as "financially independent" doesn't have even a little bit the pull that "retired" does.
And to be fair, in MANY of your videos (including this one), you stress that it's the FI part of FIRE that matters more than the RE.
So yeah, I'm continually inspired by your unique journey to FI, so keep up the updates!

The transporting thing is called running hot shots so many people are in that now and sometimes you'll get stranded out there. My dad done it for a little while then got into transporting pets. On the flipping cars I do it here as a side gig. But on start up don't invest to much money into one car. I usually buy wrecked and repair drive it some then sell it. Often I have carlots wanting my cars before I'm done. I was going to try to do a RUclips channel on it but man I can't ever find the time. Also I don't know which auction you were looking into but Manheim is a very well known dealers auction and they're everywhere

Lol, didn't see that coming. In my experience RV sales people rank near bottom on the sales ladder for slippiness. So, I am sure you will be a breather of fresh air and like unicorns in the industry. I would personally have a problem with receiving $ for RV's as they are likely the worst made, over priced pieces of poop ever made. But that is what makes a sales person, RV's are just the widgets used to separate people from their $. Best of luck.

I had a college roommate that got his dealer's license. He would get a list of all the vehicles at the car action, make a little flyer with some of the deals, and put a flyer up on campus with the deals. He would let people know what he thought he could get the car for, then say what the blue book was for it, and would tell people they could split the difference. So if he could get a car for 10k at the auction, but it was blue booking for 14k, the person could buy it for 12k and my roommate made 2k. Like wholesaling real estate but for cars. And he was very upfront about the price with people.
Then me and a bunch of roommates would go down to the auction with him to drive them back. There were many months he made > 10k by doing this. He bought a summer cabin while we were roommates together. It was an idea that worked perfectly (this was around 2004).
I think your idea can work really well. I've seen something similar to it!

    • @mattcantstop

You're going to need to check licensing laws in FL to see if you need a Class A Non CDL license or similar since these RV will be registered to a business. If they were going to be registered to you individually it wouldn't be a problem but since its for a business you might need a different driving license especially for the transporting of the RV to a buyer since you will be getting paid to do that.
