What alot of people also overlook about Larry is the fact that he was able to be such a good scorer with Parish and Mchale who were scoring 18 and 22 pts a game themselves during Larry's prime and he still managed to average 28 pts a game for 3 or 4 years of his prime. You also had DJ getting his 15 a game as well so larry had to be efficient with his shots. Larry also finished 2nd for DPOY in 82-83 so yeah he could play some defense as you said...He had a 9 year run that was was insane... his rookie year he was 4th for MVP. The next 6 years he was either 1st or 2nd for MVP with years 8 and 9 finishing 2nd and 3rd....with the exception of his last year in the NBA Larry never finished out of the top 10 in the MVP race
I myself give Larry the nod. His entire career he had the “inferior” teams vs Magic & all by himself he shaped his teams to be better than anyone expected.
Bird was also a great passer a much better free throw shooter and a better defender as far as magic and bird comparison magic wasn’t even the best player on his team Kareem was and two of magic championships were won because of Kareem
Are you sure championships should be apart of it? It would be one thing if you would say. Hey Magic has 5 and Bird has 3. You would then say, who they played if it was a different time. But they came in the league together and 3 of those finals go head to head. If Larry was the better player, those chips would fall in Larry's favor. This would be like saying Frazier was better than Ali. Make it make sense. The best show out and whoever is left standing in the end gets the node. Always

@@BU_TVYou are welcome!
Excellent commentary, BU.
I just love both of them!!!
Both would be so fun to play with but I would agree with Phil.
It was great they enter the league at the same time. Both are class acts.
You were right. Bird had 3× NBA All-Defensive Second Team (1982-1984)

Bird can do all that Magic does, but shoots much better than Magic. Bird gets the edge.

1-on-1 I gotta put Jordan #1 … 5-on-5 though? Bird the best player ever and the NBA is all 5-on-5
i agree. Jordan the best individual player.. Bird tho, the best TEAM player.. AND he can iso AND was clutch.. probably even more so than Jordan
