I remember thinking "I'll just read the raw (Japanese uncleaned chapter) and start to work on it at home." Huge mistake, as I started to cry in the library seeing Asuma dead....
I was told not to cry since I was young, but I recognise that it works only when you are not sad enough, we are just human. Ok, I can hold it most of the time, but not with those naruto's sick ost.

That it's not unmanly or anything. Sure, crying about small things is silly, but about big things like losing someone? Or when you're moved or out of compassion? Please do. It's genuine, real and it shows that you care. And caring is good, it's what makes and keeps us human.
I also love how they all stand there and let him sew the other guys head back onto his body. and then when it is done then they attack. So nice ninjas. Sad that there are so many plot holes in naruto now fights..... the show would be more awesome if it was better written.

The first real pain in Shippuden... It still hits me hard every time. And if nobody pointed it out yet... Asuma died in Shippuden in episode 80. In the original Naruto, the Third Hokage, his dad, also died in episode 80. RIP to the Sarutobi men who go out protecting the Kings! Also in the manga, Shikamaru started smoking after this. Guess they cant show a teenager smoking in the anime though!

The maturity level in Shikamaru when he told Ino and Choji who where freaking out to stop and listen to his final words, he didn't want it but knew it had to happen.
this is a really cool fight, love the different moves used here, the demonstration of powers, we finally see what Asuma is capable of, Hidan is insane and has some insane powers, really like the way he looks when he does the ritual and also his scythe is just super cool :) this was quite a tactical battle and they have been bringing up shogi quite a lot, seeing Asuma and Shikamaru play it, it fits perfectly since the first kanji in Hidan's name stands for the rook while Kakuzu's stands for the bishop :) the practices of Jashinism bear resemblance to the beliefs of Thuggee, a secret society in India known for their ritualistic practices of murder to their victims :) the symbol Hidan wears for Jashinism, that triangle with a circle, the Philosopher's stone, often associated with immortality, is symbolised that way as well :) plus the symbol he draws on the floor resembles the reversed pentagram, which was used by Western cults as a means to symbolise evil and attract evil forces, so in combination with his design and weapon of choice he is sort of like the devil or grim reaper :D valiant effort by Izumo and Kotetsu, they also got to demonstrate some skill, but no way they can beat Kakuzu :P this was so well directed, it was so impactful, handled Asuma's death perfectly, Hiruzen got his funeral in the OG ep 80 and here Asuma died in ep 80, rest in peace
This was such an amazing fight! Honestly they did the best they could with the information they had at the time. These Akatsuki members prove to be very difficult opponents and we still don't know much about what Kakuzu is like. Hidan is such a frightening villain to face, you can't do much if he's immortal. RIP Asuma Sarutobi.

(Granny Chiyo's moment of silence, and Kakashi's back story being the other two you've seen, and two others you'll see later.) Ugh at this point in the series i was reading fan translations of the manga cuz i had caught up on the anime. I was on a family vacation when i read this part. It was the last day of vacation, and i was using the complimentary computer in the lobby of the hotel to read the manga while my family was getting ready, bruh i was legit crying in the lobby, not like hysterical or anything but i was definitely crying. Absolutely put a damper on the last day of the vacation for me. RIP Asuma.
I also cried at naruto's speech to Zabuza, and Haku and Zabuza's final moments under the snow. What I liked about that fight: What makes it humiliating was that Hidan and Kakuzu gave out all these handicaps, and still won; like Kakuzu not butting in, to Hidan toying with his ceremony, they're not taking the fight as seriously. Including how long it took reinforcements to arrive, so they took their sweet time. Especially when Hidan stabbed himself in the leg to toy with Asuma, instead of letting him hit with his Chakra Blades, which due to the curse, kill him instantly. Basically saved Asuma's life some time just to show off his powers and toy with him. What made it sadder was: If Asuma wasn't wearing a Guardian Shinobi symbol, then Kakuzu wouldn't be that involved and would rather retreat with the money he already had from Chiriku.
If I had a cent for each time a character from Japanese media turned into a door, I would have 2 cents. Which is not a lot, but it's weird it happened twice. The other guy was in Persona 3.

Rest in Peace Asuma! I just couldn't believe how much character development Asuma got in fact I used to think of him as the very definition of the AVERAGE Jonin in this show. He wasn't one of the main Jonin characters like Kakashi, he wasn't specialist in something like Geingitsu like Kurinai, he was the the physically strongest like Gai. I can't believe I saw him as the definition of average but there is so much to his character and not just because he happened to be the son of the 3rd. In fact that suprising detail somehow didn't do much to change my image of him because there was so many more things about him that made him relevant other than who he was related to. So despite having a famous fauther he overcame living in his shadow and became his own person. Finally it may not have been revealed on youtube quite yet but I know you saw it on Twitch/Patreon who the "King" is. Yes they eventually say that the King is the next generation in general but to a specific person like Asuma it was more specific. In the last two arcs Asuma was willing to risk his life to protect a "King" and that "King" that was a single person but not the Feudal Lord or the Hokage. The "King" that Asuma was willing to die for was... his unborn child!
I have to say the anime did alot more justice for Asuma than the manga. In the Manga there was no development for Asuma and his group just faced Hidan and Kakuzu and then he died. It was sad but it was like "Oh no that guy died, poor Ino, Shika and Cho." But the anime delved more into his past and who he is as a person and even featured him in a filler arc so that as viewers we can feel that we lost an actual character that we started to care about and we are sad to actually loose Asuma and not just feel bad for who he left behind. I always thought this was one of the best liberties the studio took with this series. Sorry for the long post but definitely wanted to show gratitude for the studio for this much needed change, even over a decade later.

Fillers expand on my favorite characters, sure they can't change dramatically in skill level, unless you're the Boruto anime... which I will say no spoilers, but the "filler" arcs in that anime continuation have new powers that just aren't used again later on, but it's fine to have them anyway for the cool factor.
I am a bit surprised that you mention the Spam of Pain. At least, in the RUclips comments, I have fortunately seen a lot of restraint - at least compared to other reaction channels. This is definitely one of the saddest moments in the show, though there are plenty of tragic moments yet to come. Still, that's something that sets this show apart. It digs deep into the emotional well, at times, and it's one of the few shows of its type, that pauses now and then for a full funeral. It's also a show that doesn't always protect you from tragedy. Sometimes, though, tragedy IS averted, and you're allowed to feel the full joy of that, such as when the Sand Village rejoiced for Gaara. As you already know, sorrow may only last for an episode or two. Justice will come.

Asuma is the Lamest Jonin..wahahaha His Father fought 2 reincarnated Hokage and a Sannin (3v1) and he had so many jutsu on his arsenal and won, yet Asuma only had a few ninjutsu and his wind Chakra Blade, it's a 4v1 yet they still lost. Granted he doesn't the akatsuki's ability, but the goes with the Akatsuki, they didn't know Asuma's team's ability.
