Of all the pedals I own, this damn stick of butter is my absolute favorite. I cant live without it and never turn it off. I only touch it if I'm switching from single coil to humbucker guitar. Im boxing the other ones away once I get my Katana next week.. all but this one
The coolest guitarist on RUclips, effortless and silky smooth big yin! I see guitar guitar is opening down south next week so hopefully no long untill the Edinburgh store is open 😃😃
@@paulstaffordcook8799 apparently you have to book an appointment and you are assigned a one hour slot to try out the guitar you like. So it will be a longer wait for me as I want to try them all lol
Compressor is a strange thing, sometimes I love it and cant go without it and sometimes i want the full range of sound. I bought and sold many Compression Pedals because of it. But I think the Mooer stays on my board just for some sustain for leads or for funky rythm stuff.. Great playing as always!
My favorite compressor right now is the Origin Effects Cali76, because its very clean, has a ton of headroom and works like a real studio compressor... plus it has a mix knob to blend in your uncompressed signal. Its really fantastic. The make a special one called the Slide Rig that is very much for country playing.
@@paulstaffordcook8799 Def their favourite comp - I also had the Xotic SP Comp and it was fantastic - also had the mix knob - they really change the way a comp can be used. My favourite thing about a compressor - CS2 specifically is the way they can light harmonic overtones out from a clean sound - a great sound
That's it alright, went to Nashville last year and nearly every guitar player in every bar window was packing a Katana ! So i just got me one, cos i could see if all you need is an Uber to the bar, guitar in one hand, Katana in the other..inski..outski and you sound amazing. I love mine and like you Paul have left the tone studio alone, just needed a great clean sound, and thanks to you and some other fine gents, i have poached and wheedled your settings to suit my ear. Its gonna revolutionise rehearsals :) Brilliant vid Mate, Yay !
Cheers Barry👍. Yeah, it’s amusing for me to watch it back with fresh eyes, and spot the various influences. You’re right about Danny Gatton and Roy B. Also some Albert Lee. And maybe a bit of Barry Gutteridge if we listen carefully.....
Great sound Paul, I'll need to have a play with Tone Studio and check the compressor and see if I can get close. Did you know that with the Boss foot controller you can now have eight preset sounds plus the panel settings? It's definitely worth looking into for another video or maybe I should do one! ;0)
Thank you Anto 👍. Yes I agree, I saw him live a number of years back in Edinburgh. Great player, and a real pedigree (Elvis, John Denver etc etc). My Dad met him. James Burton wanted to play one of his signature telecasters at the gig. GuitarGuitar Edinburgh told him that my Dad had purchased an American James Burton Telecaster some years back. Long story short, my Dad brought it to the gig for James to play 😀. You can see the guitar in this video ruclips.net/video/YMAcuCqlB3Q/видео.html
Great playing filling all the different parts by yourself...as I mentioned before your are inspiring me to play my Tele with more passion and expression.I.played many different guitars before realizing that a tele can do just about any sound....except maybe for a gary moore type balad where a les paul will have more organic resonance....if you ever get the chance or have the time I would be very interested to hear if you can get a les paul sustain and full bodied tone out of your special tele and the neck pick up...Jimmy Page played stairway to heaven on a tele right?
Thanks Steve, that’s actually a good idea for a video.... Trying to get that Tele neck pickup sounding as close as possible to a Les Paul. I’ve now added that to my list of videos to make. Cheers Steve 👍
I find when playing single coils I have to play with more effort than humbuckers will this pedal give me that effortless buttery feel I get from playing humbuckers but on single coils?
Hi thisisme. I know what you mean about the forgiving nature of a warm humbucker, compared to the more harsh / exposed sound of a single coil.... And so yes, a compressor pedal (including this one) will tame the spikes and yet will tighten the bottom end, and just generally smooth things out. Personally, I don’t like playing with compression.... except to achieve that Nashville country sound. I’m a control freak and so I like to be the one controlling my highs and lows (and not the pedal). But that’s just me 🤣
Great video and amazing playing! I don't use the tone studio either, there's something I don't like about switching the computer on and doing a bunch of clicks before playing. Though I admit it has great sound capabilities for recording :)
Hi Paul ! Great Lessons ! Perfect Timing with Tom's Country Lessons ;-) What Gauge has your strings on your Tele ? Btw : I have the same Comp for years on my Board. It's Perfect. I saw Albert Lee last year or so in a small Blues Club here in Stuttgart/ Germany. All I saw was his Guitar an a Fender Bandmaster Stack. No Pedals on the floor. Maybe he had a Delay Unit behind the Amp. Or they bouild it in the Amp . Don`t know. But there was this Slapback Sound he uses for all his Tricks . Great Evening.
Man, I’m jealous, I’ve never seen Albert in the flesh. He seems like such a nice chap, I’d love to have seen him. His playing has been such a big part of my teenage years, where I’d listen to Sweet Little Lisa, Country Boy, and all his Star Licks instruction tapes on VHS 🤣
Oh, meant to add, I’ve always used 11s on everything, except my Strat. On my Strat I’m experimenting with 10s. Not liking the results.... will probs go back to 11s 🤣

Hi Ivor. Glad you found Jim on RUclips. A very entertaining player. My 2 recommendations to get you to the heart of his playing are his City Winery performance of “Blues for Roy” on RUclips ruclips.net/video/0laFe1CLhlY/видео.html, and his song “Nang Nang” on his Dream Dictionary album, which is on Apple Music (and probably Spotify etc). Hi Gui, thanks man 👍. Yes, I never use effects loops. Everything always goes into the front of my amp. Nice and simple. The reason I don’t use effects loops is that the sounds I tend to love come from players in the 60’s, who used gear built in the 50’s and 60’s, before amps had loops. I know there’s some technical disadvantages to doing it my way, but I just prefer simplicity. In addition, my Cornell and my Supro don’t have effects loops. Hope this helps 😀
