Thanks for touching on the topic. I think there still remains some unclarity considering the imbalance of the conflict. There is not really a back and forth. The indigenous popualtion of Palestine is living in the biggest open air prison worldwide. With the limited possibilities they have, they are still trying to occasionally disturb one of the most sophisticated armies in the world. This conflict is very one-sided. Further one has to keep in mind, that the Hamas was at least partially created the Mossad as a counterforce to the secular Palestinian resistance, the PLO. Divide and conquer. Hamas is the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood which was born in Egypt. In his book the 'devil's game' Robert Dreyfuss makes a strong case for the fact that the US has been supporting and even creating radical Islamic groups like the Muslim Brotherhood. Foreign minister Brzezinski bragged openly about the US and it's role financing and supporting the Taliban. Now concerning the recent events many have questioned how the Israeli intelligence could fail so badly. Reports of murdered babies have been debunked as fake news in the meantime. Historically the Jewish historian Illan Pappé compares the displacement and genocide of the indigenous Palestinian population with the American genocide of the native American tribes. The mindset is exactly the same. Essentially the history, tradition and claim to the land by the original inhabitants has disappear and must be replaced with a new narrative and a new people. He draws his arguments and positions largely from the Archives concerning the 1948 displacements of the Palestinians but also the work of a certain Patrick Wolfe who studied the "colonial mindset". The Israeli, American and Australian settlers had ver much in common. Pappé decisively described the situation as a fight of the oppressed (Palestinians) against the oppressors (a Zionist and rasctist Israeli state). Apart from Illan Pappé I truly recommend Norman Finkelstein who is one is one of the most educated and well-read academics on the Israel-Palestine conflict.
"This conflict is very one-sided." Are you referring to Israel vs Palestinians? Or Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Jordan, Qatar, the UN and other countries vs Israel?
@@sbearly This one in particular. As far as I know Israel is protected by western policies and I don't recall Yemen to have any say in Israeli affairs. They still live in mud houses and just mind their own business.
I urge you both not to tarnish Father McCarthy's illustrious name by dragging him into your narrow political agendas and viewpoints. Father McCarthy is a teacher of Nobel Peace Prize winners. He is also the preeminent Christian Apostle of Gospel Nonviolence in America. When it comes to Father McCarthy, you have only one responsibility, and that is read, study listen, learn and imbibe deeply of his great wisdom. We are most fortunate to learn from this great man of God..@@sbearly

I appreciate you posting this. I applaud Fr. McCarthy's courage to say something that shouldn't even be controversial but is due to circumstances.
Truly a blessing to hear from Fr. Charlie. He is a fountain of Christian wisdom.
I have tremendous respect for Father McCarthy. A voice of reason and sanity in an insane and unrealistic world.
Thanks for touching on the topic.
