The Gurkhas have a special relationship with Hong Kong. During the colonial era, the only reservist unit in Hong Kong, the Royal Hong Kong Regiment, was part of the order of battle of the 48th (Gurkha) Infantry Brigade, hence they wore the crossed kukri arm badge. The Regiment and the Brigade were unfortunately disbanded because of the handover, but we Hongkongers shall always remember the contribution of the Gurkhas to the defence of Hong Kong, and I am very glad to see how new Gurkhas are still so faithful to Britain and so proud of their identity.
