    Love the idea of using an oil extractor. Thanks

  • @philipsmithnyc
    @philipsmithnyc 2 года назад +3

    When using the extractor you don't need to place a tube all the way down, you just need to have a airtight seal at the top. The dipstick tube extends all the way down to the pan and Mercedes techs attached an airtight fitting at the top of the dip stick tube to perform the oil extraction.

    Great video and congrats on the new 221. Quick question - where do you find all of the correct oil specs, torque specs, amount of fluid, part numbers, etc. for your car?
    I have WIS, EPC, Vediamo all installed on my computer but I have no idea how to use them/navigate to find the correct info. I feel like a noob. I want to try my first oil change on my new to me m278 E550 and I don’t want to mess anything up by buying the wrong filter or oil. Thanks

      Most of that info I get via a combo of forums, owner's manuals, contacts at dealerships, and some info from WIS/EPC when required. I try to make the videos to make that info more concise and more easily accessible. Some of the ability to quickly locate it simply comes from being around cars for a long, long time too. Thanks for watching!

      maintenance on Mercedes is a bitch...My wife bought one and my DIY Mechanic skills have have been wack. I wish she had stuck with Mazda.

      Other potential maintenance issues aside, changing the oil look pretty easy in this Merc...don't even have to get under the car. I guess you like rolling around under your car getting dripped on?

    Thanks , but I didnt see the links to the oil additive or oil extractor, or funnel? You explained everything excellent. You made it look simple.

    Great video! What about any heavy particles that must settle at the bottom of the pan? (New to oil changes)

      I normally drain the pan every few years in my vehicles to remove any sediment, if any. Thanks for watching!

    Did you say add 5qt of liquid moly, or was that combined 5qts of oil and moly?

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  7 месяцев назад

      Not sure at which point you're referring to, but definitely not 5 quarts of the additive. Just one bottle of that and the rest of the standard oil fill in oil. Thanks for watching!

    Have you replaced your air intake flexible ducts yet? Those look like a different design from my GL550 which are unraveling.

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  2 года назад

      I have not yet, and per the VMI I was able to pull from Mercedes they haven't been done at a dealership either so I can only assume they're original. I've seen plenty of them totally destroyed though, so certainly not uncommon to have to replace them. Thanks for watching!

    Big change in using ceratec in the m278 engine? What have you noticed after using it ? Love your videos. New sub 👍🏻

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  2 года назад +1

      I like it, same as I do in all of my German engines. In the M278, it definitely quiets down the chain, that's the biggest benefit. Chain, tensioners, adjusters, etc. have all been done on my new white car, but on the old black one, they were getting worn out for sure...Ceratec helped a lot in that situation and I think will help reduce long term wear overall as well.

      Probably better ones out there now, but that's the most like-for-like listing that matches mine. Thanks for watching!

    Is this car reliable?

    • @redonKiLaus
      @redonKiLaus  3 года назад +1

      Somewhat - expect running costs to be higher due to the amount of items with which the car is equipped and the cost of parts to be higher with this having been an over-$100k car new. They've not let me down before, just expect to easily spend a few thousand dollars on repairs now and again. Thanks for watching!

      No better or worse IMO, it's just what Mercedes recommends for this engine as well as what is most available in my area. Thanks for watching!
