What surprises me about these Rastar RC cars is that they are always priced around the same level, no matter the vehicle type or level of detail. This one for example has opening doors, lots of fine details on the body and interior, plus graphics on the body. That makes it much more interesting than a more basic model that often has the same cost.
That is true. Cars such as the Bugatti Divo have lots of intricate details on the body that, for example, the Ferrari SF90 doesn't have. I have also seen some models with battery packs and USB charging included, priced at less than the equivalent model that uses 'AA' type batteries. This isn't logical at all. I must say that over the last few years, prices for Rastar products have fluctuated quite unpredictably and it is getting harder and harder to know when you are getting a good deal when buying.
There are a few new Rastar models that have been released in China during the latter part of 2023 and they always prove to be popular on this channel so I will be adding more to my collection. Hopefully, I will also be able to show you an upgrade project because I want to show how to convert a Rastar model to provide fully-proportional control and improved performance using hobby grade electronics.
Wow! Great model with excellent detail. I'm going to look for the 1/24 scale version to add to my collection of GT 3 cars (just when I thought I was done buying cars...). This is the first "new" toy grade rc car I've seen in a while.
Just be aware that the 1:24 scale version doesn't have opening doors and the windows are blacked out (no interior detail). It is quite a bit cheaper though and it is still a nice model. There are several new cars coming out this year after a quiet period due to Covid.
Glad to hear new cars are coming! I do have a number of 1/14 scale cars with interiors (pretty much all the hypercars that available pre-covid) but we like to race. 1/14 scale cars are too big to race in my garage that's why I collect 1/24 scale 😀. The 1/14's have gotten maybe three uses and then became shelf queens. We made a few videos of the 1/24's with more footage that needs to be compiled into something. In one of the comments below there was a comment about not liking the 1/16 scale. I didn't either but picked up one by chance because it was cheap, and 12 cars later..... (there is a video of those). We love RC cars 😉!
@@markieh04 I keep thinking about buying some more 1:24 scale models but prefer the detail of the larger scales. The smaller ones are great for small spaces though and just as fast as the larger models.
@@markieh04 What are you planning to do? I am thinking about doing a Rastar semi-hobby grade conversion later this year but I will use one of the larger scale cars as a base (either 1:12, 1:14 or 1:16).
Yes, this one has some very nice details. It is also my first Rastar with a rechargeable battery pack instead of 'AA' batteries. I hoped it would be an advancement but from what I can tell, it makes the car slower because there is only space for a 4-cell battery pack (4.8V) instead of the usual 5-cells (6V).
@@hwroadbeasts Yes, those 'AA' batteries are a real pest. I have piles of them all around the house and never know which ones have charge left. I always try to use new batteries for each review so I can show the speed realistically. It would be ideal if they made the battery compartment slightly larger so that a 5-cell battery pack with its connector would fit in the space.
Nice addition to your collection. I noticed that your GT2 RS has 'PORSCHE' across the upper windshield. My GT2 RS does not. I wonder if something changed while Rastar was producing models.
How strange! As it is officially licensed, I see no issues with having the word "Porsche" there (although this is the only handset I have that uses the Rastar logo on the centre cap rather than the car brand logo or name). Also, we must both have early production examples of this model as I bought mine quite a few months ago as soon as the first shipments arrived from China. With regard to new releases, I see that Rastar seems to be producing several models in 1:16 scale. Not sure why this would be and I'm not especially a fan of that scale. However, there is a new Countach LPI 800-4 that I'm sure will be popular.
What do you think about the speed of my Porsche in the video? This is my first rechargeable battery pack car and to me, it doesn't feel as fast as the 'AA' battery versions. 4.8V versus 6V must have a small impact on acceleration and top speed.
@@BlackSeaRC That is part of why I find it so fascinating. I assume that at some point in production, someone must have noticed the missing windshield detail. I saw a few models that will be released in 1:16 scale, which is very disappointing, to say the least. I was really looking forward to the Sport Classic. I probably would have acquired the 296 GTS as well. I just hope this will not be a continued trend going forward.
@@BlackSeaRCI haven't driven a stock car in a while, at least not outside in space, so I'm not sure. It looked like it was moving. I do remember changing from 1.5V AAs to 1.2V rechargeable AAs in my stock cars, and they definitely felt slower. So, I wouldn't be surprised if the battery pack cars are slightly less punchy.
@@AndWeRollin The scales have been getting ever more random over the last few years. At least 1:14 scale matched some of the heavy trucks produced by companies such as Tamiya. 1:16 is rather an odd in-between scale. Maybe it is a cost saving measure as none of the 1:16 models seem to have opening doors. I think that people who have a collection of cars would at least like all the models to be the same scale for display purposes.
Top speed of the 1:14 scale Rastar RC cars is around 5-6mph (8-10kph). However, I have just bought some components to convert one of these cars to hobby grade electronics. My aim is to achieve a scale speed that matches the top speed of the real car, so something in the range 15-25kph.
@@hwroadbeasts After a quiet couple of years (no doubt there was a strong impact due to COVID), there are some great new products on the way. Got to get saving!
Typically, Rastar models come in large (1:14 scale) and small (1:24 scale) variants. This Porsche is available in both scales. The F1 cars come in 1:12 and 1:18 scale. The smaller versions (1:18, 1:24, etc) have a smaller battery compartment with space for 3x 'AA' batteries instead of 5x in the larger models. At present, the smaller scale vehicles are not available with a rechargeable battery pack.
Where you can buy usually depends upon your location. I am lucky to have a large toy store local to me that stocks Rastar products. If you are not so lucky and have to buy online, then I would check sites such as AliExpress, Amazon, ebay, Desertcart, etc. Just be sure to check shipping costs and import taxes to your location.
It depends upon the requirements. If you are looking for something suitable for indoor driving or for a beginner, then it is an inexpensive way to get into the RC hobby. Furthermore, the realism is so good that quite a few people buy these for the bodies and then enjoy the challenge of upgrading them with hobby grade electronics. Rastar products are designed with an emphasis on scale realism and were never intended to be high performance machines.
That's a good price. For people living in Europe, USA, India, etc the prices in China look very attractive. Unfortunately, shipping costs and import taxes almost always turn the total cost into something much less attractive. With products of this type, I try to buy locally because the suppliers usually order in bulk and can get favourable shipping rates, but for more expensive hobby-grade RC cars, I try to order direct from China to get a better price.
@@KhetheloMkhonza-eu1by Not really, no. The tyres are rubber and grip quite well, even on smooth surfaces such as laminate flooring. Usually, drift cars have special tyres to make them suitable for drifting. I shall hopefully be adding a specialist drift car to my RC collection shortly. I have been thinking about it for a while and decided I wanted to try.
@@KhetheloMkhonza-eu1by That's a question that a lot of people want to know the answer to. Unfortunately, it is not a quick modification as it requires quite a few changes. Firstly, you would need a different motor. Then you should change the speed controller (electronic circuit board) and batteries. With these upgrades, you really need fully proportional control, so that requires an RC handset and receiver. I am about to undertake a Rastar upgrade project myself as so many people asked about it. I have bought all the components and I just have to select a model to modify. I purchased the most cost effective items as really it is not practical to spend a lot of money converting such an RC car. I have already reverse engineered a Rastar car to see what is under the body. See this link for details: ruclips.net/video/TA5TsLBzEbE/видео.html With my upgrade, I am hoping to increase the top speed from around 8-10kph to maybe 25-30kph. I am also planning to modify the steering at the same time to give a full performance upgrade.
