That's the whole idea about film. It takes more skill which feels good. Shooting film is more organic. Very similar to vinyl records taking off again. High touch hobie. I like that I have to think about a shot more instead of blasting away on a digital camera and picking the best to keep. I just ordered all of the developing chemicals too! Thanks for video!
It's funny, I just seem to care more about my film shots. I feel like that extra second you spend to make it perfect, combined with the risk of missing the moment, and then the wait to see if it all comes together just makes them a little more emotional for me. Then pour a little nostalgia on top because I only have film shots of my childhood.
When you think about how much you pay for new lenses and digital camera bodies when people keep these film cameras for decades film is cheap. If you think of it like a subscription plan where you only pay for what you use it can be cheaper.
I am in the same boot.Just got a Nikon FE for the one reason that I just wanted to have it as a great piece of photography history, but I'm going to shoot a roll/month I guess. There is something special in film photos which is hard to represent in digital format. I also have a medium format camera which has been lying in the basement for decades. Ordered a few rolls for that one as well.
What I like about film is that I only take one shot at a time, not 10 and then spend 2 hours comparing them in Lightroom. Either the shot was good or not.
I did all my exams at my art school on this camera. I'm glad that the next generation is reaching for film equipment, maybe it will restore at least some of the producers' faith that it's worth continuing to create (maybe not new ones, but at least servicing old cameras) film and film cameras.
