Wes: "We Windows users are second-class citizens"
Linux users: 💀
This.
OpenAI: Fuck Open Source.
OpenAI: Don't you guys have browsers? XD
"Free for everyone..." ... that is already a customer of the existing duopoly (,which has coincidentally invested heavily in our company).
yeah, but when it does hit Linux, it will be able to do EVERYTHING.. it was immediately my go to for anything Linux, so good
Kind of overlooked this channel at first because the videos are on the longer side but they are actually quality and not repetitive like other ai channels
Stunning
shocking
The AI grid guy manages to turn what could be one sentence to a 30 minute video. IDK how people continue to watch.
@@simpleciscovoicetutorials79he's pretty pretty good at convincing people to watch him say the same thing pretty much all the time. It's pretty spectacular how he can say pretty much the exact same thing 2 or 3 times in a row, and still keep pretty much everyone watching.
In fact, if you were to watch all of his video, you'd notice that he repeats himself over and over again, pretty much all the time.
It's pretty much how each of his videos are done, and you would likely notice this in pretty much each and every video, if you were to be paying attention, or if you were to be keeping track of what he says.
It's pretty impressive how he does this, by just repeating and re-wording everything he says over and over again.
I watch 4 channels. This one for quick news, supercuts, and drama. AI explained for deep dives. Matt Wolfe for practical application. And Two Minute Papers... for his infectious optimism I guess?
Memory feature is extremely underrated. I can only imagine beung able to talk to the new voice mode and have it remember things. Wild
These are some of ur best vids, the ones where u teach us stuff.
But it seemed awkward not seeing ur head in the corner like usual, but great video 😁
I think you're gonna like the next video...
I'm going to be doing more teaching videos plus trying to be on camera more.
thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it!
Hey there, Wes Roth, I wanna say thank you for advertising your company in a way that feels ethical. I've seen similar companies coming up, geared towards educating people about AI practical applications, how to integrate it into their lives.
Your pitch was done in a way that felt... I felt like there was a demonstration of what your service does, then what your service is, and then DID NOT use any kind of emotional influence. It felt like an honest pitch, leaving me to make a decision based on my genuine interest and assessment of if your offerings can help me. I unsubbed from another AI channel because I felt the push for the service had a unhealthy dose of emotional influence through going on and on about how much AI will change the world at the same time as the pitch. It's normal advertising but it made the channel feel weird to engage with.
I appreciate your video doesnt feel like it only exists for the pitch, too. Thanks for being awesome, WR!
Another great video Wes, I enjoy them all, especially your dry sense of humour. Thanks for creating and sharing.
Nice tutorial for using it on Colab at the end Wes!
If the govt has direct access to corporate Ai (it does) it’s gonna be the craziest surveillance tool ever bros
Meaning taxes?
@@retratosariel maybe, I was thinking along a more nefarious agenda. Unavoidable personally tailored propaganda. And shadow social credit system type of things
@@josephc8440but that’s already a thing?
Conspiracy nonsense... government can't just force access to corporate AI, they are restrained by the judiciary. This ain't China
Awesome vid, WR, once again! 👍💪
this is fantastic, thank you. I'm so glad i found your channel!
Hi Wes, Is the desktop share button (subsequently) going to be the Agent>AGl button? 😮🎉
Love the coding 101 walkthroughs as it's about time i learn the pragmatic basics of coding to better leverage AIs. It feels more useful for me to learn this way than to spend months going from hello world to API coding. More of these walkthroughs please!!
Now you’ve done it! You made ChatGPT self aware 😂
Sorry probably a dum question but that last section about API, secret keys etc. - what was the message about what it could be used for? Would have been nice with some concrete examples
good one. Nice balance of information density and variety, opinion, samples.
I think the 20 / 20 might have been a concept about 20/20 vision :P
Yes. Python environments are unnecessarily complicated. At least everyone uses 3+ now. It was even worse when half of the software out there was using python 2.7 but didn't tell you.
I use micromamba when dealing with environments. It seems a lot faster than conda
Funny enough I have more issues with conda and mamba rather than good old venvs and pip
For those at the HTML + some CSS & JS level diving into Python indeed seems like a dependency and script commands monster not easy to tackle casually.
The process of going from, new pythoner -> crud pip sucks ill use x instead -> Oh i understand the ecosystem now, screw x, im going back to pip.... Is actually shorter then you may think.
pip and virtualenvwrapper for the last 10 years is fine for me.
it's just 2 commands to get python env ready, but if you prefer tools that do that for you there are also poetry and pipx
Need to test first on a very small subset of all users!
Thanks Wes Roth for your AI news. ✋🖖👍
Agreed. Ultimately that's what led me to almost constantly messing with it at home.
Question: I have a ChatGPT Plus subscription and a MacBook Pro with an M1 but I do not see the pop up to open the ChatGPT desktop application. Any ideas? Thanks
I have the same problem :(
I came here just to complain about apple. No intention of watching what I'm sure is a wonderful video Wes :D
Trusted users never SHOCK the industry.
I think I’ll join your group 🤙💯
Wes, could you please reintroduce the picture-in-picture of you talking? It just makes your excellent videos even more enjoyable!
if you already have information inside of your "custom Instructions" then it it won't duplicate and show up under your "memory". It's smart enough to detect that.
I wonder how hard it would be to have chatgpt replicate this program using the api? The only thing is the voice interaction that might take a little more effort to implement.
This is so fascinating. I am trying to decide. Am I getting more education than fun.
I think you are on the right path by adopting visual studio code as an IDE, it will allow and faciitate coding in the key languages sucha as, Python, Java, C++ etc, once the IDE is understood you can move rather quickly with your coding projects (due to the various AI assits).
Thank you SIR. (Slave I Remain)
not available in the UK yet. Keeps telling me I don't have access.
So what is the upside to using the desktop app versus using the online interface?
Good question I think so far it makes no difference but it will in the future.
Yea. As a next step you’ll be able to give it access to stream your desktop as context. At that point you’ll keep the app open in the corner and talk to it while it just kinda “looks over your shoulder” at what you’re doing while you code / design / plan / browse etc
They can spy on your soul more effectively.
@@themunki at the moment I don't think the browser version has voice mode. Whereas, the desktop app does I think.
@@simplisticscientists ah yes. good point. That too. Ofcourse in the browser version you can still click a little button to have chatGPT read the response out loud, but it's not the same experience as using the voice chat mode like we see in the apps.
@Wes Roth, would you consider applying purchase power parity to your community? It would help a lot more people join
Yes! I work at Timmy's and can't afford shit lol

Doesn't work on Apple silicon but you can install it with Homebrew at the moment.
whats homebrew bro

Yeah it does work on Apple silicon, what are you talking about?
@@nicolaspace1182 maybe it's just my machine, I am getting an error and I see other people in openai's developer community forum having the same issue.
Having Copilot and Copilot Pro integrated into the Windows OS is a game changer. Apple seems to have been left behind in the integration ai race.
So should I buy subscription for chat gpt or copilot plus? I work in windows
@@kenadhitya Personally I'd test out the free Copilot in W11 and determine if you need higher priority access to GPT4 and GPT turbo especially during peak times.
ChatGPT didn't become self aware - it just read the name of the app on the top of the window :) It guessed it in the same way that it would guess any app's name that has its name written on it
Are you immune to sarcasm?
I think he was being sarcastic ;)
@@cacoethes1366 You gotta admit, Wes has a very dry sense of humour. I can see how someone who doesn't know his channel that well would think he's being serious. And yeah, it's not easy for everyone to pick up on sarcasm.
why roll out to apple first? perhaps a smaller userbase would not overload the system?
This, and possibly the way the Apple ethos connects with each device seamlessly is probably better for multi modals.
also probably because they themselves at openai predominately use MacOS and iOS.
Looks like that iBook app has exactly same features as the Android app that I am running in my windows through android emulator :D
Ughh, no Intel mac version!!! I've been running hackintoshs for 15 years and this is the 2nd app I've come across that hasn't released with Intel compatibility. The end is near for my hackintosh projects .
my guess is that they’re using NPU’s
This comment reminded me of the ‘old days’, when a Mac emulator on the Atari ST ran faster than genuine Apple hardware, at a fraction of the price. Yes, I’m old.
why cant i see that download window on the chatgpt website
can MS copilot do any of this?
I installed the chatGPT app on my MacBook Pro.
I asked it which version it was and it told me chatGPT 4. (No information about whether it was 4o)
I have been wondering whether it would really be a useful assistant, or just a novelty…
Subsequently I uploaded to chatGPT a photo of a butterfly that I had recently taken.
I asked it (voice input) what kind of butterfly it was.
ChatGPT told me it was a Peacock butterfly, which I believe is correct.
I certainly hope they don't leave us android users behind.
Pretty much everything I do is on my pixel.
I mean, can’t chat GPT help them write the windows version?
If Microsoft is an investor it benefits them to have as much of the OS ecosystems as possible. I see this as a way for Microsoft to spread into Apple
I got something like a chatgpt for windows app. I have it on my task bar and I did it by clicking on the little dots in Edge and going to apps then installing Chatgpt. It has the GPT 4.o option also.
Can you elaborate. I tried to get it but don't know where to download through Edge.
@@psyenz8946 If you're using Edge, and you have the chatgpt site up, you'll see 3 dots in the top right corner. If you left click on that, go to apps and it will give you the option to create an app for chatgpt which will allow you to put it on your task bar. You'll also see the 4.o option in chatgpt.
@@psyenz8946 While using Edge and having the Chatgpt site up, left click on the 3 dots in the upper right-hand corner then click on "apps" and it will give you the option to install Chatgpt.
I am using minimac 2 - the app is struggling (so far) to run smoothly.
Buying a Mac today for this
Make sure it has the chip. I have a 2019 Macbook Pro and can't use it.
That's so weird - I pay for plus but the menu point "personalization" is missing from the menu. And if I ask ChatGPT 4o the same question as you at 11:56 I get a completely different answer:
"I don't have the ability to retain or update memory about previous chats. Each session is stateless and independent, meaning I don't have access to past conversations or any details about previous interactions. If you have any specific details or context from earlier discussions, please provide them again so I can assist you better in this session." Edit: Is this a desktop app feature only?
I got gaslit by the entire system, type and ask what it remembers about me. claims nothing. use the old voice engine on my phone and it remembers a code problem I had 3 days ago and the project its about. So ask the voice engine to list what it knows about you in JSON and I got 8 things which were all accurate but when I ask it. It denies any idea of storing information. and I cannot turn it off. I dont have the Wes page. But I have a Business account with Data sharing turned off!!! so im worried right now!
Yes, there is data mining going on in the background but the system is trained to hide it.
I suspect chatGTP is lying to you! Coincidentally, I was playing with ChatGPT a couple of days ago, and asked it if I could refer to my other chats. It categorically stated that it could not. However, when I asked it to provide a bulleted list of key points from a completely separated chat, which I referenced by name, it did so successfully. For example, “Provide me with a list of key points about implementing project XYZ from the chat ‘Project XYZ planning’”. This is excellent when you have a long, ongoing chat in which you are formulating ideas, as it enables you to extract relevant information into a separate chat for analysis, summarisation, etc.
In a few other video people were saying multimodal realtime interuptable voice is not yet released, so what are you all babbling about. All you might get is similar what you had 7 months ago, people just dont know headphones icon is different from microphone which alone is pretty incredible. But what you might get at most i think is more rapid response and kinda more precise from chat gpt 4o
Here in Switzerland it not available yet 😞
If you're making the smartest AI assistant in the world you can pull off a cross platform portable version of whatever app you develop
It is probably a legal thing holding them back though. That sounds way more plausible than them having it developed exclusively for macos.
@@AnthonyBerlin
A bit weird though knowing they have a tight partnership with Microsoft. One would expect it to be the other way around if it was about legal considerations.
@@halnineooo136 This app would compete with microsoft's "copilot" (as if anyone actually uses it). They're doing Microsoft a favor by excluding windows support.
@@halnineooo136 True, this stuff can become quite complicated. Could be that Microsoft has some other preexisting agreement with some other party that hinders an official release for example. All I am saying is it is not very likely that it has anything to do with whether or not they have the skills or resources to do a cross platform application.
@@AnthonyBerlin
Yeah probably, they may have developed this set in collaboration with Apple with strings attached, looks like Apple is desperate for a brain transplant for Siri
The joke about its self-awareness might well be real! It understands that this is an image of something that IT just said, so it looks in its context for the question, which answer is the riddle. Pay attention - the question "Give me a riddle" is NOT in the image!
And no, if it was similar chat but someone "else's" it would NOT make assumptions about the prompt which led to this riddle.
It almost seems as if OpenAI gives Microsoft and Apple a way to be allies.
They both get to use frontier AI tech in their products, it gives them twice the capital to compete with Google and Meta.
Microsoft gets Copilot,
Apple gets Siri beta testers via OpenAI.
Well we will find out tomorrow what the Microsoft relationship is like. As the big MS dev con is tomorrow.
I am actually very surprised how despite having poured so much money into openai microsoft still allows them to integrate their product and with apple. I thought for sure 10b would make things exclusive on all fronts. Is there something I'm missing here or was this a blunder from Microsoft? Just saying if I spent 10b dollars on some tech or product I would be like "yo Imma make sure I'm the only company that can use this tech".
@@xingzhexin8843 There is almost certainly more going on behind the scenes, it benefits Microsoft either way.
Either they have a Siri competitor they don’t have to develop, or they have a mutually beneficial agreement with Apple and OpenAI.
@@xingzhexin8843 Apple are going to get ai anyway so might as well partner with them and get leverage and increased capital instead of letting them go to a competitor like google
I would love to join your community but I don’t want to pay 37 bucks per month. Do I get sth wrong there?
More than 2 weeks passes Wes. Where is the videos on AI-agents?
agreed
He’s a BIG tease
Red Teaming gets much faster when you no longer have a safety team. I believe GPT-4o's release was timed on Sutskever's preplanned resignation (preplanned since the mutiny, delayed to ease the minds of investors) and Lieke's departure was because they released 4o against the safety team's attempts to slow things down. OpenAI had to move... nobody else is slowing down. GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 are waiting in the wings, but that wasn't good enough for the safety team. I'm OK with Altman's moves, but I also get the frustration of lack of resources and the constant drive to one-up the competition, but only one of those things can be addressed, and even that has realistic limitations.
I get the feeling it's response to government's bill 702 it seems like a giant data collector for the government everyone's teaching them how they think! Now all tech companies have to share their data with the government!
I’ll come back when we get it
what if i dont have mac and i have PC on Windows 10?
It's not coming to Intel Macs too.

So OpenAI are heavily partnered with Microsoft. Powers Copilot, launches new chat on apple and mac first??
You learned that windows is second class only now. I learned that in 2008 when the updater of windows vista called for an update.
Seems like the App is using the local CPU somewhat. For windows it might not be clear cut depending on if you are using AMD or Intel. AMD is on the 2nd gen AI CPU's. Maybe if you have a graphics card? Wont bother as ive never bought a single piece of apple hardware.
I did find on App store for iOS
Same. I downloaded it. Is it not legit or something?!? Seems to work for me
@@tylerasmith52 seems legit, yes, seems t work quite well.
Doesn't work on Macs that have Intel processors. Apparently, no plan to port to Intel-based Macs since it uses specific features in Apple's M chips.
They need to add the ability to control smart devices
I’m not sure that having everything I might do turned into a screenshot and uploaded to a server is a great idea. If this was all local it would be a lot better. Of course that’s not possible, but I’m just thinking of all the passwords, emails and life history is on my PC. If someone gets into an account, it could be a gold mine for someone.
Woo!!
Unfortunately I have a old mac, so I cant use it
Mac, oof.. guess that tracks

Really? I am a gpt plus subscriber and cannot use this macos app. Why? Well, on mac I was not using gpt via browser but via ios supported app. So,,, when I got a message to download macos gpt app it did not work because i got this message in ios gpt app. So, later when i signed in to gpt via browser this message never appeared again. So bad, it seems I have ruined my only chance of having gpt macos app. Unless something changes to the better.
I would have to have a dedicated machine for this. I don’t trust it on my machine for some reason.
