Philosopher, political activist, social critic, actor, public intellectual & grandson of Baptist minister Cornell West, spoke today at the COGIC Men's Day service today! He reminded the men of the Church of God in Christ to never forget their history, the foundation C.H. Mason laid, but also to not lose hope for the future of where Black America is heading. He also gave a few history nuggets!

I’m GOGIC and Glad to see the church opening space to hear voices like Dr. West…folks on here condemning and criticizing clearly didn’t hear the entire speech. Calling people to operate and uphold an ethic of love is something we need to hear more often.

I'm 56 and I'm COGIC raised. This is and was a great mistake not because of the man's past or present but for the stance of which West allies himself with. Remember when the late great G. E. Patterson instructed the cogic men not to attend the Million Man March? It wasn't that the event didn't have merit, it was that the leader of the movement stance on Jesus and race and other divisive rhetoric was against what we teach as believers of the bible. This should have never happened and I'm so disappointed in our leaders. No one consulted God in this I can assure you!

My opinion, no problem with Cornel West sitting with the congregation to learn the meaning of holiness and righteousness, but I wouldn't allow him to speak.
That’s the thing the scripture tells you to examine by their fruit that means to judge righteously. The scripture even tells us to separate and point people out so that they’ll be ashamed and also so that the church will know what’s right and wrong. You need to be taught.

I’m new to COGIC and truthfully I was surprised to see Mr West speaking; I say this not because of a cult mentality but because of his stand on so many issues that the Bible teaches against, for example he’s a major supporter of abortion etc so it’s definitely a conflict. So it’s not about Mr West it’s about the folks who are making the decisions on Speakers.

At the end of the day, this man has publicly stated that he is a follower of Jesus Christ and is saved by blood of Jesus. Anyone that believes in him shall be saved. That’s Bible! John 3:16. Is he perfect? No. Does he say the right stuff all the time? Far from it. But he is a brother in Christ. Y’all who condemn him are like the Pharisees on the scripture. So religious, so traditional, that you don’t believe in change. You don’t believe GOD will raise up new people. People that won’t be understood. Elijah wasn’t understood. Jonah wasn’t understood. To be in Christ we must believe the gospel, repent of our sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and get filled with the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:37-38),(Acts 19:2-6). The Baptist church for the most part does not believe in the infilling of the Holy Ghost. This means that they are not in Christ (Romans 8:9-10),(1 Corinthians 12:13). The Bible also says that he who says that he knows Christ and keep not his commandments is a liar.
