Just as background, she is Norwegian, taught herself to sing and play piano (although she took dance lessons while still in school), and started writing music when she was about 6 years old and lyrics (in English) when she was about 11. Aurora Aksnes was discovered accidentally when a high school classmate posted a video on facebook (without her permission) taken of her performing a song at a high school talent show that went viral locally. This, combined with another another friend’s posting of a recording she had made for her parents (so she wouldn’t have to perform in front of them because of stage fright) attracted an invitation from a local management company. She refused at first, but her mother convinced her to at least try. She writes, produces and performs her own music (with some long-time collaborators) and signed with that management company in Norway in 2013. AURORA subsequently signed with 3 record labels and began touring locally when she was 17. Since then she has completed three world tours, released 4 albums, and is now 27. Her voice is known to many as the voice of the wind calling out in the animated movie Frozen 2, and her ambient vocals are included throughout the Hans Zimmer score for the PBS/BBC series Frozen Planet 2. Her music has been featured in a number of TV shows and video game soundtracks as well.
The first major breakthrough for her was the music video made for “Runaway” (written at age 11) that appeared on her first album. She was 18 when they filmed it near her childhood home in Norway. (Katy Perry tweeted about her when she saw this video which raised AURORA’s profile dramatically at the time. This video was also the impetus for young Billie Eilish to pursue her own musical career).
Aurora’s live performances are uniformly amazing and you have a lot of wonderful viewing ahead of you. Having said that, she is also no slouch when it comes to official music videos, which are beautiful and artistic (and she generally co-directs them). I’d suggest checking out the official videos of “Running With The Wolves” and “The Seed” first and then her two latest releases “Your Blood” and “Conflict of the Mind”.

She also does amazing covers- two of the best are an NRK performance of David Bowie’s “Life On Mars” (accompanying herself on a Fender Rhodes electric piano) and her cover of Imagine Dragons’ “Believer” (which was a radio show challenge to create and perform a cover in under an hour. She did not know the song or the band but likes dragons which is why she chose it.)

AURORA is a self-taught piano player and singer. She is from norway, and is 27 soon 28 years old and she started making melodies when she was 6 years old . The words came when she was 9 or 11 years old. She made runaway when she was 11years old. She is a multi talent. She can paint, dance, and make meaningful music. The newer songs are very different from what we have seen of her, i recommend you to check out her older stuff first. She is in a new area, but she still sounds like her. You have to check out her live performances the music feels even better live because you see the art being made on the stage, and it will blow your mind everytime!! its a bit hard to give recommendations because all of her songs and live performances are beautiful but i recommend her cop26 concert she sings alot of her songs that is popular and its mostly acoustic. In that way, you also get to see her speak to the crowd and understand her as an artist and what she stands for.
Aurora doesn't write about herself. She always says the music is bigger than her, and she has a longer vision about what music is and what it could do for us, it can make you dance, cry or be sad or happy. She have made a lot of songs and realised them many years after because she is realising them when she thinks the world needs it the most.
Aurora is the most authentic person I think you will see in the music industry. She writes all of her songs mostly all alone. She produces them on her own terms and make her musicvideos too. Aurora herself is art. She is also very strict when it comes to her band and the people she works with she said, "I need people that don't look at the notes while playing."
When she writes music, she has something to say. It has become more "political" she sings about the right to love, racism and the most important to her is mother earth as she call the world. She was mostly in the forest when she was a child all the time,alone, and she still loves it.. Her parents used a big cow bell to call her in to dinner. If you see cop26, you will understand it.
When she was little, she didn't like to be with a lot of people, and she only got social media because she became an artist. She dont care about fame and has a totally other view on success than others. Us from Norway is obviously so proud of her and we think its fun thats so many can see her talent and help others to feel.she iis having a norwegian tour and people from 48 countries are coming to see her.
She is just pure and so authentic. ❤

She was 18 in this video and is 27 now (28 in June 2024).
TikTok did not exist when this video was released in Feb 2015, but in March 2021 when the song was 6 years old, it went viral due to being used in a TikTok meme, which propelled it to Top20 world wide on Spotify.
She is a pretty famous artist now, but many fans would agree, that she is not as famous as her talent would suggest. She is not getting 600M+ views on her other videos, only on Runaway because of the meme. But she is getting like 12M monthly streams on the streaming services and has 5.5M subscribers on YT and 3.1M on IG and 4.9M on TikTok.
She writes all her music and lyrics and has released 3 albums and 2 EPs so far, and the 4th album is coming very soon within 1-6 months probably.
Runaway is from her first album "All My Demons Greeting Me As A Friend", while "The Gods We Can Touch" is her latest album from January 2022. She is experimenting with many different genres and sounds on that album, almost each song is different.

Aurora has been touring the world since around age 17 or 18 and is currently working on Album number 4, hopefully to be released soon. Some facts about the Runaway Music Video:
It was shot (as far as we know) during January 31 to February 2, 2015. She was 18 at this time. She wrote Runaway at the age of 11-12 and finalized it at the age of 14 (for a school project, as she mentioned in an interview).
The parts, where she wears the 'furry' top (it's actually sheep wool) are shot at the west coast of the Drange peninsula, less than a mile away from her parents house.
The parts in the forest were shot in the same forest where she played as a kid very close to her parents house.
The parts, in which she wears a thin white cardigan and with some trees in the near background and the island of Lysøya in the background, are shot actually in the backyard of her parents house in Drange (Norway).

Great guys! You have stumble upon a real goldmine. She is the Queen of expression, emotions and haunting voice. Her music could be very quirky sometimes but her lyrics is ALWAYS important and thinkworthy. She is specialist to go under the big mainstream radar and we Warriors and weirdos loving her with all our heart. Nearly hundred of her song is recorded and several more is unreleased (and nearly all om them is crazy good) she have done music for games and tv-shows. So there is LOT´s of goldmusic here. Her live perfromances is the best generally but her original videos is so artistic so you have to see them too. I think you should look att the haunted and otherwortlhy 5,4,3,2,1 Murder song live in Nobel peace prize concert. That one is so special for us.

Great reaction. Her Runaway music video has that many views because it is years old, but, she is gaining recognition, she is extremely "multi talented", authentic and wonderfully weird. Her fan base is called Warriors and Weirdos because she wants to remind everyone to be a Warrior when life is hard, to never give up and weirdos because she embraces the weird in herself and to let everyone know it is okay to be unique and weird.

Great reaction fellas! I highly recommend going down the Aurora rabbit hole. Just be warned, she has a huge data base of songs. I haven't heard a bad one yet! Start around the time of this song, 2015 or so. Recommendations: The River, Queendom, Murder song (Live at 2015 Nobel peace prize concert), Running with the Wolves, and The Seed for starters.
