91 - The Truth Behind Why Acts 29 Removed Our Church

  • Опубликовано: 23 авг 2024
  • In early 2023, Acts 29 removed our church from the network without warning. We had been members in good standing in Acts 29 for 12 years. There was no indication that this action would be taken against our church. It was a unilateral decision made by the board of the network. There is no process of appeal.
    In this episode, Matt Patrick and I share not just our experience in being removed from the network but also the audio of the phone call where they kicked our church out. We felt burdened to release this audio as lies have been told to prospective Acts 29 churches regarding our removal. Given the state of the network, we feel it is our responsibility to provide transparency to our brothers currently pastoring Acts 29 affiliated churches about the precarious position in which their fellowship rests.

    I have attended 2 Acts 29 churches in my life. They will act and tell you to your face that they love critiques and welcome criticisms. They'll even invite you to church meetings to placate you or make you feel like you have a part in the church. A voice. You never do, and it's so frustrating watching them crash and burn when they could have just listened. There are too many prideful, hard headed gen x'ers in Acts 29. I am so happy to be out of these manipulative conversations.

    Acts 29 started well, but has seemingly imploded. We had a great Acts 29 church in Houston before moving 8 years ago, but apparently, they left the network. We joined one in Charlotte that had great theology . . . until they didn't (the pastor inexplicably went full Bill Johnson/Bethel, so we had to leave). Another local Acts 29 church was already fully "woke" 8 years ago. And a third folded up shop last year. Sad to see they did a disservice to this church.

    In the secular world, to remove someone from employment, there must be documented evidence. Act 29 and all church leadership should learn from this. We can’t just say, this is how we feel, for all relationships involved, there must be direct collection of evidence.

If I wanted a church that was woke and "culturally relevant" I would sign up for the Joel Ostend book club. Screw Acts 29, TGC and all the clones. Find a local church unattached from higher influences (that always go woke.) Find a church that is unimpressed with cultural trends and preaches the one true Gospel of Jesus.

    This was very difficult to listen to with church leadership making completely unsubstantiated claims evidenced by the number of times the word “feel” was used during the conversation. They also misleadingly used the word “public” criticism multiple times with no actual evidence of it happening. It’s self evident that this was an emotional decision and not well-reasoned or thought out. I used to think highly of the Acts 29 network, but not anymore if this is how the leadership handles tension and difficult situations.

    What's tragic about church "leadership" its almost like they have zero interest in reconciliation.
    We are to be minister's of reconciliation AND have more grace for fellow believers, even than sinners. We are to have a special love and forgiveness for fellow believers and this has not been modeled by Acts 29 or SBC.
    If our church leaders refuse to model reconciliation, the organizations have the authority in themselves and are above accountability, they are effectively acting like Cults.
    The fact you as pastors said this is "wrong", "sinful", should have been taken seriously by them as a real charge (with 2 witnesses) that they have no problem completely ignoring. This is toxic leadership. This is why nominal believers are deconstructing.
    No accountability, no transparency, and effeminate leadership more interested in pleasing people more than God.

The same type of effeminate communication style came from them (I think that's a requirement to being a good culture fit, but they think it's called "grace" or "compassion"). In the end, the claims never materialized, but membership revoked. Still married to the same woman today, but we moved far away from everything Chandler. Good timing too, because then the news of his inappropriate conduct dropped.

Doug gets a jab in that they said something wrong, and was asked mulyiple times what he means and they other guy refused to let Doug actually respond. This whole invisible docket thing where the leadership met with no notice and made the decision to kick a church out without allowing any defense...that is wrong. Plus, how obsurd to kick them out while still concluding they weren't in sin, but more of a difference in "philosophy". This network seems to be a good group with shady leadership that now has all the financial and influence power.

    My wife and I left an Acts 29 church (Redeemer Modesto Ca. ) approx 3 years years ago. The church split over it going WOKE. The senior pastor then left the church soon after moving to that theological position and that left church in a strained financial state. Before that the Redemption Ministry was found to be spiritually abusive and it ended. I found out right after that the spiritual abuse issues had been a problem in that particular ministry since 2014 in the larger network.
    This situation sounds very familiar to those of us that left that Modesto A29 church.
    When a church, network or denomination goes cultic it makes you the problem for pointing out any problem, it makes itself we alone are right, if you disagree with something you're disagreeing with God, control of thinking and expression are tantamount, what is rational is made irrational but it thinks itself rational (that is crazy making), dictatorial, arbitrary and exclusive judgements are made, it is blind to how it is toxic and/or spiritually abusive, etc. (The short list)
    An excellent expose' and discussion. Thank you.

    Men of integrity should know that if you're going to accuse people of doing something, you have specific examples. Here, they make an accusation -- publicly criticize the network -- and are repeatedly challenged to give even one example; they cannot do it but continue to make the accusation. The most charitable interpretation is that they don't understand the meaning of "public," somehow thinking it's anything more than one-on-one speaking. The reasonable interpretation is that they are bearing false witness.

    This is how todays leadership works across corporations (secular or religious).
    "You know what you have done". Leadership refuses to give details. Natural reaction is to over explain that "I am not what you said". Then leadership uses what you provide against you and continue to accuse you did the "wrong thing". Perhaps y'all are not aware, schism is the Protestant way. From Luther, the Calvin, to Zwingli and beyond. 40k+ denominations, each claiming Sola Scriptura and inspiration of the Holy Spirit, while maintaining irreconcilable differences and incompatible soteriologies, this doesn't just occur out of thin air.
    When I talked to The Village Church staff about schism, they said, tongue-in-cheek, they call that "campus spinoffs"

That should have been reviewed up front unless you are playing to a small group of Christians. And, if that is the case why not take your discussion off-line. I was interested to know the foundation for the podcast and it still hasn't come to light - even during the first 10 minutes of the phone call. Not well done at all.

    VERY maturely handled gentlemen! There’s no excuse for how poorly they handled themselves. I’m proud of your self control.
    Also, it seems a bit disingenuous that y’all act like you have no clue what’s going on. They absolutely should have given specific examples, but at the same time when the black guy said “you all know what we’re talking about,” I think he’s right that y’all all know you’ve been an annoyance to them for quite some time. By no means does this justify their actions, but it comes across as dishonest that y’all act as if you’ve never ruffled their feathers.
    For the record, I think A29 is so woke that I couldn’t even have been in their network, so y’all already showed much more grace and patience than me simply by remaining in A29 and seeking to change from within. But to act as if you had no idea they were so turned off by your pushback seems borderline dishonest.
    Again, very well handled overall and I’m happy to call you faithful brothers!

Hope you guys are doing better now, this really doesn't paint Acts 29 in a positive light. It very much sounds like a politically motivated decision, which is very worldly and petty. well brothers... at this point... there is a mantra that we should do well to remember... Get Woke, Go Broke... Acts 29, the moment they went woke, the lack of viable leaders, the reformed theology that mingled w/ feminist ideology and black liberation theology is where Acts 29 is. It's a woke movement governed by weak woke beta men who unfortunately are given way too much power and credence to be able to handle critique in a manner that is becoming of a leader. These men of Acts 29 are not leaders worth respecting. They have position. I've stopped associating w/ the likes of Chandler and Platt and those associated w/ Act 29 and the like because of their woke position as a theological stance. You guys would do well to simply disassociate and trust that God will carry The Well forward instead this woke joke organization. I'm sorry this happened but when you have woke leftists governing a prominent organization that fleeces the church than feeds it, expect it to burn down. I foresee it happening in the next few years.

    • @peterxuereb9884
      @peterxuereb9884 Год назад

      @CP-dk8oi No, I'm not ordained, like all Grifter protestant leaders are not ordained nor do I have Authority like any Grifter protestant leader has Authority I am just an everyday Catholic trying his best to live out his life in truth, in the way the bible says rather than in the way I think it say's which is the protestant way misinterpretation of scripture to suit their perversion.
      Because your issue is the same like any protestant, believing that Authority, is not something that is God given, but rather anyone can claim it for themselves, and presto they have Authority. In truth and therefore in reality that is not the case but rather a lie, something that only GRIFTERS would say and claim they have but they have none. I have provided you with several section's of scripture, that you and all protestant's refuse to accept, by your own action's. Truth does not change just because you want it to. The problem with protestantism, is that it reads the bible Subjectively in what it thinks it say's, instead of Objectively; as in what it actually says. My suggestion to you is to read these section of scripture as if it was Jesus Himself talking to you directly, in doing so with an ounce of humility, you will recognise what Jesus is saying.
      The first section John ch 5 has to do with the Authority that Jesus has which comes from God the Father, it is because of that Authority, that what Jesus said in John ch 6 that, unless people do what is said here then people won't be saved even if they are baptised.
      And in John 20 and Matthew 28 Jesus passes on that same Authority to the Apostles, that unless they believe again they will not be saved.
      I also add where it is emphasised and emplored of Peter Authority as the head of the Church in Luke 22 vrs 31,32.

      John ch 5 vrs 16-42
      16 It was because he did things like this on the Sabbath that the Jews began to harass Jesus.
      17 His answer to them was, 'My Father still goes on working, and I am at work, too.'
      18 But that only made the Jews even more intent on killing him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he spoke of God as his own Father and so made himself God's equal.
      19 To this Jesus replied: In all truth I tell you, by himself the Son can do nothing; he can do only what he sees the Father doing: and whatever the Father does the Son does too.
      20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything he himself does, and he will show him even greater things than these, works that will astonish you.
      21 Thus, as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so the Son gives life to anyone he chooses;
      22 for the Father judges no one; he has entrusted all judgement to the Son,
      23 so that all may honour the Son as they honour the Father. Whoever refuses honour to the Son refuses honour to the Father who sent him.
      24 In all truth I tell you, whoever listens to my words, and believes in the one who sent me, has eternal life; without being brought to judgement such a person has passed from death to life.
      25 In all truth I tell you, the hour is coming -- indeed it is already here -- when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and all who hear it will live.
      26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself;
      27 and, because he is the Son of man, has granted him power to give judgement.
      28 Do not be surprised at this, for the hour is coming when the dead will leave their graves at the sound of his voice:
      29 those who did good will come forth to life; and those who did evil will come forth to judgement.
      30 By myself I can do nothing; I can judge only as I am told to judge, and my judging is just, because I seek to do not my own will but the will of him who sent me.
      31 Were I to testify on my own behalf, my testimony would not be true;
      32 but there is another witness who speaks on my behalf, and I know that his testimony is true.
      33 You sent messengers to John, and he gave his testimony to the truth-
      34 not that I depend on human testimony; no, it is for your salvation that I mention it.
      35 John was a lamp lit and shining and for a time you were content to enjoy the light that he gave.
      36 But my testimony is greater than John's: the deeds my Father has given me to perform, these same deeds of mine testify that the Father has sent me.
      37 Besides, the Father who sent me bears witness to me himself. You have never heard his voice, you have never seen his shape,
      38 and his word finds no home in you because you do not believe in the one whom he has sent.
      39 You pore over the scriptures, believing that in them you can find eternal life; it is these scriptures that testify to me,
      40 and yet you refuse to come to me to receive life!
      41 Human glory means nothing to me.
      42 Besides, I know you too well: you have no love of God in you.
      ____________________________________
      John ch 6 vrs 44-59
      44 'No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who sent me, and I will raise that person up on the last day.
      45 It is written in the prophets: They will all be taught by God; everyone who has listened to the Father, and learnt from
      him, comes to me.
      46 Not that anybody has seen the Father, except him who has his being from God: he has seen the Father.
      47 In all truth I tell you, everyone who believes has eternal life.
      48 I am the bread of life.
      49 Your fathers ate manna in the desert and they are dead;
      50 but this is the bread which comes down from heaven, so that a person may eat it and not die.
      51 I am the living bread which has come down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, for the life of the world.'
      52 Then the Jews started arguing among themselves, 'How can this man give us his flesh to eat?'
      53 Jesus replied to them: In all truth I tell you, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
      54 Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood has eternal life, and I shall raise that person up on the last day.
      55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.
      56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I live in that person.
      57 As the living Father sent me and I draw life from the Father, so whoever eats me will also draw life from me.
      58 This is the bread which has come down from heaven; it is not like the bread our ancestors ate: they are dead, but anyone who eats this bread will live for ever.
      59 This is what he taught at Capernaum in the synagogue.

      18 So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my community. And the gates of the underworld can never overpower it.

      @CP-dk8oi All protestants do not teach and preach the truth because they have no Authority. There are people who are not Catholic priests who also preach and teach, but when they contradict Truth, then they are in error. Regarding Authority, one would have to be a priest to hear confessions; as Jesus said, "Who's sin's you forgive they are forgiven, who's sin's you retain they are retained. That Authority was given to the Apostles it was from and with the Apostles that the Catholic Church came to be. It is only a priest who can perform marriages it is not up to the state nor up to those who are protestant or of any faith since Jesus said marriage is a Sacrament and as a Sacrament only a priest has that Authority to conduct. Also, the last rites are a Sacrament of which only a Catholic priest has that Authority. My comments are all about Authority, which I have proven time and time again, of which only a Catholic priest has. Although preaching and teaching are a different matter, I put it to you that they are just as much essential, that the preaching and teaching must also be done by someone who apart from, having Authority must also know what they are talking about, protestants and protestantism have no knowledge of Truth, if they all did they would all preach and teach the same Truth, but they do not. If they did preach and teach the same truth there would not be 50000+ different protestant denominations, faiths, beliefs, religions, and theologies. Just like in a school, all teachers teach that 1+1=2 there would not be any different teaching and so the same with teaching and preaching about the bible, all would the same. It is not God who lies by having 50000+protestant denominations, faiths, beliefs, and religions. It is protestant and protestantism, "a man made construct," which lies, whereas the Catholic Church is One, therefore there is no contradiction. Therefore, it is God inspired. And the gates of hell will not over power it.
      Matthew 16 vrs 18
