Back when the lands were discovered, I believe they wanted to keep their discovery of the good land to themselves, so they named it "Iceland" and named the more inhospitible land, "Greenland" in order to fool those who wanted to follow.

Anyone know where I can watch the episode of I Shouldn't Be Alive with the couple that gets lost in the mountains in California (Mt. San Jacinto) and get trapped by a Gorge? It was about Brandon Day and Gina Allen. Wonder used to have all of the I Shouldn't Be Alive videos on their channel but they removed them a while ago. I can't find that particular episode anywhere on the internet to watch it again.
I remember that one. I wonder why they removed them. Also the one with the two chaps who went down somewhere in canada and had to make it to safety with a shitload of bears inbetween.
