I just got this a few weeks back from Amazon. Been playing the first couple of missions using PDF with my daughter over the most recent lockdown here in Ontario. She is loving it, and this deluxe book looks much better on our table for playing than my phone and tablet.
Such an excellent game really deserves the full treatment! I played through the first set of missions with a group of 3 lapsed gamers and we loved it - it got them all back into the hobby in various ways which is superb in itself. I bought the deluxe edition last year - we'll be trying the full campaign from that whenever it's safe to all meet up again. Looking forward to seeing your next set of adventures - I'm sure it'll inspire me to have a few solo games while I wait.
This has been on my radar since you started playing, but didn't realize the Deluxe was limited, so I missed it on Modiphius' website, but was able to snag one off Amazon. Great quality book, the art and the way the campaign notes numbers are laid out, reminds me of the old Lone Wolf rpg books from the 80s.
I always think it's funny when Ashe reviews something I've had for over a year. I've also bought some of the expansions which are mostly new scenarios/campaigns and some new rules, spells, etc... Great game! Totally worth your time, specially now that gaming stores are closed and most of us are playing at home.
Ah, that explains the gouging. There's supposedly a less fancy printing in the works last I looked, which will suffice for my needs. I'm with Ash - playing off a pdf for years doesn't bug me much, although I'd prefer a print edition.
Looks like a really fun game. Can you add in black powder armed characters (eg. a musketeer, duelist) like in Frostgrave? Is movement done by measuring inches or areas of control/squares? I have a friend that likes playing monsters. Are the the forces of Shadow able to be played as a faction, or would he need to play something like an orc-themed ranger faction? If there are three ranger factions at the table do they cooperate to reach the clues or are they competing and can slay one another in addition to the monsters?
Holy moly that looks dope as hell. I've got the older softback version from DriveThru but man I'm tempted by that buttery smooth vegan leather. Made with real vegans, hopefully.

@@GuerrillaMiniatureGames it was ordered from Asmodee through work, but apparently the order didn’t go anywhere, and they couldn’t manually send me one - by the time I’d got everything straightened out (months, due to lockdowns and people being furloughed), they were sold out!
Regret not grabbing this when it briefly appeared at the FLGS. They've since sold out and it seems unlikely that it'll be back anytime soon. Distribution has gone to hell over the last few years and most minis games and rules are almost impossible to get past their initial release if you want to shop local.
Is game shop distribution still locked into deals with comic distributors? That caused problems for many back in the 90s. Shops would tell me they couldn’t order something unless their distributor carried it, and special orders took months or never arrived
@@oldschoolfrp2326 There are many distributors in the US, but the largest one (Alliance) is under the same ownerships as Diamond Comics, so - sort of yes? Our FLGS uses Alliance and (at last count) four smaller distributors in an attempt to get everything they can in, as well as dealing direct with a number of companies (eg GW, WotC) and backing various crowdfunding efforts as a retailer. It's a hassle to juggle everything, and it's gotten worse since my own game retail days twenty years ago. Plus the pandemic has made all distributors risk averse when it comes to taking chances on stocking new products, as well as complicating things for many manufacturers.
I picked it up last year, and it's a very nice book indeed. Shame it was Modiphius though, since their editing is not very good. Plenty of typos, though none affecting gameplay, and a few parts where things were changed but not all instances. Overall good book though, great game, but the Infinity RPG books had the even worse issues and the Dishonored RPG was disappointing. Hopefully if they're doing a non-deluxe version it's fixed up. Also hopefully, they'll compile some of the other books into a printed compendium. Mostly I'm anticipating Stargrave though, so hopefully that can scratch the Rangers itch! :)
This game looks awesome but it seems like it takes a lot of miniatures to play. I don’t think I’d ever have time to paint up so many minis for the monsters.
If you don't already have a bunch of mini's, you could just as easily use tokens or standees also. The game doesn't care what you have on the table. :) It's also easy enough to play with whatever mini's you already have, just call a gnoll a (whatever you have) or whatever. Other than giant spiders being webby, none of it matters. I played the core scenarios reskinned with Infinity models, and gnolls were Shasvaasti.

Love it. Could be a great game to play with the wife, she doesn't like competitive games so a co-op might hold her attention.

You build a small collection for each mission and a lot tend to get used again, so while you may end up with lots of
Monsters it happens gradually!
