Askeladd was Thorfinn's father for longer than Thors was. I honestly felt that Thorfinn wasn't just mourning the end of his revenge, but he was seeing another father figure die right in front of him.
Yes. I think they didnt get that part.
@Kirishima Gang you have to understand that thorfinn in a way had a connection to Askeladd with the goal to revenge. He was holding on to this goal because he would be lost without it. And like a father figure Askeladd tought him the hard way to live like a viking. Thorfinns main focus was to kill him but as time passed it was like a safety net to live with them and subconsiously see Askeladd as a parent. His world was shaped by this adult. And since Askeladd dies,thorfinns world shattered. Not to spoil to much for the next season but pretty much shows thorfinns battle for his identity.

@Kirishima Gang its like you have a habit to wait until manga creator will writw you a whole 3 chapter flashback or inner monologue about how somebody feel. But if they say smth like 'yeah,he lived with his father 6 years,didnt learn much,but lived with other guy for more than 10 years,learned how to survive and felt bad about him die.' You prob cant figure out whats going on. Yeah its too hard to understand without 'So Thorfinn felr like his father died again and now on he has no purpose in life'. Try to get pieces together,and understand that as father Askeladd did more than Thors,even tho Thorfinn screaming that he hated him,but he is just a psycho teenager, he said it but he couldnt live without him.

Thorfinn was with Askeladd for more than 11 years and he was with his family for just only 6 years - not only that he wouldn't remember anything from first his early ages... like something from when he was 2-3-4 yro.... like it or not Askeladd has been his mentor all of this time, in case you didn't notice all of the progress Thorfinn had from beginning to end was thanks to Askeladd. If you carefully listen and read Thorfinn says... ''you.... are going to die?!?'' even he couldn't believe Askeladd is going to die ... he never thought that possibility even he always wanted to revenge his dad. I don't want to spoil anything from the Manga but Askeladd became Thorfinn's second father you'll understand what I mean in the coming arcs. And not last but not least Thorfinn had respect and care for Askeladd he was just too traumatised by the events he had been through and he just got only focused on revenge. If you carefully watch Thorfinn's reaction before entering the building you'll see he genuinely cares Askeladd ''what is this fool doing?'' -''get up and lets run'' ...
I love how many times they show that Thorkell is alot smarter and wise than he lets on. Really makes him one of the most like-able characters in the show
Usually in Anime, the brutes aren't smart. Clearly, this doesn't apply to Thorkell. He's the strongest man + he's wise and smart. He was definitely Thors best friend.
It's just that his love for war usually overshadows a lot of his reasoning.
He spent a lot of time with Thors . he was learning from him when they were together in war .

this anime is way too emotional and mature for yall... except wellz. i think he's the only one who has the capacity to handle deeper stories and complex characters, and he's not afraid to be sad when a sad thing happens. meanwhile, the other dudes laugh and joke over serious moments cuz they can't seem to get fully invested in the emotions. and it's literally painful to see rob falling asleep only to wake up and make some insulting ill-informed comment about the characters. i keep coming back to these reactions to see if they've improved, but wellz is still the only one who is bearable to watch

The most interesting thing about the ending was that thorfinn's life was just fixated on killing askeladd and after Askellad death, Thorfinn has no purpose,he never thought what would he do after that. He looked so lost and was the only one in the anime with no further direction.

Ya’ll failed to realize askkelad was like a father to thorfin, so him dying at the end was like losing his father all over again. Because he pretty much grew up with askkelad more than Thor’s.

When he fought Thor's remember he swore on his father Olaf to let them go if he won? He didn't respect that. But as soon as Thors was dying he said: "I swear on my ancestor Artorius". That proves he deeply respected and regretted killing Thor's cuz he was a true warrior. But he was also jealous cuz in him mind he said: If I were just a tad bit like him would I have been worthy to be king? He knew he was a scumbag which is why he never talked about being king even though he knew he should have.
@@jylgeekd2498 You'll also notice during his last battle with Thorfinn he lost his cool. Not cuz he lost his friend but because he was angry Thorfinn reminded him of nothing like Thors. Which is why he told him his story of why he was such a scumbag. Note also when Askeladd was dying it was the same scene as Thors death. Thorfinn saw Askeladd as a Sector and father figure and someone to throw his thirst for revenge at. This show has deep symbolism that is quiet unless you pay attention to details.

Thors said "A real warrior doesn't need a sword". The scene where Thorfinn let his "sword" go I think he finally realized what a real warrior is. And the final scene where they show different people, I think those are real warriors too like Thors and maybe they felt that a new real warrior was born.

I really liked how the adaptation of Vinland Saga was so good by itself without needing prior knowledge of the source material.
I dunno how thorfinn can recover from this. But if/when he does, we know for sure his character development is going be epic. His real father murdered in front of him, breaking his psyche and putting him on a path of rage and vengeance. Then killing innocent people just for a chance at dueling askelaad, as a child. Then watching his surrogate father murdered in front of him as well after all that’s happened...nobody can handle this at 15-16 years old. I can’t wait to see how he matures after this.
After Haikyu, you gotta watch Kuroko No Basket, Haikyu isnt the only anime that captures the raw intensity of sports comp, and the pure hypeness that is anime.. Kuroko, Hajime No Ippo, Ace of Diamond all are as fire as any great anime out there, just like Haikyu.

You probably already know this, but vinland is America. Before Columbus, the Vikings were the 1st who rediscovered what would be America, but were eventually chased out by the natives. Lief Erickson and Thorfinn were real people that found and built a settlement there

This was not good 😭 pat didn’t even understand the moment when thorfinn told askeladd to get up and duel him after he got stabbed by Canute, the scene was suppose to be emotional and show thorfinns dedication and desire to kill askeladd and avenge his father and with him dying by someone else’s hand he’d never be able to truly avenge his father, and pat just called him dum🤦🏾♂️
I think he entrusted Canute with that responsibility because Askelad saw in him what he saw in Thors, a true warrior. We, yourselves included, see warriors as those who assert their dominance on others. You all championed Askelad, Thors, Thorkel, Thorrfin, etc because they could kill with ease. Eventually Thors realized that’s not what makes a warrior a true warrior. Canute also realized this and wants to make a change. Thorkell realized Canute came to this realization when he looked in his eyes and that’s why he decided to follow him, he saw Thors in Canute.
